Are the same divine beings part of more than one religion?

It is an interesting concept. It does not delve into the origin or age of the story. The divine being might have originated independently or adapted from one religion to another.

There are examples of divine beings in other religions which have close resemblances to some in the Hindu pantheon, leading one to consider if the division of religions we see in our world is of our own making and not the reality of the higher worlds.

Divinity can only be one though considered different by humans. It is a matter of subjectivity though mapping one divine being to another in a different religion.

I had a discussion with a Buddhist monk some time ago who told me

1) Panini the grammarian was a Buddhist.
So I asked the monk..then why is the sutra written by Panini called Maheswara Sutraani, the monk replied because Shiva is a Boddhisattva.

Then he also told me Ganesha is a Boddhisattva.

So I told him well, I dont think the deities have a religion...they are like websites in the Akasha which you can log in..if a Hindu logs into Shiva website, he considers Shiva as Mahadeva and certainly views Shiva through Hindu lenses.

Likewise if a Buddhist logs into Shiva webpage..then the buddhist considers Shiva a Boddhisattva and viewed through Buddhist lenses.

The monk didnt agree with me.
He felt Shiva and Ganesha are buddhist Boddhisattvas.

Honestly I wonder does it matter to God or deities what we think of them?

On personal note after reading all your threads are you by any chance devotee of Vikraman Swamy of Nanganallur because it has come to my mind by seeing your I'd photo and name. And now this oneness reminds me of a song sung by him

Oh, it is feel good message. It is not reality. Try peaching it in Jeddah or Vatican, and see how much traction you get. It would not even fly in Iyengar bastion.

So far in my life, no christian or muslim has claimed Hindu deities are their deities.
For Muslims they say there is only one God and only Allah is God.
The polite ones just stop at that.
The ones who are mininons of a certain preacher from India who is happily living here calls any form of deity worship as polytheism.


Most Christians I have met either talk about the Holy Trinity or some just talk about Jesus and some aggressive ones who are trying to convert you say deities of other religions. are non divine beings.

So far I have not met any Muslim or Christian who hijacks Hindu Gods/deities and say they are Boddhisattva or Malaika( Angels).

So there will be nothing to preach in Jeddah or Vatican.

Perhaps true no christian or muslim or sikh or jain or shintoist or zoroastrianist or zionist or any other 'ist' or 'ite' has hijacked hindu gods or claimed any hindu gods as theirs.

But there are some excessively fanatic christian zealots who claim hindu scriptures mention about Jesus and muslim zealots who claim hindu scriptures mention about mohammed. Is there any rationale in their claims, any iota of truth or any sense, is debatable. Just query for 'sadhu chellappa' or 'zakir naik' in youtube and you will see a beehive of nonsense. Ridiculous further are claims that Tiruvalluvar is a christian saint, Tamil literatures contain christianity in essence etc etc. You will find plenty to chuckle and laugh.

For Catholics, Mary and Maari are one and same. Their flock of saints are AD Avatars of Vishnu to cater to European culture. For Greek Orthodox, Ramayana and Mahabharatha are Indian remake of their Illiad and Odyssey respectively. Greek wine in Indian bottles.

Fear of God evolved at some point of time in history of the world. Perhaps Theism evolved at different times in different places independently. What followed and has ended up as pot-pourri of chaos and confusion and bloated and blown into wars between nations is history. Worse still are the inter-religious, intra-religious, inter-sect, intra-sect, inter-subsect and intra-subsect ego wars.

Testimonies of divine visions and divine voice-calls galore across the globe. Belief-systems and faith-systems rapidly spread as contagious pandemic. Cult figures appear, get a huge fan-following, remain a sensation for a period and remain virtual for some time and disappear gradually.

Some philosophers appear, impact and captivate audience for some time and pass away. With their passing away their philosophies and teachings gradually pass away. Not many speak about JK or Rajneesh. Likewise Ratnakaram Satyanarayana Raju and JV will pass away too. RSR is almost dead. Whitefield is apparently abandoned gives deserted look. Nevertheless its mother. Someone else will appear in a new avatar. The cycle repeats unendingly.

How and where did Sankaracharya and Saint Thyagaraja find their gods? Why some gods confined themselves to limited space, to limited people group, to tribes etc?

Some appear from out of the blues, remain a sensation for some time, until someone sets a trap and they fall prey, unmasked and colors bleached and they exit. For instance Benny Hinn is Benny who now.

But for a few real genuine instances, the rest are deluded. Religions come and go. God-men come and go. Illusions and Delusions are eternal.
