Jamadagni Gotram, which traces its lineage to the sage Jamadagni, one of the revered Saptarishis (seven great sages) in our tradition. Jamadagni was supposed to be a descendant of Sage Bhrigu and is known for his wisdom and austerity. He is also considered the father of Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu.

I was unaware that a gothram could have a "main deity" and was under the presumption that it only denotes familial links and the sampradayam decides. Could anyone kindly clarify regarding the same?
