[h=3]500,000-year-old man's Swiss Army knife found[/h] London, March 20 (IANS) Researchers have found prehistoric flint tools that resemble "Swiss Army knife" and were used to butcher animal carcasses. Among elephant remains some 500,000 years old at a Lower Palaeolithic site in Revadim, Israel, professor Ran Barkai of the Tel Aviv University and colleagues recently analysed 'hand axes' and 'scrapers', replete with animal residue. The research, published recently in PLOS ONE, represents the first scientifically verified direct evidence for the precise use of Palaeolithic stone tools - to process animal carcasses and hides.

சேர்த்து கட்டினர், மனம் மிக மகிழ்ந்தனர்;

ஆளுக்கு ஒரு பக்கம் இழுக்கும் போது;

[h=3]Astronomers set to scour sky with infrared detector to search aliens | Latest News & Updates at Daily News & Analysis[/h] Astronomers will scour the sky with infrared detector to search extraterrestrial intelligence from other worlds. The NIROSETI team has created an infrared detector inside the dome at Lick Observatory that would scan the sky for pulses of infrared light. It also takes less energy to send the same amount of information using infrared signals than it would with visible light. Charles Townes, the late UC Berkeley scientist whose contributions to the development of lasers led to a Nobel Prize, suggested the idea in a paper published in 1961.

[h=3]Tamil Nadu CM asks PM Modi to advise Karnataka not to construct dams[/h] Chennai, Mar 21 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam today appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to advise Karnataka not to proceed with its plan of setting up new reservoirs across the Cauvery river at Mekedatu, saying the move would affect flow of water to Tamil Nadu. "I would like to reiterate that the unilateral action of the Government of Karnataka to proceed with the execution of two new reservoirs across Mekedatu would amount to gross violation of the final order dated February 5, 2007 as notified in the Gazette on February 19, 2013 as it would affect the flow of water to Tamil Nadu", he said in his letter to Modi. In this context, Panneerselvam recalled the passing of an unanimous resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on December 5, 2014 urging Centre to advise Karnataka not to proceed with construction of two new dams at Mekedatu.
