Think or sink!

There is a 15 year old girl in the neighborhood, suffering from Cerebral Palsy. She can't stand or walk. Usually she is very quiet but at times she starts making a lot of noise along with uncontrolled movements of the legs, hands and neck.

This happens whenever someone visits their house of they receive a phone call. I was moved to pity when I realized that it was the only way she can take part in the conversation and express whatever she felt like expressing.

The gift of speech is a treasure. Yet how many of us put it to good use??? :(

Training a new staff I took recently reminded me of my internship days.

I remember working with senior consultants that shouted at us like Tasmanian Devils.

One used to fling files at our face in front of patients and make us pick up the papers from the floor and used to place his index fingers on the upper part of the chest of us interns and push us.

Once I really felt like hitting him cos it was too painful to be pushed by him.

Also he never respected us interns..I still remember once he asked me if I was married and I said No(at that time I was still single).

Then he told a patient who was a drug addict that "hey this doc is the same race as you..she is not married..you can hug her if you want"

The drug addict had more sense..he later told me that he might be a drug addict but he will respect a female.

Dont know why I am reminded so much about that idiotic consultant I used to work for.Normally when I am too reminded of someone I invariably see their pic in the obituary section in the newspapers in the next few days!LOL

But in a way he taught me something very valuable..that is NEVER to be like him.

That is why when I train my staff..even when they make mistakes..I guide them..I do not shout at them cos when a person is new he/she might be unsure and needs our guidance.

I believe guiding someone can bring out the best in them.Shouting and yelling at anyone only increases stress levels and people will remember us for all the wrong reasons.

Silence and Gentleness are the marks of strength ...not shouting and rude behaviour.

Yes! People can teach the others in two different mathods.

One is by being a perfect role model of what to be and become! :hail:

The other is by projecting what NOT to be be become! :evil:

Yes! we remember most of the people for wrong reasons - since they gave us the wrong messages and played the wrong role models.

As for touching females anywhere on the chest and pushing them hard and for flinging files in the face, that man needed to be promptly put in a straight jacket and a padded cell. :mad2:
 
Most people do not realize the line of demarcation :decision:

between being strict and being rude. :(

I have read these wonderful lines long ago.

A mother should be gentle and strict (in that order)

A father must be strict and gentle ( in that order)

But please note that in both the parents

both gentleness and being strict are necessary.

I prefer to be gentle and leave the strict part to be taken care off by wife.

It works pretty well for me

When One does not know the right answer to question posed by a student or subordinate, the best course is shout your way out of the embarrassing situation.

The best approach is after shouting , tell him to consult books and others and report the answer to you.

Another good way is pose another question to him instead of answering his question and tell him to find answers for both and report

Now the dirt and dust which have become visible
- thanks to my cataract operation - have stolen my peace of mind! :(

The guys used to get it worse..they too get touched on the chest and pushed even harder.I remember one of the male interns even was held by his collar and shouted at.

Next story...Then there was another psycho old consultant..he used to hate women taller than him.

Since I was taller than him he used to shout at me and tell me that he hates tall women..he likes cute and small sized women and he claims that tall women were arrogant!LOL

So the small sized females who were just 5 feet and below used to escape his scoldings.

Totally unfair to be discriminated solely due to height.

Then he also used to claim that I walked as if I owned the hospital..he expected me to walk with a hunch! Anyone walking with a good posture he would call arrogant.

Even another hospital I worked in the director also told me that I sat too straight on my chair and walked too straight and that might make patients think I am arrogant.

I told him I cant be hunching cos hunching is known to be bad for posture and the spine as we age.


Both these men who did not like how I walked were also genetically Indian like me..but they never found fault with the walking style of Non Indian females.. seems to be genetically Indian males surely have a complex even with a same race junior!LOL

Indian males have a different standard for Indian females and another standard for the non Indian females.

Men do not like smart women, intelligent women, bold women, beautiful women & confident women.

THEY WOULD RATHER A HAVE DUMB, DEPENDENT, LOUSY and LAZY WOMAN.

I was advised by my intelligent B.I.L that I must pretend to be helpless EVEN if I really did not feel that way- just to keep the male ego bloated and not deflated.

But I have learned that 'To be oneself' is the best way to exist and not to bother whether people like you or loath you for being what you are!

People who matter don't mind. People who mind don't matter! :)
 
It was the review day - three weeks after the prostrate removal surgery of my husband.

Some days everything goes on as per its sweet wish and not according to our plan. Today was such a day!

So nothing took place at the appointed time - despite meticulous planning and plotting (!)

But the review is over now and no need to darken the steps of the hospital - unless some problem develops in the future.

The hospital has more chairs for the waiting people than a cinema theater as!

Four hours is too fast to finish one's business and come out. I ran into hypoglycemia and the whole world turned brilliant and my head lighter.

Brain can work only on sugar and glucose. It can't get energy from anything else.

So when the blood sugar runs low, things change dramatically. My practical and wise sister had told me to carry a few biscuits and some thing to drink whenever I go out. But I never guessed that it was going to take so long! :clock:

The enlarged prostrate used to be removed externally. Now it is done by using an endoscope through the natural urinary passage.

So no piercing, no scalpel and no sutures - making things easier for both the doctor and the patients! :)

I had a doubt bugging my mind since the past three weeks!

How can something enlarged and bulging on the outside can be removed from the inside??? :confused:

I put this question to the brilliant, young, kind and smiling doctor.
I bet he did not expect this kind of question from a lady of my age.

He became very happy and exclaimed, "It is a very good question!
I am glad you have asked it to me"

He had the 3 D model on his table and went on to explain the surgical procedure.

He then drew the images of an apple and an orange and compared them to the enlarged prostrate and explained how the enlarged portions can be removed like the pulp of these fruits from the inside.

Getting a good doubt is a good thing. But getting a good answer depends on whether we can find the right person, with the right knowledge, and the right temperament to clear the doubts.

I remember a doctor who when asked to explain what was wrong with me said "As if you will understand if I tell you."

I told him "If you really know what you are talking about, surely you can make me understand it!" :moony:

Knowing is one thing. The ability to get it across is quite another! :thumb:
 
Some of the weirdos I met today...

Three young men who grow kidney stones and come there to get them removed in Gazzini style. :bump2:

(The mother of one of them was worrying about the Rs 60K charged for the surgery + the blood loss + the recurrence of the problem.)

I suggested that she and her DIL must force feed water - which the young man refused to drink - through a funnel as Kamal Hasan does in Pesum Padam!
 
The 90 year Velu thatha - who needed minimum three people to assist him (two for holding him and the third for holding his hook type walking stick and his medical file).

But he had come there all alone. How he reached there still baffles me.

He believed that his name and age will throw open all the doors like the Open Sesame of Ali baba.

But they did not and he had to wait for his turn like everyone else.

He said that I was like his mother- when I assisted him to sit in a chair.

Young boys and girls call me Paatti . But a 90 year old man calling me his mother made me feel like one who is 120 years old! :rolleyes:
 
The young man who sat with his wife and parents on the chairs with his bags and baggage - even after getting admitted in the hospital and getting a room allotted!

He won't go to the canteen to eat - though the whole family was hungry after travelling from a neighboring city.
