Woes of Indian Air Travel

Life is getting complicated for indians travelling by air in domestic airlines.

Ethopian Boeing crash and financial issues facing Jet airlines has made travel difficult for air passengers.

Flights of jet airlines getting cancelled and increase in fares of other airlines on that account has made travel costlier.

There is an increase of about 20% in long distance flights between metros.

Flights for next day is about 30-40% higher.

Air india is flying with over 90% load factor.

Budget airlines are not low cost anymore.

Govt is trying to help out Jet airlines by offering grounded Jet airline planes to Spice jet and Tata.

It is not known in whose interest it is?

The same concern they did not show to debt ridden farmers committing suicide or small industries facing closure due to

govt policies.

It appears that elite airlines are more important for the govt.

They are offering explanation that airline employees may lose jobs due to closure of Jet airway planes.

Transportation should be handled by Govt only, irrespective of mode - sea, air, road, rail with minimum manpower and utilization of latest technology to the maximum.

Privatization of Trasport never yields the desired results.

The same concern they did not show to debt ridden farmers committing suicide or small industries facing closure due to

govt policies.

Spot on ! And this is precisely what we are trying to explain to the right wingers without success.

But they want to keep pointing to the victim or siege mentality, my leader is being unfairly targetted.

Please help the farmers and the jobless with key policies, I will be the first to support this govt !!

Lot of people in my close family and friend circles are yet to get their refund from Jet Airaways cancellation . The Airline Industry is in a big chaos right now and it will have a ripple effect on the economy if people do not travel by air . Being frustrated with the way things are going chaotic in airline Industry , many are opting for Train Travel . Small , Medium Business men who were travelling frequently in Low Cost Airlines have been highly hit .Hope so the crisis is over by Holiday season otherwise it will severely affect the Tourism Industry in the coming Summer Holiday season

One of my relatives got hurt and had to rebook singapore delhi by some other airline on account of jet

airways cancellation. The person was travelling to attend a marriage in delhi.

I have to rethink my strategy for my travel in may middle. to bangalore/chennai.

Airfares are high [atleast Rs 6500 on any budget airlineor air india.]

Normally it is Rs 3500 if booked more than 45 days in advance.

Air india is the market leader.Others follow and keep their fares about 500 to 1000 less.

I would not like to travel by train long distance .It is OK for 5 or 6 hrs travel

Shares of spicejet has gone up by 15% due to jet airways crisis. They operate similar boeings as jet airways.

Only air travellers are badly hurt.

Jet airlines pilots are being picked up cheap by other airlines. They have not been paid salaries for last three

months. They have no bargaining power.

Naresh Goel will get away scot free inspite of mismanagement..

Mallya got into a mess by buying air deccan planes . His desires to grow big fast lead to his downfall.

He got punished more for his flamboyant lifestyle .

In india it does not pay if one is open about his lifestyle and lives life big

If he had been discreet nothing would have happened to him either

One can roll in millions and act poor and humble, and no one would raise a finger if he has friends in the right

places.Lol

Is Paramount dead?

Those with small fleet are very vulnerable.

At election time helicopters and small planes are sought after by political parties.

They are pre booked for weeks by national parties for their leaders campaigning.

They are also accident prone.

Many of them take risk and fly in bad weather .

Some leaders lose their lives in these accidents every election.

I never try to take small planes .

Air india is very safe.

Their pilots do not fly even if there is a very small doubt about air worthiness.

Indigo flies these small turbo props on short haul flights.

Best is vistara in domestic sectors.

Only timings are early in morning and reach late in evenings.

In winter thats a nuisancefor senior citizens who prefer day flights on working days .

Best days are tuedays as many south indians keep away from it and it is less crowded besides lower fares

Jet airlines pilots flying small jetlite planes- from kerala or tamilnadu prefer to join airindia express as they can

be closer to their native place

Others with Boeing express prefer spicejet as they have similar planes and they can be airborne with minimal

retraining

While civil aviation officials are struggling to keep jet airlines afloat as money of nationalised bank are stuck

due to investing in jet airlines . they have better chances of recovery if they find a suitor who will take over jet

airlines

Govt"s concern is 25000 employees employed directly and otherwise getting affected by jet airways

grounding its fleet, it has implications for govt facing elections shortly.

Agree with many of the earlier posts, excellent analysis and inputs,

To add to the above, the govt should allow jet airways to fall if they cannot secure private funding. Asking PSU banks to fund a failing airline will only lead to more NPAs.

The best option is to allow foreign airlines into india with 100% ownership, and they can a mange this better as they will have global scale. So loss in one subsidiary can be offset by other countries profits.

And this would also saved jet airways, as the foreign airlines would have bought local airlines to get a foothold.

The weakness of this govt is failure of policies as Arun Shourie said way back !!!

hi

many success in airlines in india ONLY for short term....when deccan airlines time...every body expected

more....i think may be indigo may survive for long term....not any other airlines....including Air india will

fall...

hi

i heard vistara is best and doing well...

hi

i just got in my email from jet airways Mr Naresh Goyal....

For the past 25 years, Jet Airways has been a way of life for me. Very few people are fortunate enough to live their dreams and I have been truly blessed to be one among those few.
My dream started out as the simple yearning of a simple man, a desire to bring the joy of flying to every Indian. Two and a half decades later, what Jet Airways has achieved in no small measure far exceeds anything I dared to imagine back then; thanks to your continued patronage and loyalty as our valued JetPrivilege member.
I have watched with pride as our JetPrivilege family has grown to over nine million strong members in 2019, in tandem with our fleet of 124 aircraft connecting to over 550 destinations worldwide. We grew together with our JetPrivilege family, connecting the length and breadth of India at a time when flying was still considered a luxury in our country, growing to become India’s premiere full-service airline.
This has all been possible largely because of your unstinted support, guiding us to set guest-service benchmarks to the envy of our competitors and helping us realise our dream of emerging as a global gold standard of warm Indian hospitality.
Jet Airways as you all know has truly been a labour of love and looking back, I would not want to change a thing. Thank you for your free and frank feedback which has helped Jet Airways emerge as the airline of choice across both domestic and international skies.
Today, as I ponder on the past and look to the future, I do realise that there must come a day when the torch that we have carried all this while, will need to be passed on. And there is no better time than the present. I would like to humbly and with immense gratitude, inform you that both Mrs. Goyal and I are stepping down from the Board of Directors of Jet Airways with immediate effect.
Our airline, today, stands poised to turn the page, ready to fly out from the turbulence of recent months and soar forth into a bright new future. Our shareholders have approved the Bank-led Resolution Plan (BLRP), which marks a definitive step in our efforts to guide Jet Airways onto a sounder and sustainable financial footing. There is light at the end of the tunnel and that is why I feel; the time is now right for us to hand over the reins of your preferred airline to a new generation of leaders that I am certain will take Jet Airways to even greater heights.
I would be lying, if I said this was not an emotional moment for me. Jet Airways, its employees both past and present, shareholders, partners, regulators, and most importantly you our JetPrivilege members, are our family and there is no sacrifice I would not make to ensure the best interests of our Jet Airways family are safely secured. I have not come to this decision lightly but this is not the end of the journey, rather it is the start of a brand new chapter. I remain committed to seeing Jet Airways embark on a dynamic new chapter and I am certain, that the new generation of leaders will be able to count on your continued support in the months and years ahead.
Our teams at Jet Airways have been continuously striving to deliver a superior guest experience, which has been our key differentiator. I can assure you on their behalf that they will continue to deliver the world-class service that you have come to expect from them.
Thank you once again for your continued patronage and loyalty through the many years.
Most sincerely,
Naresh Goyal

Now that nationalised bank SBI leading the consortium of lenders have taken over, jet airlines will go the air

india way. They will try to find a suitor from india for the airline . I do not know any philanthropic

businessman will take over the airline. Else the indian tax payer will be stuck with the airline.

I do not understand the logic why always govt is over keen to take over bankrupt companies using public

money. Bad businesses should be allowed to close down. There is no sense in throwing good public money

after bad assets. We need to have good bankruptcy laws to enable closure and liquidation of the loss making

companies.

Something is seriously wrong with our aviation policy . These policy makers should be shown the door first.

The airlines try to grow fast adding more planes and airline sectors to fly . They offer uncompetitive fares.

What was first started by Gopinath with deccan airlines offering cheap fares not covering costs has lead to

budget airlines following suit. All want to fly the same metro sectors outbidding each other and piling up

losses. Later on they want tax payer doles to save them.Kingfisher earlier folded up .Now jet airlines.

Aviation policies need a relook.
