we read that Telangana government just spent 80,000 crores to construct kaleshwaram project to provide drinking and irrigation water to whole telangana, Do you know how much it received from centre ..Zero. It is also constructing 2 dedicated reservoirs for hyderabad water supply and because of these efforts even with little rainfall in hyderabad there is no water crisis.

Modi when he was gujarat chief minister he revived a river and provided drinking water to whole gujarat with little to no help from the central government.

If these states stopped blaming their crisis on centre and held accountable the state administration then tamilians who boast of highest urban state in India should hold accountable only the state governments & not the centre . Reasoning says to stop blaming centre for your issues and start questioning all parties.
moreover tamil nadu did not vote at all for the party ruling at Center [to blame ] and they should find it logical not to ask the Center but obvioulsy should question only whom they have voted and elected .
neverthless we learn that mr Gadgari is working out mega plan sourcing narmada/godavari and action is on on full scale to cater to tamilnadu thus doing a positive step to alleviate water issue to Chennai /tamilnadu. Soon we should hear good news on that score .

Agree the local state govt should take responsibility. However centre also bears equal responsibility, even if TN did not vote for them. Once voted, centre should work for all states not just for their own ruled states,

On the river interlinking project, it was on the agenda of the centre in 2014, nothing, absolutely nothing happened. So nothing will happen this term as well.

The river interlinking project is so complex and huge, it is beyond the ability of this govt to bring this to fruition. Look at the river Ganges, it is an absolute mess with any and all sewage flowing int it.

If they cannot clean one river, it is impossible for them to interlink multiple rivers and bring water to chennai !!

They can maybe build some toilets at best, even this is highly doubtful, as I never saw any whatsapp videos of the toilets built by this govt. I mean, this is a whatsapp govt after all !! LOL.

I agree Sir,

It is Tamil Nadu Government that is wholly responsible.

It has become habit of this Forum's biased minds to blame the Central Government for everything and anything without knowing the ground reality.

I think there are also other causes to this crisis.

How many of public voted for MLAs on merit basis...?
How many of public voted after receiving cash..?
And there is a Section who never bothers to vote..!!!
How many of public have encroached water bodies..?
How many of public have an effective and functioning Rain Water harvesting system in their house ..?

And above all saving water is everyone's responsibility
What are the efforts taken by every individual to conserve water..I mean to save water..??
We talk more about cinemas.... TV serials.... Social Medias, political developments, etc

Mos of us are NOT concerned about Water management.

Perhaps this may be also due to 'Let us cross the bridge when we come to it'... attitude.

I am sharing few write up on this topic hope will throw more light on the topic:

Seven reasons why Chennai should have seen this water crisis coming

Long queues of women and men waiting for their turn at the tanker; schools forced to shut down due to water shortage; companies asking employees to work from home and even patients in hospitals bearing the brunt of water shortage — these are not scenes from any dystopian novel or movie. This is the reality Chennai is living today. The situation gets worse by the day as the city finds itself in the grip of another spell of widespread and acute water shortage.

The issue of water shortage is blown out of proportion.

If monsoons get delayed or is inadequate , reservoirs do not fill up or ground water does not get replenished, there is hue and cry.

After a few days it gets forgotten and people move on.

Water tanker mafias make a killing in this period.

In hotels it is business as usual. Lot of water is used up in bath rooms and drinking water bottled is available.

Though occupancy gets reduced a bit ,it is business as usual.

This time railways transported water to chennai.

I am skeptical about any politician finding a solution to this issue .
