"Better late than never" goes the saying. It was poet Kannadasan who told that he had wasted all the years of his life till he met Kanchi Paramaachrya. He started learning the Holy scriptures at the advise of Kanchi Paramacharya and wrote his magnus opus "அர்த்தமுள்ள இந்து மதம் " . He submitted the following poem when he met Mahaswamigal at the first instance:

The change takes place for every human being at the time fixed by the Almighty.
We hope Sri Karunanidhi brings out his best when he writes about Ilayazhvar.

...WE VADAMAS WITH NAAMAM...

Human tendency is thinking differently. Ramanujar was not an exception. Though his teacher was an Advaithe, he thought differently and preached. So many Bs hailed from very orthodox families became atheists and spoke against their own communities. It is not a new thing. Further, Ramanujar has not lived thousands and thousands of years. Hence, we don't know whether he accepted his decision or regretted it.

But the fact that he belonged to Vadama Sect cannot be denied.

If it is argued that Indian Christians and Muslims are one way or the other Hindus, then the same yardstick can be applied to Ramanujar thasars also i.e. Namam Tharitha Vadamas.

Although Sri Ramanujar could have been vadama, there is ample evidence to suggest that he was from a 'Vadama/Vaishnava' family. His maternal 'Periya Thirumalai Nambi', as the name suggests, held an important office post/role in Thirupathi Venkateswara temple. Although there are other suggestions (such as his mother's name being 'Kanthimathi', etc), according to the book on Sri Ramanujar in the site 'acharya.org', his mother's name was 'Bhudevi'. I think his sister's husband was LakshmiNarayana Dheekshitar. So given he was born in a Vaishnava home, there is no room to doubt his mind getting changed later, etc.

We are talking about 1000's of years of history... even the origins of so-called 'Vadamas' - we know nothing of. Therefore I would not speculate so much on SriVaishnavas being vadamas with namam, etc.

Who was the author of book on Ramajuna? If he is a Vaishnavite, we cannot expect a factual information, if it is other way around. The suffix 'Dikshidhar' refers only to Smarthas and definitely not Vaishnavas and 50:50, unless the male was a Smartha.

We don't have proper history of a person who belonged to 11th or 12th century; but we are so meticulous in the case of Ramar Bridge. How is it possible?

Velukkudi krishnan, in a meeting presided by karunanidhi, gave a short talk in chaste tamizh on 'azwars and tamizh'. He did not look at Mk or even said a few words on Mk. He stuck to the topic from beginning to end. Some kazhagam members later murmured that it was an insult, but Mk did not say anything against vk. In fact he was fascinated by the brilliant dose of braminical tamiuzh. This program me was on TV.

Some Dravidian leaders created a situation by which to show that Bs are not serving for the growth of Tamil.

Bs', especially Smarthas, role in the growth and development of Tamil is on the high order. UV Swaminatha Iyer, popularly known as Tamizh Thatha, an Ashtasahasram Iyer, sweat his blood for the welfare of Tamil.

Therefore, it is not a new thing to see Bs' fluency in Tamil.

same goes with thangam thennarasu who is not only familiar with but sings them along with bajanai during margazhi. this from his postings in Facebook :). thennarasu is the brother of the poet thamizhacchi (sumati) thangapandian, both coming from old time dmk families.

tamil language is so tightly intertwined with its saivite and vaishnavite hymns, that one would be unable to love one without loving the other. that is what i think.
