Mr.P.Chidambaram.

Dear Sri"Yamaka",

It is common knowledge that Mr.P.Chidambaram is not liked by many people inside and outside his own party, due to his attitude towards others.

It was Dr.Subramaniam Swami who had filed a case against Mr.Chidambaram in Supreme Court in 2G case. Similarly it was the news media CNN-IBN which had exposed on Wednesday how the Union Home Minister acted in conflict of interest while withdrawing criminal cases against the owner of the Metropolitan Hotel in the national capital. These are the reasons for which BJP and Left ask for HM's resignation.

This reminds me of Dr.R.K.Shanmukam Chetty who was made the first Finance Minister of Independent India who had presented its first budget. He had to resign shortly. He was asked to resign by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the Prime Minister of India due to a minor dereliction of duty by a subordinate official, so as to ensure probity. Similarly an able FM T.T.Krishnamachari had to resign in Mundra Affair in 1958. Mr. T.T.K. has stated that he had to 'resign' to maintain high traditions.

Compare these to the present day reluctance of the Prime Minister to ask the tainted Ministers to leave. Even in the case of 2G scam it was the Supreme Court which had forced the tainted Minister to quit.

"The Hindu" is a "Secular" (anti BJP) newspaper under a so called "leftist" editor. "The Hindu" article is more of wishful thinking by mixing-up the news with "Hindutva".

Brahmanyan,

So do we expect BJP (an opposition party with aspirations) to like someone in ruling party?

It is like expecting newt Gingrich to praise Obama, before next election. It is politics as usual.

Dear Brahmanyan Sir:

I agree the politics was quite different those days: I remember Lal Bahadur Sastri immediately resigned as the Union Minister of Railways soon after the Dhanuskodi Express Tragedy on Pamban Bridge - there it was the very poor weather and the carelessness of the Station Master that caused that Tragedy, the Union Minister was no way connected to that!

Those days are gone!

Now, here in the US and India, politics is very dirty.. For anything and everything the Opposition shuts down the Parliament by rioting in the wells. Here US Senate can't function because of the 60% votes needed for "Cloture".

In both cases the practices may be totally Unconstitutional. Someone should go to the Supreme Court to clarify.

I used to read The Hindu for a long time since 1967: most times I like the paper and their editorials..

In the present case with PC: I believe the Opposition can't demand his resignation.. they just can't force the issue.. they can show all their anger during the 2014 National Election.

I strongly believe that the Elected MPs must work diligently overtime in the Parliament to govern the Country, and make the Govt better everyday..

They can play politics during the Election Year, not every year. Just a thought!

Regards.

Parliamentary boycott 'discipline' was started by congress when fernandaz was the defence minister in nda regime. Now they are getting the taste of their own medicine.

As in tamilnadu, rioting mps can be thrown out of the house by the marshals. Congress is afraid to do that because it will backfire on them in other states and perhaps in future parliaments as well. As in 'yes minister' bbc tv serial, one can say 'mps come in the way off smooth running of the parliament'. (original: patients will come in the way of smooth running of the hospital).

It was once thougt showing parliament live on tv, will force the mps to behave; but the outcome is - all mps have become action heroes; soon we will see imitations of their favourite stars.

The culture and composition of first free India's ministers were different from today and today's GOM are prisoners of a clique. PC may not actually be a man what others portrait. But he is into it. He is certainly not a rat to escape through the net. No sane man would accept a ministerial position nor a corporator's because both will involve you in same peril. That is the world today. Scapegoats are sacrificed only in the inevitable end.

I understand that a FIR can be registered by anybody on anybody... with good or illegitimate reason(s).

There is no "barrier to" discourage bogus charges in any local police station.

In this case, Delhi police registered a FIR because someone complained about that hotelier..who believes that it was a "bogus" charge, and the FIR is frivolous.

Hotelier complained to the Home Ministry for redress, and was under Review.

PC says when it came to his attention, he did NOT want the Ministry to do anything on this matter.

He contends some one in his Ministry has written to the Delhi Govt HIS view on this matter (although he mentioned PC's name also) which is totally illegal.

Now, my question is HOW is PC responsible to this? Only that particular official in Home Ministry is responsible for this affair!

Why didn't BJP think thru this way? Because they WANT PC's big head! LOL :)

Cheers.

But is it not the duty of HM to seek answer from the "some one" to clear himself or throw light on the forces working independently.

More trouble for Chidambaram. He had a role to play in the financial approval of contracts awarded in the commonwealth games.

Arjun Singh's (late) letter to MMS on 26 Jan 2005.
" . . . a consensus on all issues related to the CWG was reached in the presence of the Hon'ble congress president, smt sonia gandhi . . . A three member sub committee of the group of ministers, headed by the finace minister, shri chidambaram will supervise and deal with all financial matters. The other members of the committee will be decided by the GOM . . ."

The columnist is raising the question why sonia gandhi was present at the meeting of GOM for an issue that was purely in the domain of the cabinet.

If mani sankar iyer opens up more dirt can come out!
