A proverb a day to brighten the day!

424a. Ein Unglück schlägt niemals alleine zu

424b. A misfortune never strikes alone.

People believe that everything comes in three!
All the three 'the good, the bad and the ugly' seem to follow this rule.

Some things are more than enough even when they occur 'just once'
but they may also get repeated to prove the statement to be true!

footnotes;
Ein = A
Unglück = misfortune
schlägt zu = strikes
niemals = never
alleine = alone

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

427a. Sei langsam zu versprechen. Sei schnell dabei.

427b. Be slow to promise. Be quick to keep it.

A very successful man advised his son thus:

"Never make a promise, as far as possible.
If you promise honor it as soon as possible."

While in school we used to have some classmates
who would swear for anything and everything.

Such students were referred to by the others as
"One who would make four promises for quarter of an aNA"

(16 aNAs were equal to one rupee.
One aNA was equal to 12 paise.)

The amazing thing was that in those days,
we could buy stuff for even one paise = 1/192 rupee.

The Fear for the Unknown

#1. The Disciple VS The Guru

The Guru was very popular allover the country in teaching martial arts. A young man was a serious disciple and learned every thing his master had to teach. Then he became bloated with pride. Since he was younger and stronger than his Guru, he thought he can easily win over the old Guru.

So he challenged his own Guru for a trial of strength by combat. When he went to the house of his Guru to fix a time and place for the showdown, the Guru's daughter brought to them a huge ladle. The young man wondered aloud what it was used for!

The daughter said, "It is used in the martial arts. My father has taught you everything except how to use this". The young challenger was suddenly shaken to his core and fell down at the feet of his Guru, begging for his pardon.

The reason.....The Fear for the Unknown!

The Fear for the Unknown

#2. The Proud Pundit

In olden times it was the favorite sport of the well read Pundits to go around the nation, challenging the other pundits for debates and punish the losers severely.

One such pundit went around conquering all the others in the debates. When he challenged in one of the kingdoms, all the pundits were scared to confront him for the fear of losing their honor.

The court jester was a clever man and accepted the challenge - even though he might have been less well read than the proud pundit.

On the day of the debate the jester brought his manuscript wrapped in a silk cloth and placed it in front of the pundit.

The pundit asked the name of the manuscript they were going to debate on. The jester replied " thilakaashta mahisha bandanam"

Now this was an unfamiliar work for the proud pundit. He has never heard the name nor knew anything about its contents. He promptly accepted his defeat and left the country in shame.

The king asked the jester to show him the manuscript. The bundle contained mustard plant stems tied with a rope used to tie a Buffalo. The name used by the jester just translated to ' mustard stems bound by a Buffalo rope"

What made the proud pundit make a disappearing act?

The fear of the unknown!

#3. The Off-Key-BhAgavathar

The BhAgavathar loved his own voice-since no one else could love it. If he gets on a stage and gets hold of a mike he does not know when to stop or even where or how to stop. In one of his concerts he got a slip from the audience.

It read "nippaattu!' The word was not another 'pAttu' and actually meant "STOP!"
He though he knew all the songs (pAttu) but this song was quite new to him. He quickly and quietly wound up the concert and made the disappearing act.

The reason... The fear of the unknown song!

Getting an appointment for the COVID 19 vaccination appears to be more difficult than finding a vaccine for the COVID 19. I never thought super seniors 80+ still have so much of drive and energy in them! :)

chakkani rAja mArgham!

For 75 days I struggled hard to learn German for free.
I was forced to keep going back and forth all the time.

For every mistake I committed a heart was taken away.
At times all the five hearts would be lost during a single lesson.

I kept losing the five hearts and myself become disheartened.
I went crazy to earn more and more gems which I can use for refilling the hearts.

Then everything changed like in a dream.
The narrow suffocating alley to progress suddenly transformed to a rAja mArgham ( a highway!)

For a small fees per month ( when paid for one year)
I get infinite hearts and can make any number of mistakes.

NOT THAT I WANT TO! BUT MISTAKES HELP US TO AVOID HEM IN FUTURE.

I don't have to watch those 30+ seconds long ads anymore!
The gems are accumulating like in Alibaba's treasure.

Now I can concentrate on the number of Crowns.
For every level completed we get a Crown.

The Number of Crowns shows how much one has really progressed.
SO now the ratio of Crowns to Days has changed!

Previously it was 5 Crowns per 2 days.
Now it is 5 (or even 10) Crowns per day.

If I keep up my current pace, I can complete my German course,
learn Spanish and brush up my Hindi by the end of 2021!

Hard working and Happy learning! :)
