[h=1]One year of Modi govt: Achievements of ministries being combined along with inputs from experts, social media[/h]NEW DELHI: Saal ek, shuruaat anek (one year, many starts). That's one of the slogans the Narendra Modi government has coined to celebrate its achievements and mark its firstanniversary, which falls on May 26.

With adman Piyush Pandey closely involved in the exercise, expect more catchphrases — one area in which the government has not been wanting. 'Modi sarkar, vikaas lagatar' is another that's been phrased as part of the initiative.

The information and broadcasting ministry is busy collating the achievements of all ministries and departments with inputs from experts and social media. The compendium exceeds 500 pages and is expected to be analysed by PMO officials this week.

Secretaries of all ministries have met seven times to put together the one-year performance reports, officials said.

They have filed details about their achievements, priority schemes and funds utilised. As for outright wins, only 11 ministries have those, since for many it's too early to say anything for sure.

"Some ministries are finding it difficult to cull out success stories because the schemes have begun only a few months ago and the impact is yet to be seen, especially with respect to social sector and infrastructure projects," said an official familiar with the matter.

No acche din for higher education

Besides cuts in state funding which is a critical area of concern, the BJP-led government’s overall approach to education is destructive of autonomy, creativity and diversity.

Not a single Indian institution of higher learning figures in the list of top 200 universities prepared by The Times Higher Education Supplement. These dismal rankings are quite often taken as a measure of the crisis of higher education in India, notwithstanding the obvious limitations of the ranking exercise. But all is not well with Indian universities.
So far, the Narendra Modi government has done very little to address the crisis in higher education. The government started on a controversial note. Prime Minister Modi’s selection to head the Ministry of Human Resources and Development (HRD) raised questions about the importance of education under this dispensation as it showed scant regard for education in spite of the fact that the Sangh Parivar takes education very seriously.

Lower budgetary allocation

The government’s first Budget has not delivered achhe din for higher education in the country. The Union Budget for 2015-16 has reduced funds for higher education to the tune of Rs.3,900 crore in its revised budget estimates for the financial year 2014-15. The government has revised the figure to Rs.13,000 crore, as against Rs.16,900 crore for the plan allocation. The overall education budget of the Modi government is down from Rs.82,771 crore to Rs.69,074 crore. The government has also revised allocation for the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) — which is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS), launched in 2013 that aims at providing strategic funding to eligible state higher educational institutions — to Rs.397 crore as against Rs.2,200 crore in the original Budget.

Modi and his Chakravyuh

TH_20_Modi_jpg_241_2411282g.jpg

Illustration: Satwik Gade[h=2]The Chakravyuh in the Mahabharata was a seven-ringed, impenetrable battle formation. In his first year, the Prime Minister has successfully broken through two circles. But there are five more to go.[/h]Abhimanyu was in Shubhadra’s womb when he heard Lord Krishna reveal the secret of how to enter the Chakravyuha. But he did not learn how to exit it, and that is the reason why he was finally killed in fierce battle in the heart of the enemy’s army. Not so Gandhiji, who triumphed over the Chakravyuh effortlessly. Not only was he able to enter and exit it with ease, he did so at a time and place of his choosing, dissolving it with ahimsa and creating independent India.

Jawaharlal Nehru largely designed the Chakravyuh of the modern Indian state. Even though not as easily as Gandhiji, he did succeed in entering and exiting it — democratic and secular India was the consequence. Indira Gandhi got trapped in the Chakravyuh. Like Abhimanyu, she got to the sixth circle, but was felled by the Emergency and, becoming increasingly authoritarian and paranoid, found the circles closing around her and she succumbed to the arrows from enemies both imagined and real.

We could continue preparing a report card for all the Prime Ministers and their Chakravyuhas but the coming anniversary of Modi’s first year in office is an opportunity to speculate on his chances of successfully negotiating the Chakravyuha of government.

Abhimanyu heard Krishna saying that the trick was to attack and destroy the soldiers to the left and to the right, so that irrespective of which way the circle turned, one would be able to enter it. The Prime Minister has attacked the politics on the Left but is not quite decisive in his support for the economic policies of the Right. While the Left is rebelling against his social and cultural policies, the Right is beginning to grumble that nothing has changed on the economic front. 'Nothing is changed on the ground’ said Mr. Deepak Parekh.

No scam and scandal, corruption and retribution

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley

"Where do we stand one year later? The whole parade of industrialists lining up outside South Block and North Block is now over. The corridors are empty, the silence cheery. FDI increased from $20.8 billion in 2013-14 (Apr13-Feb14) to $28.8 billion in 2014-15 (Apr14-Feb15). The others are in advance stages of the approval process. The environment Ministry has set up institutional mechanisms whereby clearances based on objective criteria are being routinely granted. The regime of an unlegislated tax on environmental clearances is over. The spectrum auction has fetched over rupees one lakh crores. A few coal blocks being auctioned have fetched over rupees two lakh crores. There is no role of Ministers except in laying down policy. Prices are determined by a market mechanism and the successful bidder is determined by auction. The word "corruption" is being removed from India's political dictionary. The environment of "prosecute the investors" has been completely reversed. There is a thrust towards reforms and liberalization but no crony capitalism, no harassment. The "scam and scandal, corruption and retribution" Raj is behind us.

With the fiscal deficit contained and Government's revenues improving, the emphasis is now on strengthening social security and social sector schemes. Over 15 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened. An effort is now on to put money in those accounts. Besides, Government schemes for the weaker sections, the LPG subsidy is now being transferred directly to over 12.6 crore beneficiary households. The insurance scheme for accidental death launched on 9.5.2015, in the first nine days, has 5.57 crore policy holders. This scheme involves a premium of Rs.12/- per year. The life insurance scheme involves a premium of Rs.330/- per year and has 1.74 crore subscribers in the first 18 days. The Atal Pension Yojana has been well received. The un-pensioned section of the Indian society will become a pensioned one. The MUDRA bank will assist 5.77 crore small entrepreneurs in raising funds. The distressed farmer has been given relief under the liberalized norms. Additional money has been allocated for MGNREGA. The enhanced resources of the State will be increasingly used towards infrastructure creation, irrigation and social sector schemes. Herein lies the difference between UPA's crony capitalism and institutional destruction and NDA's liberalization and anti-corruption, combined with an emphasis on both strengthening institution building and social security for the poor and vulnerable.

He still seems to be in election propaganda mode and has stirred an hornet's nest unfortunately on a foreign soil. But his alter ego is building castles for him. Main foundation "(no) corruption". A few weeks ago there was report on milk prices. "The suppliers were getting only less than Rs.15/Rs.17/- and the consumers have been paying Rs.39/l. Now today the papers say consumer will pay more (MRP)." Yes. Where is corruption? Where is that Rs.20 or 22. Maybe we will know from the Lord when he takes Kalki Avatar. Make in India is Modiji's slogan and the world welcomes him with open India as if they have been asked make India!

talking like opposition is easy thing....but governing is tough....just example...modi's govt and kejariwal's delhi govt.....but still better than

Steep rise in citizenship to Hindus and Sikhs from Pakistan and Afghanistan

At the end of April 2015, the BJP government has approved citizenship for 4,230 Hindus and Sikhs from these two countries who have sought refuse in India, compared with 1,023 granted by the Congress-led UPA-II.

The increase in citizenship grants is in line with BJP's declared aim of positioning India as a refuge for Hindus fleeing persecution anywhere in the world, much like Israel's stance towards Jews. In its election manifesto for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had declared India as "a natural home for persecuted Hindus" who "shall be welcome to seek refuge".

After the BJP government took charge in Delhi last May, nearly 19,000 migrants have already been given long-term visas in Madhya Pradesh. Some 11,000 persons have been granted visas, which precede citizenship, in Rajasthan, while in case of Gujarat, the figure is around 4,000, said officials familiar with the drive.

The changes in the Citizenship Act that ensure faster disposal of citizenship requests have the potential to open up the floodgates, swelling the number of those eventually ..

Modiversary: How some key ministers ensure job gets done

The three major thrust areas uninterrupted power, railways and roads are in fast lane; results are already in and showing.

*****
"Suddenly, the Centre-state boundary had melted. Micro-management by ministers and taking states on board, irrespective of political colour, is now the norm rather than exception for infrastructure ministries.

One year is a blip for infrastructure where projects take years before they get going. But steps taken in coal, power, rail and road over the last year indicate a holistic approach, pragmatism and smart thinking.

The first indication of this approach came when Modi broke the traditional mould putting the coal, power and renewable energy ministries under one minister ending bickering over projects. Things began moving.

The past month saw some game changers: Steps separating domestic and commercial feeders through the country, reviving gas-fired generation units through a subsidy mechanism, redrawing the coal supply map for power stations to improve supply, saving time and transportation costs, ramping up coal output through incremental production from existing mines and starting new mines to achieve a target of a billion tonne of coal in coming years.

While power and coal has hogged the limelight, the Railways have been quietly changing tracks. The people carrier for the first time steered away from populism, not announcing new projects - a practice that'd to do with pandering to political constituency.

Under the watch of Suresh Prabhu, focus is on completing pending remunerative projects. These are expected to ramp up carrying capacity and bring in much-needed funds for modernization.

There's new thinking on funding. Within months of the government taking office, FDI norms for railway infrastructure were eased with an eye on the huge kitty of overseas insurance and pension funds.

Nowhere is the government's pragmatic approach more visible than the roads ministry underNitin Gadkari. Nearly in a moribund state for years, road-building is gathering pace.

About 40 projects have been cancelled. Money has been pumped into those staggering near the finish line. Hybrid and EPC contract models were put in for new projects. Bonds are being proposed to raise funds.

[h=2]If Year One was about diplomacy, Year Two has to be about the economy. The world is waiting to see what India has to offer in real terms.[/h]
At the end of a year of hectic diplomacy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi may well have come to the same conclusion that his predecessor Manmohan Singh did when he told the India Today Conclave in February 2005, “The world wants India to do well… our real challenges are at home.”
unnamed_2411332c.jpg

It is by ensuring that the Indian economy kept in step with an annual rate of economic growth of over 8.0 per cent in 2003-10, creating expectations of an India on the rise, that the government of the day was able to undertake important diplomatic initiatives. The economic slide after 2011, and the crisis of domestic governance that followed, brought the India Story to a grinding halt by 2012-13. A year ago, the political consequences of that misgovernance followed. A new leader took charge.
Most comments this past week on the Modi government completing one year have made the point that while the Prime Minister shines on foreign policy, his record at home on political and economic management has been below par. While Mr. Modi’s foreign forays have been impressive, both in style and substance, how the world will come to view India in the years ahead will depend on how the Indian economy performs and the polity managed. That Mr. Modi understands where the real challenges lie is demonstrated by the fact that he has made national economic development the focus of his international diplomacy.

.....................

Apart from India’s economic rise, the success of its secular, liberal and plural democracy is also desperately sought by a world divided along sectarian, ethnic, racial and religious lines. India’s rise as a democracy, and on the basis of the inclusive concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, has an appeal as important as the market for goods and talent that India represents.
These impulses ought to define the agenda for the government’s second year in office. The ruling coalition still has the advantage of numbers. The principal opposition party remains hobbled and unable to regain momentum. The government can have no excuses, other than its own inertia or lack of imagination, for not moving forward faster, and in a more inclusive way.

Twenty-four foot LED screen, an invitation card with QR (quick response) code, a Facebook page, simultaneous telecast in embassies across the world – the Make-in-India launch at Vigyan Bhawan on September 24 last year was unlike what usually goes for a sarkari function. Speaking at the launch, prime minister Narendra Modi called 'Make-in-India' his government's "lion's step", a reference to its logo.
In the eight months since, the PM has pushed the message among businessmen in India and abroad at every opportunity. "I have come to say to you Make-in-India. The 5F formula - from farm to fibre to fabric to fashion to foreign!" he told a delegation of Chinese CEOs on his recent trip to the country. "India is ready to welcome the whole world with open arms," he told the Germans at Hanover Messe in April.
The logic, as the PM has clarified several times, is simple – India needs to rejuvenate its manufacturing sector, which has been in sharp decline over the decades, to transform its economy and hasten the pace of job creation.
But nearly eight months down the line, how far has Modi succeeded?
Going by data from Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), the office under the union commerce ministry that oversees Make-in-India, the number of IEMs (industrial entrepreneurs memorandum) filed dipped from 2,365 in 2013 (calendar year) to 1,801 in 2014.
The value of proposed investments came down from Rs.529,828 crore to Rs.404,339 crore in 2014 – nearly 24% lower. The proposed new employment opportunities that these industrial units promised to generate also saw a significant drop from 10,48,207 in 2013 to 4,43,122 in 2014.
The trends were not encouraging for the first four months of 2015 either – only 452 IEMs with a proposed investment of Rs.87,393. Of these, as many as 202 IEMs with proposed investments of Rs.45,328 crore were filed in the month of April alone.
This is a revealing statistic since IEM is a key document that all businesspersons who want to set up an industrial unit must file with the DIPP. Thus, a drop in IEMs reflects, prima facie, how little Indian industry has been enthused by Make-in-India. This, despite the government considerably easing the process of doing business, by making the filing of industrial licences and IEM online, 24×7, through an eBiz portal, which functions as a single-window portal for getting government clearances.
According to D K Srivastava, chief policy advisor, EY India, Make-in-India does not seem to have had "any signs of tangible take-offs". "Expectations were high when the government came to power and sweeping, broad reforms were expected. But the government seems to be looking at narrow targets. It has deemphasized the services sector, which creates more jobs with lesser investment, and focused on manufacturing where the ratio of investment to jobs is much lower."
Sumit Majundar, president of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is not worried. "You can't expect to get results so soon after a policy change. Besides, there is the hangover of the previous regime."

.........................
Make-in-India may have made the world look at India with positive eyes but international investments are long-term decisions. The private sector is wary of investing as it has already burnt its fingers – it is only if the government begins investing in infrastructure that the economy will start looking up with the spiralling effect it will have on the commodity and transport sectors."

There is an assumption by many of the so called analysts that when a person is elected they will do the magic.
The media has accountability to change the mindset as well but they are irresponsible to that fact. The structured society want changes for the better for themselves but they will not do one thing to effect a change.

This is not defending PM Modi or his one year record.

Anyone critiquing must show what little they are doing in their life to effect a positive change.
They have to live by the adage "[h=1]“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”[/h]
If PM Modi is shown to be also corrupt that will be concern. He is doing whatever is possible and the results so far do not seem to match the expectations set it seems

Sir,

I agree.

Need of the hour is patience and perseverance.

Most of us know that "Rome was not built in a day". We know that there are lot of obstacles and challenges to reach the goal.

As for as Medias are concerned, some of them are self-centered and worried only about the TRP rating which is linked to their revenue. We just share the information, but don't go by the medias reports.

Let us wait to see the desired transformation.:)

Modi@1: Why Modi has to succeed

Modi cannot afford to fail the Indian people and in return the Indian people cannot fail Modi. There is too much riding on this equation for failure to be an option. There is too much invested in this relationship for it to splinter, says Vivek Gumaste.

The glistening aureus has lost its sheen; the luminous dazzle of the diamond has dulled; and the giddy, mesmerising mantra of 'acche din' chanted into the receptive ears of an eager nation hungering for assertive captaincy and revolutionary change post Narendra Modi's unequivocal electoral triumph has become an indiscernible murmur with the passage of a year, if the foreboding naysayers that abound in our nation are to be believed.

But what is the hard truth? Have the effulgent promises of a land flowing with milk and honey evaporated under the scorching heat of a hot Indian summer? Has Prime

Minister Modi proved to be a damp squib -- a conjuror sans substance? Or is this alarmist hue and cry an act of rank skullduggery; a fake illusion deliberately floated by his detractors to undermine his efforts to take India to greater heights?

An objective and mature assessment is warranted: One that evaluates his role as the chief cheerleader, his foreign policy, his economic achievements and his shortcomings.

The BACK Benchers with Priyanka Nimse and 46 others

Since last few days, I have seen quite a few jokes on Narendra Modi i's foreign visits.... and all people are curious why Narendra Modi visits so many countries..., and what is India achieving from it. .

Narendra Modi is no greenhorn in politics and statecraft. . . He has already achieved more for Gujarat in his tenure as CM there than any Indian state ever had. . . Few hidden (because the main stream media will purposely ignore them) achievements are given below: . .

1. BJP Govt. convinced Saudi Arabia not to charge “On-Time Delivery Premium charges" on Crude Oil – Young Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan & External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj sealed the deal. Saved the country thousands of crores... . .

2. India will build 4 Hydroelectric power stations + Dams in Bhutan (India will get lion's share in Green energy that will be produced in future from these projects) . .

3. India will build Biggest ever dam of Nepal (China was trying hard to get that) – India will get 83% Green energy produce from that hydro power station for free – in future. . . . .

4. Increased relationship with Japan and they agreed to invest $ 30 Billion in DMIC (Delhi – Mumbai Investment Corridor). That's Rs 200,000 crores by today's exchange rates..... . .

5. Increased strategic relationship with Vietnam and Vietnam has now agreed to give contract of Oil exploration to ONGC-Videsh (UPA was not ready to take this at all because they were worried about China – and getting into a conflict of interests on south China sea). The UPA had always been on the backfoot about every aspect of foreign policy. . .

6. Increase Oil Imports from Iran, despite the ban by USA. . Iran agreed to sell in Indian Rupees and it saved our Forex, not just for now, but protected India from future currency fluctuations. India also gets to build “Chabahar” port of Iran, encircling Pakistan. Because we well have exclusive access for our Naval ships in this port. . .

7. India – Australia (NaMo is first PM to visit Australia after 28 yrs), despite Australia being a major supplier of Coal & Uranium. . . NaMo was able to convince Tony Abbott and now Australia will supply Uranium for our energy production. . . .

8. China leaning President Rajapakse lost elections in Sri Lanka – Remember UPA lost “Hambantota” port development – read latest
report of CIA, where they mention RAW has played a major role in power shift of Sri Lanka. Now Modi has confirmed he is visiting Sri Lanka in April. And Sri Lanka has backed out of Chinese contract and shifted to Indian project managers. . .

9. With China, as Trade Deficit was increasing, NaMo forced their hand. Anti-Dumping will come soon so China will invest heavily into India. – China has already committed $ 20 billion Investment in India. That's nearly ₹140,000 crores. . . .

10. On Security – I think adding Ajit Doval to his team is the best decision by NaMo. See the recent tie-up with Pentagon, Israel & Japan. . . Remember I. K. Gujaral as PM stopped RAW’s offensive operations in foreign countries. . Now see how we stopped the Terror Boat and listen to his words … “Any Mumbai like attack from Pakistan and Pakistan will lose Baluchistan!" That's the language of deterrence that I want to hear as an Indian. We won't hit first, but if you do, we surely won't turn the other cheek.... . . .

11. India approved the border road in the NorthEast and around India- China border – Remember just because of China’s opposition, the ADB (Asian Development Bank) didn’t give us funds during UPA regime and UPA held that file under “Environment Ministry control – Remember the infamous “JAYANTHI TAX "? No one bothered about the disastrous effect on our armed forces. . . .

12. India managed to bring back 4,500+ Indians from War zone in Yemen and also brought foreign nationals of 41 different countries, which put India’s name onto the highest platform globally in conducting that rescue mission – PM Narendra Modi specially talked to the new Saudi Arabian king Salman and told him to allow Indian Airforce planes to fly – as Saudi Arabia was attacking on Yemen and Yemen skies was declared NO-FLY Zone: thanks to this we got an assured clear window of a few hours and guys guess who coordinated this? Ajit Doval, Sushama Swaraj and Gen V K Singh. All in person.... When was the last time you ever heard of ministers involved personally in such efforts that didn't fetch thousands of crores?? Guess the religion of those rescued?? But it isn't secular to mention that most of those rescued from Yemen or earlier from Iraq weren't Hindus at all.. . .

13. India’s Air defense was getting weaker by the day, UPA was very happy to let it happen despite repeated specific inputs from the armed forces, NaMo renegotiated Rafale fighter Jets deal with France personally and bought 36 Jets on ASAP basis. At better than rack rates. No middlemen, no commissions... . . .

14. For the first time after 42 yrs Indian Prime Minister visited Canada not to attend some meeting but as a specific state visit, in a Bilateral deal, India was able convince to Canada to supply Uranium for India’s Nuclear reactors for next 5 years. It will be of great help to resolve India’s Power problems. . . .

15. Canada approves visa on arrival for all Indian tourists. . . .

16. Till recently we were exclusively buying Nuclear Reactors from Russia or USA and it was much like beggar kind of situation because they were worried about usage of Nuclear reactor for some other use. So only what they opted to give us, we could get. . Now Narendra Modi was able to convince France and now France will make Nuclear reactors with the latest technology in India. On MAKE IN INDIA efforts.. with collaboration with an Indian company as a partner. . .

17. During 26th Jan. visit of Barack Obama, NaMo convinced USA to drop rule of Nuclear fuel tracking and sorted out Liabilities rules which now open the gates for next 16 Nuclear power plant projects. . . . Isn't this good enough to improve the lot of India?? . .
The paid media # Presstitutes will ensure you never get to hear this... . . Spread the word. It's worth the trouble.

NRI investments will now be considered domestic

Good or bad for NRIs?

New Delhi
Aiming to attract overseas funds, Indian government on Thursday decided that non-repatriable investments by
NRIs, OCIs and PIOs will be treated as domestic investments and will not be subject to foreign direct investment caps.
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had approved amendments, including changes in definition of NRIs, to be incorporated in the FDI policy.
Investments by NRIs under under Schedule 4 of FEMA regulations will be deemed to be domestic investment at par with the investment made by residents, an official statement said.
The Cabinet’s decision is expected to result in increased investments across sectors and greater inflow of foreign exchange remittance leading to economic growth of the country, it added.
The government had earlier raised the FDI limit in sectors such as defence, insurance, real estate, railways and medical devices.
During his foreign vists, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been reaching out to NRIs to invest in India.
Non-resident Indians too have been demanding that their investment be considered as domestic investment.
