Do we sufficiently appreciate the contribution of Indians living overseas ?

Many Indians who have settled abroad continue to maintain a very strong connection with India, even after living overseas for many years.

Their contribution is not only through remittances. Many continue to support parents and relatives here, maintain homes and property in India, contribute to charities and religious institutions, help with education and medical expenses, invest in India, and remain involved with their extended families and communities.

There is also a less measurable contribution — maintaining Indian traditions and culture within their families abroad and passing them on to the next generation.

Of course, everyone's circumstances are different, but I sometimes feel that the continuing contribution of Indians living overseas to India and to their families here does not receive enough recognition.

What do members here think ? Do we sufficiently appreciate the contribution made by Indians living abroad ?

indians generally living abroad as individual success than more community based,,,,,every life has

its own difficulties....living abroad is not a easy thing....very hard work and many sacrifices for every

individual....not much recognition in his own homeland...ONLY DOLLARS REQUIRED.....i will tell my own

story....when i reach indian airport ...never welcome as indian.....but when i reach USA airport..

im having USA passport...they say....WELCOME HOME....i never heard in india....its sad story..even

when i reached indian airport..they ask ...why did you come to india....but no other country

asked same question about their own citizen like this....only in india....there is no service...

but we have service charge for everything...my own observation...

Any reason why the contribution needs to be appreciated?
What type of appreciation are you looking for?

The diaspora works hard, often under tough, isolated conditions, yet many of them consistently redirect their wealth and emotional energy back to India. Recognizing them as equal stakeholders in our community's future, is a good form of appreciation, rather than some of us back home in India, seeing them as just temporary visitors when they come for visits home.

I guess this is where the Gita helps

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन ।
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि ॥ 47 ॥

karmaṇy-evādhikāras te mā phaleṣhu kadāchana
mā karma-phala-hetur bhūr mā te saṅgo ’stvakarmaṇi

only money and materials are expected....even as own army service for the country....no respect

for ex serviceman....its part of country man...

But does anyone actually disrespect Indians who are working abroad or USA citizens?

How about other way round? The respect for home country. Ironically Indian citizens respect USA more than India though that's beginning to change.

If you are a USA passport holder, when you enter the Indian airport they will ask you why you are coming to India.

Malaysian passport holders are asked many questions upon entering India.

Many Msian Indians who are Msian passport holders too are OCI holders as India allows up to 6th generation Msian Indians to have an OCI.

I Dont understand your question. All these people have tgone to foreign locations expecting a rich life. Keep in mind that they completed their basic education in India, with the help of the Indian tax payers money.
So, I dont think there is any particular reason to recognze them, as a special catagory.
We have millions of Indians, who stay back and contribute for the growth of Bharath.
Look at the million of youth in the army, research, teaching, agriculture, and start-ups.
It is these Bhartiyas who needs to be appreciated.

We should not brand as contributions from Indians living Overseas.
One is peoples going to other countries on job to maintain their family and give them sustained life and education to children which is their breadwinner working overseas.
Second is peoples migrate to US, UK, Canada other countries after good education and made their life.
The real contribution is from peoples working overseas other than US and other with high post.
Especially Overseas Income contribution is maximum in Kerala as they wish to build their home with their earnings with land and garden around. Other than Kerala we buy concrete walls but not making natural air and natural health activities by a green area with more friends.
I remember when I was young in Chennai a scene I used to see in the evening.
An old couples- Thatha with walking stick but in brisk walking, together with his wife -Patti in 9 yards silk saree - with a small bag within hand holding not hanging walk together One km to the main road 50 feet wide. There provided both sides 14 inches side wall. Clean environment. One day evening when I get down from the bus, I turn the road walking and saw this Thatha-Patti sitting and talking. Patti has brought something to eat. She gave it to him and also had herself. Then I understood they walk in the evening till this place everyday and spend peaceful time. I don't know from where they are coming. But their togetherness is certainly an inspiration of good family life.
Today in the name of contribution money is available but other peace to your heart. Where would you find them?
But I surely see the overseas money certainly improve the village temples. So ordinary locals are not valued. I went to my village temple and the priest objecting me take photograph. But in the WhatsApp group I get added through an accidental contact through my taxi driver see every event of sanctom sanatorum is fully pictured and posted.
Then I observed that children of this village are in US and other prominent countries so they are more valued and blind to their activities but locals are ignored.
