I think sometimes raaga varamu is also known as sudha hindolam. Please correct me if I am wrong. This year (during Thyagaraja Aradhana Concert in our town) artists sang sudha hindolam in their raaga maliga ragams.

This rAgam is could be called Misra Thilang, because it is Thilang added with shatsruthi rishabam.

The new generation artists may name this as Suddha HindhOLam.

The stanza 'kannaththil muththamittAl' in the popular song 'chinnanjchiru kiLiyE' is Misra Thilang;

but some new generation artists announce it as Suddha HindhOLam.

Chithoor Subramaniya Pillai school sings HindhOLam with chathusruthi dhaivatham D2.

This is later known as Varamu.

But in the song I posted earlier by Smt. M S S Manasuloni by MS Subbulakshmi - YouTube

the rAgam Varamu is announced as Suddha Hindolam!!

Results:

1. Varamu = Suddha HindhOLam

2. Misra Thilang = Suddha HindhOLam
BUT, Varamu is NOT equal to Misra Thilang!! :faint:

Result 3 is derived because two different rAgams are called Suddha HindhOLam!

Varamu ..... S G1 M1 D2 N1 S. - S. N1 D2 M1 G1 S

Thilang ..... S G2 M1 P N2 S. - S. N1 P M1 G2 S (Shanthi nilava vEndum and Sri GanEsha charaNam)

If Shatsruthi rishabam (swaram G1 - the NAttai RAga rishabam) is added to Thilang, it can be named as Misra Thilang.

I do not know whether the leading musicians will agree to this or not! :noidea:
