..Then came the Indo-Pak war. We had compulsory black-outs but from the predominantly Muslim neighbourhoods, we could see everyday powerful searchlights beaming all 360 degrees across the sky, in the hope of aiding the enemy aircraft.
Sangom sir, this could have been a handiwork of a handful of miscreants, I would be hesitant to suspect an entire community. I found an interesting discussion on whether Indian Muslims support Pakistan here, not that it is proof of anything, but a glimpse of what few others think, interesting.

This aspect of Muslims feeling alienated and claiming to be distinct from India, is an endemic for India. The Hindutva-based parties do try to make capital out of this,
Yes sir, I agree, the whole reason raison d'etre of Hindutva parties is to create religious division and fear, and then exploit it for political gain. They are the primary reason for the continuing suspicion of each other by ordinary Hindus and ordinary Muslims.

Cheers!

Shri Nara,

I agree it could have been some mischief mongers' wotk but the community as a whole did not do anything to stop it for a number of days. So, even if one gives the benefit of doubt, it cannot be said that the community was against it.

Sangom sir, perhaps they were fearful of confronting the anti-national elements, and probably they were the ones who helped the authorities identify and round up these miscreants, are you sure this did not happen?

In any case, questioning the loyalty of an entire group, within which there is lot of diversity, is not a good thing, IMO.

Cheers!

Recently I read(I do not recollect the source) that the core group who demanded partition of the country on the basis of religion continue to remain in India mostly in Bihar and UP.The majority of Muslims living in the present Pakistan portion of India did not demand partition.
I also read a message from a prominent religious leader of Shia sect of Muslims in India
that importing 'Wahabhi brand of Islam' to Asian countries(Mainly India)is not good.
I got some photos of recent agitation by followers of Islam in London. The slogans written on the placards carried by the mob speak volumes about the peacefulness of the agitators and reveal the

real intention of their Leaders..After seeing the pictures I really felt sorry and helpness for the future generations of followers of 'Hinduism' throughout the world.
While the general masses of followers of Islam may be peace loving people, the intentions of the religious and political leaders of Islam seem otherwise. It looks as if they desire to be the rulers of all countries in the world and all the people should follow only their faith. They are brainwashing their followers to achieve their dream.

namaste, violence and non violence are the same. Both of them are means adopted by one party to get something from another party ((or more). The minimum that one party (A) may want from another party (B) is TIME belonging to B. This time and attention if and when given by B may be used by A to get more from B.

If B knows this and simply runs away A has no chance to get B's Time and violence or non violence to follow - B is acting most intelligently - B avoids getting hurt by not putting himself in positions to be hurt.

The minimum that one party (A) may want from another party (B) is TIME belonging to B - Why does Party A want anything and least of all Time belonging to B. Does he not have it himself. A has it - He thinks erroneously that it is a free commodity that party C - the [deva] give everybody. He does not realize often enough he is paying for it with his life. Now B that instinctively or with great thought removes himself from the scene knows that it is not wisdom to waste time to think and think and analyze the type of shoes party A is wearing when his teeth are being kicked in. He is paying the [deva] for his teeth too with his life.

All sort of problems crop up when there is no space for A and B to be apart. In retrospection, Mahatma Gandhi saw truths and wisdom that Britain and India cannot co-exist and they must live in different spaces. The wisest thing to do was to use the non violent method to obtain Time from the British and ask them to leave. And Britain left, because they became weak. The so called weakness and non-violence worked. Will it work at all times and places? Who knows? Only Time can tell - And it appears we all are paying for it with our lives and praying we have more.
