Yesterday I solved a crossword puzzle - which was very interesting to solve
Here is a write-up about that puzzle

The New York Times Crossword in Gothic: 07.09.07 -- Up in Arms

That reminded me of citra kavyas of sanskrit. Here is one part of ashtavadhanam in Sanskrit

http://venetiaansell.wordpress.com/2009/06/11/a-modern-day-ashtavadhanam

A well known Sanskrit kAvya by bhAravi Kirātārjunīya
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirātārjunīya
and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirātārjunīya#Linguistic_ingenuity

This includes a canto set aside for demonstrating linguistic feats, similar to constrained writing

Bharavi's "power of description and dignity of style" were an inspiration for Māgha's Shishupala Vadha, which is modelled after the Kirātārjunīya and seeks to surpass it

There is a similar citra kavya in English (Thanks to Lewis Carrol) in Alice in the wonderland
