Think or sink!

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

143a. Selbst ist der Mann.
143b. Self is the servant ( is you want to do anything right)

The only way to get
something done the you want it, is to do it yourself.
This method is more
efficient, much quicker and more to your taste.

There are a few task masters who would get what they want, done the way they want it.
But they are more feared than loved. People obey them only out of sheer fear.

footnotes:
Selbst = Self
ist = is
der = the
Mann = man (man servant)

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

144b. The cat may look upon the king.

Anything or anyone can look upon anything or anyone else.
That does not mean anything nor add up to anything really!

footnotes:

doch = of course
die Katze = the cat
wohl = very well
sieht = look
an = upon
den Kaiser = the king.

Some men of straw boast that they know some of the greatest celebrities.
Every knows everything about the celebrities - that is why they are celebrities!

But the million dollar question remains this...
"Do those celebrities know these tall claimers" ???

St. Patrick's Day OR The Pinching day?!

Many of the schools celebrate St. Patrick's day today-
though the actual day falls on 17th March!

All the kids who are dressed in green color
would get pinched till they turn red / blue/ purple !?

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

145a. Sorge macht vor Zeiten grau.
145b. Worry makes (one) grey ahead of time.

Hurry, worry and curry contribute to most of our
ailments.
They alter our external appearance in addition to the other problems.

chumma irundhaalum
"sivanE!" endru irundhaalum
iLamai oonjal aadum!
andrEl mudhumai thaLLaadum!!!

footnotes:-
Sorge = worry
macht = makes (one)
grau = grey
vor = ahead of
Zeiten = times

Every dark cloud has a silver lining!
What is the silver lining of COVID???

People have to greet one another
without hugging, Kissing or even touching.

The Elbow-bump, The knee-knock
and you will be surprised to know this
'The Traditional Namasthe of India'!

When I was waiting outside a store today,
an elderly man with a brush mustache came
to me and greeted me "Namasthe!" 🙏

In USA, even before the entry of Covid-19, people used to greet with a namaste, whenever they see an Indian lady!
Our bindi shows our motherland! (y)

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

146a. Natur geht vor Lehre.
146b. Naure overtakes teching.

Teaching transform a person.
But at the right moment or opportunity the true nature emerges
stronger than all the teaching and training can restrain and contain.
A tiger can not change its stripes nor a cheetah its spots!

footnotes:-
Natur = True Nature
geht = goes
vor = ahead of
Lehre = teaching

No banana leaf
No betel leaves

No flowers
No butter

So what???

We still have the yellow charadu, the kAradais and a pooja!
It is the sincerity that matter more than anything else external!

Life is a continuous chain of cheerful compromises! :)
I look at what we have ... rather than what we don't have!

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

147b. Envy is dead, but has left behind many children
.

LOVE makes all the mistakes and defects of the loved person appear insignificant.

ENVY burns in the heart like a constant fire, magnifying the smallest mistake / defect!

Footnotes:-
Neidhart = Envy
ist = is
gestorben = dead
aber = but
hat = has

hinterlassen = left behind
viele = many
Kinder = children

எடுத்தால் குற்றம், வைத்தால் குற்றம்;

"Swim or Sink!" might be more popular than this title Think or Sink!
But that does not make this title less true on any scale!

When we do not think too well... we sink by ourselves.
When we think too well... the others will make us sink.

So which is the better option among these two?

Sink by ourselves without thinking hard and well
or let the others take care of the job of sinking us?

It is indeed a tough question and needs to be pondered
well before it could be answered.

Well! In any case we need an outlet for free thinking so that
the other threads can remain pure and unadulterated.

Welcome to think constructively on anything under
the sun and above it and to refrain from any
destructive and damaging thinking process.
:)
Think, but don't sink in your thinking. Do some practical work also!

Na hi suptasya simhasya pravishanti mukhe mrugah||

With love you have SCOPE! With envy you have to cope!

It is true that there can be no substitute for efforts and hard work.
We can't achieve anything just by dreaming about it.
Even the mighty lion has to go and hunt when it gets hungry.

The title of the thread is Think OR Sink!
It implies that we either think and struggle to order to survive
OR we do not think nor act appropriately and hence sink!
So both Thinking and Sinking can't happen at the same time!

Thank you for the feedback. 🙏
It is nice to cross someone on a lonely path
who cares to share his opinion and responds! :)

With love you have SCOPE! With envy you have to cope!

Always some kind of 'scope' is involved!

Love finds various reasons to accept the actions
of the loved ones - using all the possible scopes.
Envy grows when unable to cope up with the person.

The best example of Envy and hatred is the feeling Kamsan had for Krishna.
Young Krishna was burning inside Kamsan like a roaring fire.

In Telugu they say ' kaduppulO nippu!' ( = fire in the stomach).
ANdAL nAchiyAr sings
"kamsan vayitRil neruppena nindra nedu mAlE!"

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

148b. The new broom sweeps well, but the old broom knows the corner.

The new wife ( new bride) is very beautiful to look at and does her chores.
But it is the old wife of several decades that serves her husband the best

The best wife is one who merges with the background to remain so to say invisible
both unseen and unheard BUT fulfills all the needs of her husband!

Is there anyone like this woman, anymore, anywhere
in the age group < 60 years or married for < 40 years??? :unsure:

Fotnotes:
Der = the
neue Besen = new broom
fegt = sweeps
gut = well
aber = but
der = the
alte Besen = old broom
kennt = knows
die = the
Ecken = corners

Is it better to be the Head of a Cat or the Tail of a Tiger??? :unsure:

It depends entirely on the mindset of the person making the choice. ;)

Given the choice I would wish to be the Head of the Tiger! :giggle:

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

149b. Not everyone is a thief who the dog barks at.

Territorial terrorism is best seen in dogs.
One dog would not let me walk even in my side of the compound wall.

It would bark its head ( as well as my head ) off in the chill stillness of the early morning.
I have never seen that dog nor had it ever seen me.
Finally I had to request my neighbor over the wall to keep her dog under control.

The dog can be
quietened by offering a piece of meat/ sweetmeat.
The stinking rich can be quietened by a heavy tax cut!
A Tamil adage says "NakkuNdAr naavezhAr!"

footnotes:-
Nicht = not
alle sind = everone is
Diebe = (a) thief
die = who
der = the
Hund = dog
anbellt = barks at

Sparisam is one feeling which can satisfy the entire boy
The reason...???
The Atma is spread over every atom / molecule/ nerve/ tissue of every living thing.
We can feel a tiny loose hair on the nape of the neck as clearly as anywhere else we can see.

All Children like to be tickled. So some kids evolve a novel plan to get tickled!
They sit in a big circle and each one will be combing with his smooth finger tips
the bare back of the kid sitting in the front - ever so gently.
The system of mutual tickling works out wonderfully.

The improved version can be seen where the girls braid one another's hair sitting in a circle!
When there used to be more food than we can polish off my mother would not want to waste the food. Those were the days when Refrigerator was not known where we used to live.

She would make us sit in a large circle and give us the balls of the rice mixed appropriately with the side dishes. Not only the whole food would get exhausted, but may be we could have eaten some more if there were more food!

Such was the 'kai maNam' of our wonderful mother. 🙏

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

150a. Niemand ist unersetzlich.
150b. No one is
irreplaceable.

Men may come and men may go but the world goes on all the same.

The greatest conceit is that everyone thinks he/ she is irreplaceable.
That he/ she is really unique and the most talented person in the Cosmos!
Nothing can be farther from the truth! No one is really
indispensable!

Nature abhors vacuum and the free space you have just created in your house
by rearranging all the other things in it, has already be taken up by something else!

footnotes:
Niemand = No one
ist = is
unersetzlich = irreplaceable

:unsure:

:oops:

:giggle:

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

151b. Hobby is the laziness of the busy and the business of the lazy.

Small drops of water make up the mighty ocean.
Small seconds and minutes make up our life span.

Small actions sum up to make our life what it is.
Small choices help us make our right / wrong decisions.

Small decisions make us walk in the right path....
maybe often alienated but never really alone.
Small steps in the right path make our life worthwhile.

footnotes:
Hobby = hobby
ist = is
die = the
Faulheit = laziness
der Beschäftigten = of the busy
und = and
das = the
Geschäft = business
der Faulen = of the lazy

DOES THIS EXPLAIN WHY THE LAZY AND THE BUSY CAN NEVER SEE EYE TO EYE??? :geek:

Let us welcome the Spring! :)
Lasst uns den Frühling begrüßen! :)

Spring, also known as springtime, is one of the four temperate seasons, succeeding winter and preceding summer. There are various technical definitions of spring, but local usage of the term varies according to local climate, cultures and customs. Wikipedia
