A proverb a day to brighten the day!

583b. Does the pot know the taste of the porridge cooked in it?

It is not just the pot which is ignorant of the taste of the porridge cooked in it.

Most human beings do the same thing and remain ignorant of
the virtues and merits of those people who are closest to them.

If ever they realise the virtues and merits of anyone in their life,
it will be when that person is no more and this realization is of no use!

footnotes:
Kennt = Knows
der = the
Topf = pot
den = the
Geschmack des = the taste of
Brei = the porridge
gekochten = cooked
darin = in it ?

Something ....Something!

Something is said! Something else is meant!!

When the astrologer predicted that the brilliant young girl would 'continue to work all her life' she felt really elated. Her life's dream was to become a scientist and do research all her life.

True! She continues to work now, right into a ripe old age - but not by doing her dream research. She is tied up with mundane multiple chores of the house - whether or not she is capable of doing them any more.

There is no guarantee that WORK means something you LOVE to do!

There is this guarantee that WORK means something you HAVE to do!!

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

584a.
Alles muss zu seiner ursprünglichen Quelle zurückkehren.
Es gibt ein verstecktes Versprechen, dass
"Eines Tages jeder zu Gott zurückkehren wird".

584b.
Everything must return to its original source.
There is hidden promise that,
"Someday everyone will return to God".

Some of the cycles in Nature:

The Life cycle,The Water cycle, the Carbon cycle, the Nitrogen cycle, the Oxygen cycle. These cycles help the entire creation to live on, when kept in balance.

When we meddle with them and throw them out of balance,
we are bringing upon ourselves our own ruin.

muss = must
zurückkehren = return
zu = to
seiner = its
ursprünglichen = original
Quelle = source.
Es gibt = There is
ein = a
verstecktes = hidden

Something....Something!

Something that the others do is of no value!
Something one does is of the greatest value!!

Something that the others give is of no value!
Something one gives is of the greatest value!!

Something that the others say is of no value!
Something one says is of the greatest value!!

As long as this double trouble standard exists
life is one long string of complaints and tears.

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

585a.

585b.
The busy people manage to 'make time' for important things.
The lazy people can neither 'find time' nor 'make it'.

One of the riddles in real life...
The very busy people have time for everything they care about.

The lazy never have any 'free time' for anything important or unimportant,
maybe because they never have a ' real busy time' in the first place!

footnotes:
Die = The
vielbeschäftigten = busy
Menschen = people
schaffen = manage
es = it
zu nehmen = to take / make
sich = themselves
Zeit = time
für = for

Something...Something!

Some things form an integral part of one's personality like the fragrance of a flower.
It is not intentional, but very very natural.

Learning of the fine arts (lalita kalaigaL) changes the person in many subtle and unmistakable ways.

It imparts a spirituality and a serenity. It promotes self-esteem, motivation and aesthetic awareness.

The cultural exposure, creativity, improved emotional expression and the social harmony develop in us a greater tolerance to those who are different from us.
It helps us to appreciate diversity instead of hating it.

The only thing we can take with us when we transmigrate to another plane of existence is our hard-earned-knowledge.

Everything stays behind except the knowledge acquired - which has already become an integral part of the person.

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

589a. Das Glück begünstigt wenige.
589b. Fortune favours a few.

Call is as Karmam or Dharmam or Marmam....
but fortune favors only a selected few people.

That does not mean that greatness can't be achieved by the others.
Hard work and determination can one help to realize his / her dreams.

Some people are born great. ( Good luck justified!)
Some achieve greatness. ( Good examples for the others)
Some have greatness thrust upon them. (Good luck unjustified!)

footnotes:
Das = The
Glück = Luck
begünstigt = favours
wenige = few.

Something ...Something!

Some cryptic words convey a load of meaning so secretly.
We wish people " A Safe journey!" and " A Safe travel"

A girl wished her newly wedded bosom friend "A safe sleep"?!
A safe sleep... on her wedding night??!!

Her concern was not without a valid reason.
Her bosom friend had married a 'Kungfu King!'

Men who marry Karate Queens may also need this wish.

I have watched how these Karate queens
raise their legs to kick a person before
they raise their head to see that person!

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

590a.
Ehen werden zum Himmel gemacht.
Blitze, Donner und Regen auch!

590b.
Marriages are made heaven.
So are the lightnings, thunder and rain!

IF Marriages are made in heaven
where are these divorces made???

footnotes:
Ehen = Marriages
werden gemacht = are made
zum Himmel = in heaven.
Blitze = Lightnings,
Donner = thunder,
und = and
Regen = rain
auch! = too!

Children have inexplicable aptitudes. As long as they are pure and praiseworthy we must oblige them and teach them.

A four year child I know, is keen in learning mantras, slOkas and asks to be taught the sahasranAmAs on Gods.

Even many elders avoid reading / reciting these. Many men look away when asked about them. They also look down upon anyone who adheres to these recitals sincerely.

The aptitude is from earlier births and existences. A spiritually oriented person remains so in all the following births as well.

ONLY Somethings can be taken along during the transmigration.
IS THIS the best among those things?

கல் நழுவிக் கீழே விழுவது எளிது;

தவம், தியானம் செய்வது வழக்கம்;

பண்ணின தவம் என்றுமே வீணாகாது;

நீரில் விழுந்து விடுவார் நிச்சயமாக;

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

591b. Eat light and feel smart!

A heavy meal makes you feel dull, sluggish and sleepy.
You won't be in your best form nor with 100% efficiency.

Pangs of hunger also makes you feel dull, sluggish and sleepy.
Eating the right amount of food at the right time maintains good health.
Overeating kills more people than hunger and malnutrition.

footnotes:
Sie = You
Essen = eat
leicht = light
und = and
Sie = you
sich = yourself
fühlen = feel
schlau! = smart!

Somethings were ( and still are) strictly forbidden for women.

But we are all born as 'veera naaris' who won't be deterred.
So we surge ahead doing (or trying to do) everything men do.

I had attended Vedic chanting class and learned to recite all the suktham and swasti vachanam. Later we went on to learn even rudram, namakam and chamakam.

Everyone kept saying women should not recite these but no one would give any reason. So I discontinued the chanting fifteen years ago.

Long after discontinuing the chanting I got my doubt cleared by a very learned priest.

Women have a reproductive system delicately balanced and different from that of men.
The sanskrit mantras need to be uttered from the lower stomach! This affected the uterus over a period of time and caused other problems later in life. Good explanation!

Recently I heard of a freak case from an experienced doctor.

An over enthusiastic man joined with the group of pundits and priests and chanted the rudram, chamakam and namakam in an 'ati rudra maha yagna'.

Eleven recitations of the Sri Rudram followed by one recitation of the camakam is called Ekadasa Rudram. This also constitutes one unit of the Rudra Homam.
Eleven Ekadasa Rudram recitations make one Laghu Rudram.
Eleven Laghu Rudram recitations make a Maharudram.
Eleven Maharudram recitations is the Ati Rudram.
Thus, in the Ati Rudra Maha Yagnam, the Sri Rudram hymn will be recited 14641 times, with the performance of 1331 Rudra Homams by 121 Ritwik priests
.

He lost the clarity of his speech. He could speak more clearly by keeping two pebbles in his mouth for a few days. Later on even the pebbles could not help his speak clearly.

The priests who perform such maha yagnas had learned the mantra while very young. They are reciting them everyday all their life. That makes everything so different.

Can a cat imagine to be tiger and try to roar competing with the real tigers!
So the poor goodman lost his speech by trying to do something not meant for him.

Somethings have to be accepted and believed in good faith.
If we seek scientific proof, we may end up by becoming one!

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

592b. There is danger everywhere for one who fears it.

The brave man dies but once in his lifetime.
The coward dies one hundred times everyday!

footnotes:
Für = For
den = them
der = who
fürchtet = fears
sie = them ( the dangers)
gibt es = there is
Gefahr = danger
überall = everywhere.

Both speaking and singing appear to be similar to us, but they are very different.

Speaking makes one tired and the longer one speaks, faster one develops the hoarse irritating voice of a politician during the election time.

Signing on the other hand makes one's voice sweeter and finer. It develops a positive energy - even though singing itself needs a lot of energy.

Singing improves your mood. It releases the same feel-good-brain-chemicals as eating a chocolate! It is very effective as a stress reliever and improves the quality of sleep. Singing releases pain-relieving endorphins, helping you to forget that painful tooth / knee / whatever.

For those who can't sing or won't sing...just listen to classical music of any style.

The calming effect of classical music takes away any jitters or nervousness, and can help to decrease your heart rate and anxiety.

The Mozart Effect relies on listening to classical music while performing a task, which helps to focus on the task at hand and improve memory retention.

That something called MUSIC has that something called MAGIC in it!
