‘Tatkal’ passport to be issued from main office from Aug 17
CHENNAI: Applicants filing for passport under the 'tatkal' category have to go to the regional passport office in Rayala Towers on Anna Salai from August 17. Such applications will not be accepted at the three passport seva kendras functioning in Tambaram, Saligramam and Nelson Manickam Road thereafter.
Regional passport officer K Balamurugan said the new system has been introduced to decongest the passport seva kendras which were getting crowded.
The authorities have also provided another cushion. Applications that are rejected under the 'tatkal' mode can apply with the same application under normal mode at the Saligramam passport seva kendra between 2pm and 4pm on all days except Mondays. The applicant can do so without obtaining any appointment, Balamurugan said.
