Lenin Statue in Tripura Teared Down Two Days After Lotus Blooms

658022-lenin-statues.jpg

Barely 48 hours after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the mandate in Tripura, a video emerged showing right-wing supporters tearing down a statue of Vladimir Lenin, a communist revolutionary, in Belonia town of the state.

The video shows the statue, located in the College Square of the town, being teared down by people wearing ‘Chalo Paltai’ T-shirts and chanting “Bharat mata ki jai.”

The national general secretary and northeast in-charge of the BJP, Ram Madhav, who is credited for the party’s win in Tripura, instead of condemning it, voiced his support towards the act of vandalism as a move towards change.

[h=1]'Make in India'…boost to India’s economics..[/h][h=1]Samsung to export India-made phones[/h]NEW DELHI: In a boost to the government’s ambitious ‘Make in India’ programme, Korean major Samsung plans to start export of India-made smartphones to Europe, Middle-East and Africa very soon. The company is more than doubling its production capacity to 12 million (1.2 crore) devices per month against nearly 5 million (50 lakh) at present.

The move comes at a time when Samsung faces one of its toughest periods in India after a high-pitched competitive onslaught by Chinese brands, particularly Xiaomi, in the mid-end of the market, and global rival Apple in the premium-end.

Samsung seems unfazed by the competitive pressures, and is rather preparing for a fresh wave of growth in India, which has emerged as the second-biggest smartphone market in the world (behind China). “We are going to boost our engagement in India further, and are making fresh investments of around Rs 5,000 crore to double the installed capacity. This should be completed by the end of this year,” a company source told TOI.

“Apart from displaying our seriousness when it comes to the Indian market, the move also highlights the capability of the factories here in producing high-quality products that meet global benchmarks,” the source said. Higher production numbers will also help realise further economies of scale, and thus boost price competitiveness.

[h=1]The risk factor is, in case of failure to repay the loan, the lender has the authority to repossess the property and recover the dues by selling it.[/h][h=1]Why loan against property can be risky[/h]
04home-insurance.jpg

Most borrowers of loans against property pin hopes on future cash flows from their business, but in case of failure to repay the loan, the lender can repossess the property and sell it.

Sanjay Kumar Singh finds out more.

Delinquencies in loan against property (LAP) are on the rise.

According to Crif Highmark, one of the country's four credit bureaus, the total LAP portfolio of banks, non-banking finance companies
(NBFCs) and housing finance companies (HFCs) stood at Rs 3.7 lakh crore in September 2017.

Non-performing assets had risen to 3.75 per cent in September 2017 from 2.98 per cent a year earlier.

Rating agency Crisil too expects delinquencies in the LAP segment for non-banking finance companies to rise by 70 basis points to 3.3 per cent by the end of this financial year.

Is there any provision in the constitution prohibiting a state from having its own flag?

Will the GOI approve this proposal of State’s having their own flag to start with Karnataka…??
[h=1]Karnataka flag unveiled: Yellow, white and red with state emblem in the middle[/h]
karnataka-flag.jpg

If adopted with clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Karnataka will be the second state after Kashmir to have an official state flag.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The colours selected represent different things – yellow symbolises forgiveness, white for peace and red for bravery.
Karnataka Cabinet approved the official state flag on Thursday – a tricolour of yellow, white and red sports the ‘ganda bherunda’ in the middle.

At around 10.30 am on Thursday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called a meeting of all the flag committee members and over 50 writers, experts and representatives of pro-Kannada organisations to discuss the issue. The committee formed to design the flag was headed by eminent Kannada scholar Hampa Nagarajaiah.

"The members of the committee explained to all the activists, writers and experts the significance of the flag and its meaning. After a unanimous decision, the design for the flag was agreed upon," SG Siddaramaiah, Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority, told TNM.

The flag design will now be sent to the Centre for its approval, following which it can be unfurled in state meetings.

Sources said the colours selected represented different things – yellow symbolises forgiveness, white for peace and red for bravery. The emblem will the printed in black and white on the central white stripe.

The state emblem of Karnataka is based on the kingdom of Mysore and is carried on all Government of Karnataka correspondence.

It has the Sarnath lion symbol which is popular across India, below which is a red shield with the ganda bherunda. On either side are two lion-elephants called ‘sharabha’, a mythological creature believed to be 8-legged possessing the powers of lions and elephants.

T330_210062_Untitled-3.jpg

[h=1]To assist earthquake-ravaged Nepal in its reconstruction effort, India today pledged to build 50,000 houses in its two worst hit districts.[/h]
India signed an agreement with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to build 50,000 homes for quake victims in Gorkha, the epicentre of 2015 earthquake, and the Nuwakot district.

Under the project, 26,912 home owners will be benefited in Gorkha and 23,088 homeowners in Nuwakot, according to Indian Embassy sources.

Socio-technical teams from UNDP and UNOPS will assist home owners to reconstruct their houses as per the Government of Nepal's earthquake resistant norms.

They will also guide them through the inspection and certification process at different stages of construction so as to enable them to have access to various tranches of housing grant.

Under the agreement, India will give USD 8.41 million to the UNOPS and USD 7.41 Million to the UNDP for the reconstruction of the 50,000 homes.

The massive earthquake in Nepal in April, 2015 created havoc in the Himalayan nation, killing over 10,000 people and injuring nearly 22,000 people. Gorkha and Nuwakot were the worst-hit districts.

Such heinous crimes and grave offences should be dealt with iron hand
[h=1]Rajasthan passes bill for death penalty for rape of girls aged 12 & below[/h]

rape1.jpg

Crime in India, 2016 revealed that 19,920 children were allegedly victims of child rape in 2016 alone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[h=2]Rajasthan becomes the second state to have such law after Madhya Pradesh.[/h]
Rajasthan on Friday approved a bill providing for the death penalty to those convicted of raping girls under 12 years of age. Madhya Pradesh has already cleared a bill with similar provisions in December last year while Haryana Cabinet this February gave its nod to a proposal to bring in such a legislation. Maharashtra and Karnataka are also considering the death penalty for child rapists.

State Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria introduced The Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill, 2018 on Friday in the assembly, which was passed in the House by a voice vote following a debate. The bill seeks to add section 376-AA in the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which will be defined as: “Punishment for rape on a woman up to twelve years of age. Whoever commits rape on a woman up to twelve years of age shall be punished with death, or rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than fourteen years but which may extend to imprisonment for life which shall mean imprisonment for the remainder of that person’s natural life, and shall also be liable to fine.”

Two amendments were made in the bill including that the convict cannot leave the prison for life even after completing 14 years of sentence.

[h=1]Clicking the best deal, possibly by a team which has more interest in the country’s advantage and progress…[/h][h=1]‘Your government has made a very good negotiation’ – French President Macron on Rafale deal by India[/h]
The Rafale deal has been a bone of contention and matter of debate as the Congress has been accusing the government of corruption.

The Congress president has been trying to politicise the issue and pin a non-existent scam on the PM. The Congress president has been accusing the Modi government of hiding information and helping his friends in the industry.

This failed attempt in creating a controversy was shot down as it was clearly shown that the UPA government itself had been denying information on the cost of the Rafale jet when it was in power.

The claim that Modi was helping Ambani and allegation that NDA rejected a cheaper offer from Eurofighter have been debunked in an earlier article. In spite of this, some Congressmen continue their allegations against the Modi government.

The latest figure who has come in defence of Modi government is none other than the French President Emmanuel Macron himself. In an interview to India Today, he has clarified that the deal was well negotiated and he remarked that intergovernmental agreements were normal in a democracy.

A 'thank you' note from a Chandigarh boy to the Supreme Court for settling all 23 cases filed by his parents against each other and granting them divorce by mutual consent moved judges, who made the hand-written note a part of their judgment.

“God always has something for you: A KEY for every problem, A LIGHT for every shadow, A RELIEF for every sorrow and A PLAN for every tomorrow,” wrote the 10-year-old boy and handed over to court after the seven-year-old matrimonial dispute between his parents was finally resolved.

The hand-written, colourful note by 10-year-old Tinu (name changed) displaying his great insight into life moved Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice Mohan M Shantanagoudar, who termed it “rich encomium paid to the Court” by Master Tinu.

The child present in court on March 5 was exuberantly happy and sought liberty to present a handmade card expressing his joy on the settlement of all the disputes and litigations between his mother and father and the Bench readily obliged him.

Well done anti-narcotics cops
[h=1]How Indian narco-cops got two Iranians convicted in the first meth lab bust in TN[/h]

TN_Meth_Bust_main.jpg

The duo set up a meth lab in Sivagangai in rural TN and officers were surprised to find how good the meth was

When Masoud Mosavi was first spotted by officers of the Narcotics Control Bureau at the Chennai airport in March 2013, he was carrying a book by Franz Kafka. His literary preferences were a giveaway and would later be useful for the anti-narcotics cops who interrogated him for producing and smuggling methamphetamine from a lab in rural Tamil Nadu.

A former Iranian army man who was an ambulance driver during the Iran-Iraq war through the 80s, Mosavi was a top operative of an Iranian syndicate which was attempting to build meth labs in India and exporting the expensive party drug to destinations in South-East Asia. Mosavi had already established meth labs in Bangkok and Indonesia. But when those labs were compromised, Mosavi’s syndicate chose South India as an operational base to produce meth. Ephedrine, one of the key chemicals needed to make meth, is easily available in India.

But making meth is not easy. It requires chemical expertise, and it is dangerous. And that’s why, Mosavi brought along with him his own meth-cook from Iran – Mehmood Zaffarani.

Allegations leveled against Administration for misappropriation of temple funds and old valuable jewellery

[h=1]Where Are Tirupati Tirumala Temple’s Old Invaluable Jewels, Asks Chief Priest; Alleges Funds Diversion[/h]

d44782ee_6520_4f0c_b241_108a883e31b6.jpg

The Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam (TTD) board is in the news for wrong reasons yet again. The Tirumala temple head priest has alleged that there have been irregularities in TTD governance which as reported by The Indian Express has led to a open war between the TTD administration and its priests.

Tirumala head priest A V Ramana Dikshitulu has alleged that that the administrators failed to uphold the ethos and sanctity of the temple, indulging in impropriety and corruption.

At a press conference in Chennai on Tuesday (15 May) Dikshitulu alleged that the administration lacked commitment, and that he suspected that the temple funds could have been diverted and some valuable ancient jewels misappropriated.

The daily quoted the head priest as saying that they (hereditary priests) have been become helpless after 1996 when the Andhra Pradesh Government took over the reins of the temple’s administration. He alleged that these days only new jewellery was being handed over by the administrators to adorn the presiding deity of the temple, wondering what happened to the old and invaluable ones.

Demanding an open audit of the jewels and maintenance of digital records, he said only a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation will reveal the truth on how temple funds were being utilised.

[h=1]Priest in TN performs puja in front of a cobra, lands himself in jail[/h]

The priest was performing rituals to celebrate the 80th birth anniversary of his parents. Animal rights activists were not happy.

The latest bizarre videos doing the rounds online is that of a Hindu priest offering flowers and performing rituals in front of a cobra. A few Hindu priests, an old couple seated on chairs for whom the puja is being done, and a snake charmer are seen in the 13-minute video. One of the priests has since been arrested.

Hindu groups protest at Tirumala seeking probe into chief priest’s allegations

Tirumala_Tirupati_PTI_750x500.jpg

The demonstrations broke out after the TTD relieved chief priest A V Ramana Deekshitulu of his duties on Friday.

A few Hindu organisations held protests and staged a demonstration against the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) on Saturday, questioning its decision to shunt out chief priest AV Ramana Deekshitulu after he made major allegations against the governing board of the temple.

Demanding a probe into the allegations made by Ramana, Hindu Chaitanya Samithi president T. Omkar told reporters that an inquiry must also be conducted to make the details of the presiding deity’s ornaments public.
According to reports, the ornaments and jewels in question were donated to the temple atop Tirumala during the Srikrishnadevaraya era.

Ramana had alleged that some of the jewels had been missing for a long time now, but the TTD had refused to make the information public.

The little girl from Mahabalipuram who is taking Indian skateboarding scene by storm

Kamali_surfergirl_7_750_JamieThomas.jpg

Eight-year-old Kamali Moorthy, a child prodigy, is the only girl skateboarder and surfer in her hamlet in Tamil Nadu.

It was 3pm on a Friday. The air was hot and salty, and Fisherman Colony, a seaside village near Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu, was baking in the afternoon sun. Seemingly oblivious to the heat, a few children are skateboarding on a quirky new skating ramp set up in the street. Among them was an arresting sight – a small girl effortlessly navigating the concrete slopes of the ramp, setting herself apart from the rest.

With her short hair tied up and two front teeth still taking shape, 8-year-old Kamali Moorthy grins as she drops into the ramp from the granite coping and rolls down the slopes, as if she was born to do so. And this is indeed the common belief among many people, from tourists to the fisher folk, who adore Kamali, the only girl skateboarder and surfer in the hamlet.

Kudos to Bangalore City Police for acting so smartly with swift and tact.

[h=1]He stole a phone, saw nudes, then blackmailed medico for sex; caught[/h]
A youth working as a drone pilot has fallen prey to an attention diverter’s hoax when he was driving his car near RV College on Mysore Road. The accused stole his phone and hacked it, and later began chatting with his ex-girlfriend. He then blackmailed her to have sex with him, by threatening to upload her nude photos including intimate videos of her and her boyfriend.

The accused also demanded Rs 20 lakh to delete the photos. When the couple approached the police for help, they formed a team of 10 policemen and managed to trap the accused.

The victim, Keshav Vijayam, 26, is a resident of Lalbahadur Shastri Nagar. After he lodged a complaint at the Kengeri police station, the police swung into action despite it being election results day, and managed to save the woman.

The incident happened on May 6, around 11.15 pm, when Keshav was driving his car towards the city from Mysore Road. When he was passing RV College, he noticed around three people, one of whom stopped his car and showed him a hub cap. Since Keshav couldn’t understand what he was saying, he got down from his car to find the accused asking him if he had lost one of his hub caps. When Keshav returned after checking if all his hub caps were in place, he realised that his car keys were missing from the ignition. Though he was able to find them in the back seat of his car, he realised that his mobile phone was missing from the dash board.

Health Department issues alert

6 Nipah virus deaths in Kerala: Bat-infested house well of first victims sealed

Lini%20nurse.jpg

A nurse who used to work at the Taluk Hospital in Perambra was cremated on Monday morning, hours after she died at 2 am
With the northern part of Kerala gripped by fear over the rare Nipah virus, the health department has issued a high alert throughout the state.

Health Minister KK Shylaja said that six deaths due to the virus had been confirmed and that the government was setting up more facilities at the Kozhikode Medical College, as that was the district with maximum fatalities so far.

The minister had an evaluation meeting with the Director of Health Services, Dr RL Saritha, and experts from the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.

Authorities have found that there had been bats in the well located in the house of the family at Changaroth panchayat in Kozhikode district which lost three members to the Nipah virus. The well which had been the source of water for the family has now been sealed, the minister informed.

Siblings Mohammed Sadik (26) and Mohammed Salih (28), sons of Valachuketti Moosa, died on May 5 and May 18 respectively. Moosa’s brother Moideen’s wife Mariam (50) passed away on May 19. Moosa (62) is in a critical condition while Atifa (19), Salih’s fiancée, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Direct contact with infected pigs, other infected animals, or through contaminated fruits (half-eaten fruits left by fruit bats), and even direct contact with sick persons have been cited as the underlying cause of outbreaks.

Death of nursing staff

A nurse who used to work at the Taluk Hospital in Perambra was cremated on Monday morning, hours after she died at 2 am. The dead body of the nurse, identified as Lini, was not handed over to her family; instead hospital authorities cremated her body at an electronic crematorium. Nine people, including a girl, died on Tuesday in police firing after the ongoing anti-Sterlite protests turned violent with thousands of people from nearby areas allegedly attacking the District Collectorate demanding closure of the Vedanta Group-run company.

In the first major incident of police firing in Tamil Nadu on protesters and resultant deaths, they first fired teargas shells and carried out baton charges to bring the protesters under control but passions were high.

Police then resorted to firing as thousands of people gathered in defiance of prohibitory orders on the 100th day of their agitation ever since the company announced the expansion plans of the four lakh tonne per annum Sterlite Copper project and attacked the Collectorate.

The area around the Collectorate resembled a battle-zone with the protesters setting vehicles afire and attacking policemen with stones. Plumes of black smoke emanated from the protest site. Police retaliated in a bid to bring the situation under control.

Among those who died were identified as Antony Selvaraj, Kandiah, Gladson, Jayaram, Maniraj, Tamilarasan, Shanmugham and Venista. At least 60 people, including policemen and journalists covering the protests, were injured in the clashes. Many of them were admitted to hospitals for treatment as their condition was serious.

Among the injured was a 16-year-old schoolgirl who was waiting for her bus when she was hit by a bullet.

"The AJT, being built by HAL under licence from British BAE Systems, was flown for the first time with home-grown avionics software, including real-time operating system," a company official told IANS.

The avionics software provides a standard run-time environment for real-time applications.

"The real-time operating system is a key technology for executing multiple applications and optimal use of hardware in modern avionics software," said HAL Chairman T. Suvarna Raju in a statement on the occasion.

[h=1]Indian innovation: The pressure cooker fix that saved TTK Prestige from imminent bankruptcy[/h]

[h=2][/h]“Your cookers are bursting, and nobody wants to buy them.” With these words, a shopkeeper in Lucknow flung open the doors of his warehouse to show me row upon row of pressure cookers, all of them bearing the Prestige brand, all of which had exploded.

I simply couldn’t believe my eyes. We had never experienced anything like this, and I could swear by all that I held dear about the quality of our production. How, then, had these cookers burst?

After taking up the reins at Prestige in 1975, I had won over hostile employees and solved the shortage of aluminium that had crippled production. We got a small quota of aluminium, and that allowed us to make enough cookers to supply south India only.

By 1978 the shortage of aluminium had started to ease, and we were back to supplying our customers India-wide. But while the sales of our cookers picked up in the south, they were not doing well in the north, and I set out to find out why.
