A proverb a day to brighten the day!

593b. Wealth without wisdom is like beauty without virtue.

A fool and his wealth are soon parted.
Wealth is put to good use only by those with wisdom.

Wealth without wisdom is like a woman without virtue.
Wealth without wisdom is like a flower without fragrance.

footnotes;
Reichtum = Wealth
ohne = without
Weisheit = wisdom
ist = is
wie = like
Schönheit = beauty
ohne = without
Tugend = virtue.

Something...Something!

Something unbelievable happened when a rich old man left his mansion to his nephew.
The nephew and his son visit the mansion - before deciding when and whether to move in there.

The son, an eight year old smart boy, feels cared and insecure in the huge old mansion.
There is dust everywhere and on the massive furnitures of the olden days.

There is not enough light and the whole place reeks of mold.
There hangs a huge chandelier in the middle of the living room.

When the boy tries to switch it on, sparks come out of the walls. And the chandelier comes off from the fixtures, landing almost on top of his father!

They go upstairs hoping that they may feel safer there. But the whole place is filled with birds which enter and exit through a hole on the roof. And those nests and chicks!

The father is happy to see the oversized bathtub and jumps into it. The floor below gives way. The father along with the bathtub falls through the floor into the room below.

The little fellow gets scared out of his wits. He is happy to find out that his father has survived the fall without any fractures or serious injuries.

They decide to go back to their own smaller but safer apartment. Something dawns on the father suddenly . He tells his son,

"I always thought that my uncle hated me. I was surprised when he left me this house. But everything falls in its place now. It is his way of punishing me!"

Something given as a gift can bring more harm than good, if that someone had something against that someone, to whom he had gifted something! Ha! ha!

Reciting rAma nAmA will remove all problems.
Why recite words which we don't understand?
Why recite words whose pronunciation we may not know.
Sri rAma jaya rAma jaya jaya rAma is the best prayer!

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

594a. Weder Sieg noch Niederlage sind von Dauer.

594b. Neither victory nor defeat is permanent.

Nothing is permanent in Life.
Everything changes with Time.

Just like every point on a wheel is at the topmost point and at the bottom most point alternately, everything in life changes from the best to the worst, from the highest to the lowest, from riches to poverty and from victory to defeat.

footnotes:
Weder = Neither
Sieg = Victory
noch = nor
Niederlage = defeat
sind = are
von Dauer = for ever

Something...Something!

That gigantic fridge went on a lightning strike.
Everything has its limits and it allocated capacity.
When Stressed / stretched beyond that limit something snaps!

Life became difficult since we have learned now to live in a new style.
Food HAD to be cooked at least twice a day and HAD to be eaten fresh.
I will never complain if 'I have to eat fresh food' but some others may.

Cooking food and eating them fresh were what
the whole word was doing till very recently.

I will never get used to eating the food days old and NOT just hours old.
The Old system of eating fresh, simple and healthy food had its own merits!

Thank you Madam, I do Rama nama japa on Ekadashi days,
I shall look up your Sanskrit -Tamil dictionary for this.
Wish you well and Namaskars.

Sir,
You have given the second line of 53rd verse and the first line of verse 54 as far as I can see. Here are the verses in Devanagiri script.

Now google searching for the meaning can be done by anyone who is interested.

The introduction to this blog of 216 Tamil poems and their stories in English.
Incidentally this happens to my very first blog since I thought I had something to share.

அன்றே கண்டு கொண்ட என் தந்தை டாக்டர் ராமனுக்கும்;

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

595b. Spending without earning cannot last for long.

Nothing amassed by man is infinite or inexhaustible.
Sooner or later it will all be spent ...
unless we keep on adding more to it!

footnotes:
Ausgeben = Spending
ohne = without
zu verdienen = earning
kann = can
nicht = not
dauern = last
lange = for long.

Something...Something!

Some things never change with time.
Some things should never change with time.

"Please" cannot be replaced by any other fancy word.
"Thank you" can not replaced by a more magical word.
"I love you" can not be replaced by a more sincere word.

Courtesy and culture do not change with time.
Customs may but courtesy remains the same.

Respect for elders does not change with time
Gratitude for others does not change wit time.

In other words the basic human values remain the same all over the world at all times.
Calling people who are courteous and courageous as old fashioned in sheer nonsense.

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

596a.
Kein Geld zu zahlen!
Kein Essen zu essen!

596b.
No money to pay!
No food to eat!

footnotes:
Kein = NO
Geld = money
zu = to
zahlen = pay!
Kein = No
Essen = food
zu = to
essen = eat!

Something...Something!

There are two distinct group of people everywhere in everything.
Half the population is always worried about its good (?) health.
The other half never bother about its bad health - until it can't be ignored anymore.

I had a neighbor an old gentleman who just dropped dead near the bathroom door in the middle of a night. His good wife go worried that he did not come back from the toilet.

She got the shock of her life seeing him lying lifeless near the bathroom.
Both of these are equally bad - though in in different ways and for different reasons.

The creaking door get lubricated. When something starts creaking it is better to attend to it than let it alter one's beautiful life to one's ugly death.

The introduction to My second blog of English articles
which were prepared for The Young world of The Hindu.

The world we live in, is filled with marvelous things, both God-made and man-made. If we retain our childlike curiosity, we can still wonder at hundreds of things around us.

I try to admire these and want you too to do so. So this is just an attempt to impress you with what impressed me in the first place.

I have written articles on 261 topics under 18 different subheadings-so that every one is sure to find something interesting to read!

Happy reading! Send back your comments and suggestions!

#01. An Introduction

The first of its kind.

Necessity is the mother of invention. Modesty also at times becomes the mother of invention-as in the case of the stethoscope.Nothing was invented and perfected at the same time.

So when we take a look at the original versions of the various inventions, we can’t help admiring and registering how much they have been improved to get the current versions!

Human mind can think only in steps and not in leaps and bounds! So every practical problem will be set right giving the next improved product. This goes on and on!

Well, this is not the end either! The future will have much more improvised products for the convenience of the people.

In this blog let us take a look at what made these inventions and discoveries necessary and how they have evolved over the time.

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

597a. Faulheit ist der sicherste Weg zur Armut.

597b. Laziness is the surest path leading to poverty.

The earth is a treasure house of wealth of every kind.
If a man is lazy and poor, he has none to blame but himself.

footnotes:
Faulheit = Laziness
ist = is
der = the
sicherste = surest
Weg = path
zur = leading to
Armut = poverty

Something....Something!

Something out of the ordinary is a terrible warning issued by the human body.
Most of us tend to ignore them and put off the diagnosis and treatment ALAP!

Two people in the family circle have come down to half their original & normal weight.
It could not have happened overnight on in a matter of a few days or even weeks.

Instead of finding what had gone wrong, they both chose to ignore the problem until it has become impossible to be treated and cured.

Human body speaks a silent language. It sends out signals whenever something is wrong. It is wisdom to be alert, listen to the warning and do what is necessary ASAP!

My dear younger sister Smt. RAJI RAM is taking great efforts to add 20 more new songs and 5 more varNams to the blog on
"Selected compositions of Sri K. R. Narayanan" (our paternal grandfather)

Those songs will be added to the existing blog of 50 songs
https://haridasanarayanan.wordpress.com/
They will also be posted in the forum at regular interval.

We were planning to get everything ready by mid August. But there is unforeseen delay The songs must appear here and in the blog before Dasara for sure. 🙏

#02. An Introduction

SPIRIT AND SUCCESS

Geniuses are few and far between! It has been already proved that genes have nothing to do with genes. Even the home atmosphere may or may not contribute the achievements of a person.

Surprisingly even physical challenges and mental disabilities did not seem to dampen their spirit to succeed!

An ordinary man may accept his lot, wallow in self pity, demand sympathy from everyone in his circle and become a parasite for life.

But those persons were determined to win in spite of every physical challenge and restriction placed on them by the cruel hands of Fate.

In this thread we will look into a few of those great men and women who have risen above their disabilities and made an indelible mark in the history of human achievements- a sheer success due to their indomitable spirit.
