Upanayanam for my Aunt's Son - Can I perform?

Hi,

I am a Vadakalai Iyengar just in case it helps to answer this question.

My Aunt (Athai) who is my father's younger sister is interested in performing upanayanam for her son. She lost her husband (my Athimber) in an accident 5 years back.

Since my mom also expired (my Dad is alive), there are no couple (Thampathi) to perform the upanayanam for my aunt's son.

My question is, since my aunt and her son have moved to a different gothram (my athimber's gothram), is it correct for me to perform the upanayanam for their son? Do I have the authority to do that and are there any restrictions or effects of me doing it?

I have my own son who is only 6 years old, so I intend to do Upanayanam for my own son, after 2 years.

Does performing Upanayanam for others' son equate to adopting them? Please advise

Hi ,

Per my opinion , Try to see if any brothers or perippa or chittappa or their sons exists . If no one exists then only you can do. It is not equating to adoption.
