Think or sink!

The schools have reopened here. So some order has been restored in the household. I don't know why vacation must disrupt the entire daily routine. Thinking of the number of precious hours wasted in the morning, I become sad.

BUT Why are they precious?

Early morning is the best time to do anything or rather many things... yoga, meditation, workout, walking, running, jogging, studying, writing, practicing music or musical instruments to name a few.

The body is well relaxed and restored to face the fresh challenges of another day. The mind is clear and the air is fresh. I do not remember having slept beyond 5 - 30 A.M even as a child!

Later the waking time got shifted to 4- 30 A.M while in the hostel as a student. It was 4- 30 A.M mostly to give me time to do some stretching/ bending under the guise of yoga.

Once it got shifted to 3- 45 A.M to give me time to finish my yoga routine, sweep & mop the house, take bath and rush to the Vedic chanting classes at 5 - 30 A.M

During the past two months the whole household woke up after 8 A.M and I as usual at 5-30 A.M.
So I got 90 minutes of prime time (quiet and quite fresh) to study my German Lessons everyday.

I hate to see anything wasted unnecessarily... be it Time, Money, Energy, Power, Fuel, Water, Words, Paper or anything at all!

THAT makes me the common enemy of everyone who wastes any of these things! :(

How do we catch them young and teach them young?
Through cartoons/ movies with a messages and a moral of course! :)

There is little choice in rotten apples.

Large streams from little fountains flow.

Tall oaks from little acorns grow.

Willful waste makes woeful wants.

A rotten case abides no handling.

Pleasure is precarious. Virtue is immortal.

Life is too short to be wasted in mean anxieties and worries.

Have nothing but praise for your friends in public.
Admonish them in private.:boxing:

You are not what you think you are.
You are not what I think you are.
You are what you think I think you are.

Famous misnomers!

Wisecracking...

The wise never indulge in wisecracking! Then why is it so called?

Wisecracking is "A fool's imitation of wisdom".

Common sense which is quite uncommon is named as common sense.

In the same way wisecracking which is a fool's liberty is named as wisecracking.

Here are two famous misnomers we use everyday and

hardly pay any attention to their implication in the opposite direction!

Paradoxes in real life!

The offended may forgive.
But the offender ... never!

He shouts the loudest...
who has nothing to convey.

No cloth is too fine for the moth to devour.
No man is too good to be criticized!

Too much wisdom is Folly!

Procrastination is the thief of time.

Sloth is the mother of poverty.

Giving (just like eating?) has no bottom.

Peaceful coexistence of Dad and Son!

When the son is very young his father is a Superhero! He is the strongest man, the tallest man, the most handsome and gifted man. He can do everything under the Sun! The boy is all admiration for his dad!

A few years roll by. Now the child is teenager and his worst enemy is his father! Always telling him what to do and what not to do! A real pain in the neck! There are constant show-downs and a lot of friction between them!

More years roll by and the son is 30+ now. He knows what it is to be father now and what it was to be a son years back. He accepts his father now. They learn to live side by side as good friends. Finally there is peaceful coexistence and amity between the two generations!

Why do I (try to ) learn German?
I have been told that Deutsch has many things common with Sanskrit.

How to very if this statement is true!
Only be learning them and comparing them!

Little drops of water make a mighty ocean.
Little steps carry you on a long journey.

Little words can add up to an impressive vocabulary.
Little harmless desires must be fulfilled - if they can be!

My dad used to refer to these simple / harmless desires
as 'aRpa aasaigaL' which ought to be fulfilled ASAP.
OR one may have to take one more janma JUST to fulfill those desires!

Pry not into the affairs of the others.

He who gives to the poor gives to God.

First you be just. Then you may be generous.

One today is worth two tomorrow.

Patience and perseverance can accomplish wonders.

Plain speech is better than too much wit.

A fault denied is twice committed.

So what about one who keeps committing grave mistakes and keeps denying them???

All is not gold that glitters.

The toad, though ugly, is useful.

A willing heart lightens the work.

Father and mother are kind, but God is kinder!

God gives and gives and forgives.

Man gets and gets and forgets.

Credit lost is a broken glass.

Contentment can not be too dearly purchased.

Despise not your inferiors. They make you appear greater.

Hasty resolutions seldom speed well.

Good wares make quick markets.

The best definition of Hell:

G.B.Shaw.

Women are wiser than men because
though they know far less,
they understand far more.
I bet they also listen far more than men!

There is too much beauty upon this earth
for a lonely man to bear.

Learn to labor and wait.
Longfellow

Everything comes to those who can wait.

A virtuous woman is a sparkling crown to her husband.
But often she is set on the sole of her husband's sandals!

Deft definition...

A well adjusted person:

One who can commit the same mistakes twice-
without feeling uncomfortable.

Truth is the most valuable thing we have.
Let us economize it.
Mark twain.

The man who is a pessimist before forty eight knows too much!
The man who is an optimist after forty eight knows too little.
Mark Twain

You can preach better sermon with your life than with your lips.
Goldsmith.

The greatest mistake we can make in life is to be

continually fearing that we may make one! :fear:

Ideals are like stars. We MAY never ever reach them in real life.
But like the mariners of the sea, we CAN chart our course by them.

Recently I learnt that pi is not confined to the circles

Surprisingly many other ratios also yield pi - even when there is no circle involved!

The ratio of the length of a meandering river to the actual distance it covers yields pi!

Let a number of parallel lines be drawn on a sheet of paper such that the distance separating them equal to the length of simple straight sewing needle.

Now the needle may be randomly dropped several times on the paper from above. The needle may fall on one of those parallel lines cutting it, or it may fall in between two of those lines. Both these occurrences are counted and registered.

The ratio of these two numbers also yields pi!

So there is more to pi than meets the eye! :)

விடாக்கண்டன் VS கொடாக்கண்டன்
(One who won't let go VS One who won't give!)

This confrontation is world famous. The pair is as famous as Tom and Jerry or Laurel and Hardy!
Only in our case it is completely reversed. The payer is chasing the payee like a pai! :(

We are the payers ( விடாக்கண்டன் who-won't-let-go) since we want to pay our dues by electronic fund transfer for which we need some info.

The payee (கொடாக்கண்டன்) on the other hand are the ones-who-won't-give the relevant details.

Has such a thing happened to anyone else here???

Maybe we really do not have to pay? May be we are tested for our endurance ?? :(

Offence is the best form of Defence! Have no doubt!!!

The accuser often accuses his opponent of the crimes he himself has committed
before anyone else can trace them back to their origin and pin them on him!

The Blatant Lies have learned to blare like a trumpet
while The Timid Truth can just mumble and squeak!!!

Sounds strange but is true!

Dangerous criminals are locked up behind bars so that they can not harm anyone else.

But what is the guarantee that they will not be harmed by the 'good people' outside?

So no one good or bad is really safe - either behind the bars or outside the cell!!

Why are the young girls at the highest risk when it comes to their personal safety?

The girls in their early teens may resemble young women in their physical appearance.

But they are no more than mere children in their mental maturity.

They can travel alone and freely and that is what becomes the most dangerous thing!

Victims are carefully selected for their good looks, gullibility, independance and ignorance!

When they get caught in a new work or organized crime they become helpless.

The fear of getting exposed, ridiculed and blackmailed keeps them paralysed.

The criminals know how to add insult to injury and make fun of the very children

whose life they have ruined for their own advantage!

God save the fairer sex from dark deeds!

To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved.
I know because I am!!

We may be deceived if we trust too much.
(You can't deceive someone who does not trust you anyway! )

But we will live in torments of Hell if we don't trust enough!
( SamsayAthmA vinas'yathi! = The eternal doubter gets destroyed!)

I prefer cheerful people to witty people. But what is wit?
Wit is nothing but cheerfulness painstakingly intellectualized!

In this age if it is said of a man, "He knows the art of successful living"
it might mean that the person is not known for his honesty or integrity.

To be witty is not enough.
One must possess sufficient wit to avoid having too much of it.

Enough wit places one above his equals.
Too much of it lowers him to the rank of an entertainer.

In some countries the concept of community bath is popular-may be due to lack of space or lack of enough water supply or both!

One child happened to see a group of people taking bath and shouted, "Shame! Shame!"

Overcome by a sense of shame, all the people turned their backs towards the child. The child shouted again, but this time it said,"Same! Same!"

The bright kid was right! We all look very much the same from behind. It is only the face and other bulging assets (?) in the front that make us look different from one another!
