First around-the-world solar plane will reach Ahmedabad on March 10



The Solar Impulse took off from Abu Dhabi on its historic around-the-world-in-a-solar-airplane-flight on Monday morning.

Two Swiss pilots, Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg, attempting the first flight around the world in a solar-powered plane began the maiden leg of their voyage on Monday. Solar Impulse 2 took off from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates en route to the Omani capital Muscat at the start of a five-month journey of 35,000 km (22,000 miles) organised to focus the world`s attention on sustainable energy.


The aircraft is expected to reach Ahmedabad on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. It must be noted, however, that adverse weather can cause delay. The plane will stay in Ahmedabad for four days. Subsequently, the aircraft will make a stop in Varanasi before flying out of India to Myanmar.


While in Ahmedabad, several events are planned on the theme of renewable energy and sustainable development.


Switzerland, that has ranked first for the fourth consecutive year on the global innovative index, is home to cutting edge innovation.

Solar Impulse 2 stores energy in 4 lithium ion batteries to be able to fly in the night. This is the first time a solar powered plane crossed an ocean ie Arabian Sea. It is also the first time a solar plane has arrived in Asia.
The plane will stay in Ahmedabad for four days. Subsequently, the aircraft will make a stop in Varanasi before flying out of India to Myanmar.
