At least 40 women who went through triple talaq and domestic violence have sent rakhis to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath demanding justice. These women claim to be "sisters of the nation" and say that the CM should fulfill the responsibility of a brother by ensuring speedy justice to them. They say that they have been suffering for years and want Yogi to help them urgently.

It is lleged that the show "Big Boss' has been hurting the sentiments of downtrodden people and women participants in the show were portrayed in vulgar and obscene manner and it plays with emotions and behaviours of women contestants.
A PIL has been lodged agaist the display of the show;
i have not seen the show myself, but comments from various sources indicate that the show needs to be censored before display

When I go through the comments and reactions of some in facebook , Thuglak Fan club and certain other groups, I really felt for a moment whether I should continue to write in such a media where some riffraffs are using the most obscene language against people and personalities. While the main write-up is subject to approval based on the topic presented, there is no censor on the comments and replies where people write all rubbish and filth attacking in the vilest terms people and leaders whom they hate.
While we have every right to agree or disagree, the way in which criticisms are made makes me shudder with shame and contempt and I have a mind to quit the social media. This media have become the tool of those ugly elements to spew venom on people in the crudest and ugliest way possible. The misinformation and hate that is spread through media offsets the advantages it gives and helps to poison an entire community against another and this may ultimately spoil the slender harmony that is existing at present. I find more emotions and hatred in what they write than reasoning. It is unfortunate that today Tamil Nadu is governed by raw emotion in the name of rationality by rabid elements. Tamil Nadu needs to be saved from these evil hands before it is too late.

There is a mistaken notion among some that Hinduism survives ONLY because of Brahmins. With about 3% of the total population of the country, Hinduism could not have become the third largest religion in the world. The resilience and tolerance of the religion is what made it survive the vicissitudes of history. Whenever there was a crusade against Hinduism, the opponents believed that by killing Brahmins, the religion can be won over or destroyed, but it proved to be far from truth. In spite of the caste and other differences, how is it that it survives as one of the largest religions of the world is a million dollar question. The great or unique speciality of Hinduism is its catholicity of outlook and its ability to absorb within its fold the local customs and traditions of the people. It never fought a war against other religions, with very very few exceptions to establish itself only when challenged. It survives mostly because of the nonbrahmins who constitute the major chunk of its population. . Just go to Thirupathy and see. You will know who the majority of the people are who stand in long hours in mile long queues and who tonsure their heads as a propitiation for the God there. Even the poor among them contribute their mite by way of donation to the Lord. That will show that the religion is not the religion of the elites or the Brahmins as wrongly propagated, but a religion of the common man brought up for centuries in the Hindu tradition. It does not however mean that I am belittling the contribution of Brahmins, but it is only the others who give it the strength and the numbers. Unlike the Christians and Muslims, it never established itself over the cemetery of other religions, cultures and faiths.

As we celebrate Raksha Bandhan on August 7, 2017, it’s interesting to take cognizance of how more than a century ago, the concept and sentiment behind the festival was used to unite two communities, Hindus and Muslims.
Bengal was at its peak of nationalist movement at the dawn of 19th century, which eventually emerged as a formidable threat to the British Raj. To curb this nationalist movement, the Britishers decided to divide Bengal, a move vehemently opposed by various leaders of the time, including Rabindranath Tagore.
The decision was taken at a meeting between Lord Curzon and a Muslim delegation in Assam in June 1905, where the Muslims were convinced of the idea of a separate state to keep their identity. The plan was to divide the Hindu majority regions of West Bengal, Bihar and Odisha from Muslim-dominated areas of Assam and Sylhet.
The British government passed the orders of partition in August 1905, which came into effect on October 16 of the same year. However, the date fell in the month of Shravan, when the festival of Raksha Bandhan was celebrated by the Hindu community. Tagore deftly used the concept of brotherhood, togetherness and ‘the thread of protection’ as a medium to protest against British’s partition policy by showing a picture of unity among the two communities.
However IT WAS SHORT LIVED

There has been no difficulty for the Hindus to accept and respect other religions. Initially, even among Hindus there was a difference such as Saivites, Vaishnavites and so on, but great saints, Seers, Rishies and enlightened people from time to time repeatedly reminded the people that there is no difference between the various Gods worshipped by Hindus of various sects and all are but the different manifestation of the one and only Supreme Being. We all know how Adi Shankara amalgamated the six different systems of Hinduism prevailing during his period into one. Nowhere in Hinduism is a statement that THEIR WAY IS THE ONLY PATH THAT IS SUPERIOR to any other path. It succinctly believes and says that all paths lead to the same destination, like all rivers ultimately flowing into the ocean. Hinduism accepts even atheism as part of it saying that it is a step for theism only. It preaches no hatred towards any other religion and is willing to accept Islam and Christianity as paths leading to the same goal as Hinduism, with the only difference that IT DOES NOT BELIEVE IN PROSELYTISATION. This and this is its greatness as well as its weakness. Because of its greatness and tolerance, today we see the number of christians and muslims (whose ancestors were essentially Hindus) is growing year after year in our country. Only a few of their ancestors got converted out of conviction, but most have been compelled, coerced and enticed. Today to appeal to them, (but not compel them), to return to their parent religion is considered a sin, a disaster, a religious fanaticism, bigotry and what not. But Hindu fundamentalism is an OXYMORON.
If there are some overzealous people who want to react violently to whatever is happening to them, it is undesirable, but it is projected out of all proportions by the media and the pseudo secularists as Hindu fundamentalism or terrorism which is only a reaction against Hindu suppression practised all along by the pseudos. You can't expect people who are ignored, insulted and suppressed day in day out to remain passive all the time. Even a calf, when threatened will react. It is not violence; it is self protection in defence for which everyone has a right.

The latest medical controversy
All the while we were made to believe that high cholesterol is bad for health and may cause heart problems and what not.
"But today several scientific papers have proven that people with high so-called “bad” LDL cholesterol live the longest and there are now large number of findings that conclude that there is no need to lower cholesterol level in the body contradicting the lipid hypothesis." (this is based on a news paper report)
I am now confronted with the problem "to have (high cholesterol) or not to have (a high cholesterol)"
Medical science is contradicting itself so much, that I started believing that we live ONLY BY THE MERCY OF THE LORD in spite of mrdical treatments

Refusal on the part of private hospitals in Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram to admit an accident victim resulted in his tragic death, almost seven hours after the accident.
Police have registered the incident as a serious case of medical negligence and are charging a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against three private hospitals in Kollam and two hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram.
This seems to be a perennial phenomenon in our country. Many accident victims whose life could have been saved during the golden hour have died because of this attitude of private hospitals. Such hospitals should be charged for killing the patients wantonly, amounting to murder.

The confession of a Pakistani teenager who was captured moments before carrying out a suicide attack has given police a rare glimpse into a militant network they say is behind the recent surge in sectarian violence.
Usman's testimony, a copy of which has been seen by Reuters, describes a web of radical seminaries and training and bomb making facilities stretching from eastern Afghanistan, where the young man was recruited, to Pakistan's southern Sindh province.
Hundreds of people have been killed in attacks on Pakistan's Shia community.
Jihadis have targeted religious minorities for decades in Pakistan.
These jihadis are helping Islamic State spread its extremist agenda in South Asia.

Cigarette Butts
Trillions of cigarette butts are produced every year worldwide, with most discarded into the environment. They take ages to break down while their toxic chemical load is released into creeks, rivers and the ocean.
Now a team at RMIT University led by Dr Abbas Mohajerani has demonstrated that asphalt mixed with cigarette butts can handle heavy traffic and also reduce thermal conductivity. They could also be used as light weight building materials.
This means the product could not only solve a huge waste problem but would also be useful in reducing the urban heat island effect common in cities.
Cigarette butts are but a recyclable waste, but I consider cigarette itself is a deadly waste without which more lives could be recycled and saved

An RTI disclosure by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and 19 PSU banks, in June, had said they were not liable to damage to the locker contents by any cause, including fire or natural calamities.
Bank officials who did not want to be identified were of the view that burglary is beyond the security cover provided by a bank.
The Reserve Bank has asked banks to ensure customers' lockers remain safe and that there is "no negligence"
Banks are also being probed by CCI for alleged cartelisation

15 golden rules of Swami Vivekananda
Those who’ve got the chance to read Swami Vivekananda’s ideologies on Life, Death and Hinduism, can only imagine the goose bumping experience of those, who’ve had the honor to see & hear him live during his lectures.
Sometime back, I got my hands on one of Swami Vivekananda’s lectures that he gave in Oakland, back in March 1900 (in his final years), and couldn’t stop myself from sharing the brilliant insight on how a man must live his life by these 15 Golden Rules…
#1. Love Is The Law Of Life:
All love is expansion, all selfishness is contraction. Love is therefore the only law of life. He who loves, lives; he who is selfish, is dying. Therefore, love for love's sake, because it is law of life, just as you breathe to live.
#2. It's Your Outlook That Matters:
It is our own mental attitude that makes the world what it is for us. Our thoughts make things beautiful; our thoughts make things ugly. The whole world is in our own minds. Learn to see things in the proper light.
#3. Life is Beautiful:
First, believe in this world--that there is meaning behind everything. Everything in the world is good, is holy and beautiful.
If you see something evil, interpret it to mean that you do not yet understand it in the right light. Throw the burden on yourselves!
#4. It's The Way You Feel:
Feel like Christ and you will be a Christ; feel like Buddha and you will be a Buddha. It is feeling that is the life, the strength, the vitality--without which no amount of intellectual activity can reach God.
#5. Set Yourself Free:
The moment I have realized God sitting in the temple of every human body, the moment I stand in reverence before every human being and see God in him--that moment I am free from bondage, everything that binds vanishes, and I am free.
#6. Don't Play The Blame Game: Condemn none:
If you can stretch out a helping hand, do so. If you cannot, fold your hands, bless your brothers and let them go their own way.
#7. Help Others:
If money helps a man to do good to others, it is of some value; but if not, it is simply a mass of evil, and the sooner it is got rid of, the better.
#8. Uphold Your Ideals:
Our duty is to encourage every one in his struggle to live up to his own highest ideal, and strive at the same time to make the ideal as near as possible to the Truth.
#9. Listen To Your Soul:
You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.
#10. Be Yourself:
The greatest religion is to be true to your own nature. Have faith in yourselves!
#11. Nothing Is Impossible:
Never think there is anything impossible for the soul. It is the greatest heresy to think so. If there is sin, this is the only sin--to say that you are weak, or others are weak.
#12. You Have The Power:
All the powers in the universe are already ours. It is we who have put our hands before our eyes and cry that it is dark.
#13. Learn Every Day:
The goal of mankind is knowledge. . . now this knowledge is inherent in man. No knowledge comes from outside: it is all inside. What we say a man 'knows,' should, in strict psychological language, be what he 'discovers' or 'unveils;' what man 'learns' is really what he discovers by taking the cover off his own soul, which is a mine of infinite knowledge.
#14. Be Truthful:
Everything can be sacrificed for truth, but truth cannot be sacrificed for anything.
#15. Think Different:
All differences in this world are of degree, and not of kind, because oneness is the secret of everything.

There is a misleading propaganda by certain self styled rationalists against Hinduism which has already done enough damage to our religion for over a century. This needs to be countered in time but the people among Hindus most affected, namely the Brahmins have failed to contain this mischievous propaganda in time and other Hindus not only failed to stop this, but took advantage of the division and hatred created by this group irrespective of their party affiliations.
You can't expect a man who is threatened of his life to remain passive and die a quiet death. Definitely there will be a reaction from him and it is no use blaming him for such reaction. Even a calf, when threatened will try to knock you down. It is not violence; it is self protection for which everyone has a right. Self defence is a human birthright approved by everyone all over the world, including Bhagavad Gita and Gandhiji himself who once said that when the honour of a girl is threatened, she has a right to kill the rapist to save herself. Now when the wounded starts reacting, the causative culprits are criticising and abusing them. Hinduism, known for its tolerance has reached a stage where it has been forced to enter into the process of self defence which is definitely not to the liking of pseudos and other religionists. However our REACTION MUST BE TO SAVE OUR RELIGION WITHOUT OFFENDING OTHERS AS FAR AS POSSIBLE. If Hindus have started reacting, it is only the making of these rabid anti Hindu elements supported by politicians in the name of pseudo secularism and rationalism for their survival. Today there is an awakening among the Hindus and proper direction by Hindu religious and leaders is necessary to direct them to safeguard the religion. That does not however mean that we have to be violent. In some cases violence has to be suppressed by violence only, but that is not always the case. I do not support the lynching of people by Gau Rakshak
and beef beaters. It is a misplaced reaction without understanding the ethics and morals of our religion. Such acts should be condemned outright. And the oppositions reaction against Hinduism and its policy of appeasement, insulting, injuring and inflicting destruction of the majority also deserves an equal degree of vehement condemnation. Let us save Hinduism from aggression from outside and incursions from inside

I have my own reservations about reservations.
Reservation was introduced with a good intention of uplifting the downtrodden and it was supposed to be for 50 years only, but it has become a permanent feature in the country. It was said to be 50% for all the downtrodden, including the SCs and STs, but it has exceeded 50% in some states and is 69% in Tamil Nadu. No party in the country will undo it. Today 95% of the communities come under this category except Brahmins and a few of Chettiars, Mudaliars and so on who constitute the remaining percentage. More and more communities are fighting for reservation. All well to do BCs and MBCs enjoy this reservation, while the poorest FC is denied this benefit. Many people are under the mistaken notion that the unreserved percentage is meant for Forward Communities which is wrong. It is for OCs which does not mean Other Communities, but for Open Competition to which all are eligible irrespective of their community. Day by day, the demand for inclusion under backward and most backward classes is on the increase and India is the only country in the world where people vie with each other to be termed backward and most backward and the so called forwards shun being called forward. It was claimed that caste is an evil force in the country and should be done away with. But with reservations, castes have become permanent and today, the country is more caste conscious than it was ever before. Political parties thrive on castes and extreme casteism. There is no POSSIBILITY OF RESERVATIONS BEING DONE AWAY WITH EVEN IN THE DISTANT FUTURE. IT HAS BECOME AN EVIL TO REPLACE THE OTHER EVIL, NAMELY THE CASTE EVIL.
THUS RESERVATION HAS COME TO STAY FOR THE PRESERVATION OF THE MUCH MALIGNED CASTE SYSTEM.
To escape from the evils of casteism, people were enticed to get converted to either christianity or to Islam, but after conversion too, they are claimed to be SC christians or SC muslims and on that plea, they want reservation. Thus the Christian missionaries and the Islamic clerics want to use the money so saved or obtained for further conversion of people.
Any law or tax temporarily introduced to tide over an emergency is made permanent and never withdrawn.
Kashmir was given a special status for a temporary period, but it has become almost a permanent affair.
Thus our politicians act for instant benefits without bothering about the long term implication of the problem. So we seem to have only politicians and no statesmen.
