Sambhaar or Rasam:

"Shall I prepare Sambhar, or Rasam today" asked wife.
"First make it, we will name it later" - replied husband!
"Are they different" - asked "asariri".

Actually, during my studying days, one of my (NB) friends was quite surprised when he came to know that we make rasam separately. For them, the top thin liquid was drained separately, and added with coriander leaves it became rasam, while the viscous liquid became sambhar.

I have no idea how your friend made rasam at home.

Everyone especially Tamilians knows that Rasam and Sambar are made separately.

It is 2 different dishes.

Rasam itself has many varieties:

There is plain rasam, tomato rasam, drumstick rasam, pepper rasam and a buttermilk rasam as far as I know which I have eaten made by my grandmum.
