Me too am curious.
Since when did this village come to be known as Virkudi?
Was it called Virakudi earlier?
There is an old Shiva temple in Virkudi - can someone from that village tell which inscriptions are the oldest found there? Cholas?
Which castes made up the village earlier ? I mean, since when was it mentioned as a brahmadeyam?

Hi Folks:
If Vir(a)kudi is in Tanjore District, is it anywhere close to Mayavaram (Peralam, or Kiranur?) I remember my grand parents lived in Kiranur, about 8 miles from Mayavaram and I used to go there some summers. Great little village, and there is this Sheerambal temple.
