The Mystery of Death

Death arguably is the most feared event. What happens after death is a mystery because there seems to be no way to verify it. Everything said about it is a conjecture. Let me elaborate on what seems to me to be a good conjecture. If one understands self as consisting of body, mind and soul, self can be said to go out of existence only if all the three go out of existence. We know for sure that body goes out of existence. What about mind and soul? From the way these concepts are defined, mind and soul change constantly but do not go out of existence. But they do go out of existence of the physical world eventually and merge with the timeless.

Let us take only the concept of physical death. It happens at the level of the body. Since mind and soul exist, self exists but since body is also part of self, the self takes on a different body. A civilization advanced enough to realize this will be able to understand that the self exists even after physical death and locate the mind corresponding to the self. It may be even able to establish communication with the mind. Such civilization has truly conquered space.

An even more advanced civilization would be able to locate soul and interact with it. By interacting with the soul I mean, not being influenced by mind and body and a direct communication with the soul. Such a civilization would have reached the fullest human capacity possible in the physical world and would be ruling the universe.

[h=1]Life Beyond Death[/h]by Swami Abhedananda

Unlike many of the books on Spiritualism,the present work has a special feature of it's own.It's pages do not narrate the legends and tales of ghosts and other supernatural beings,as one in most cases finds in such books that claim to unveil the mystery of the world beyond the grave.The treatment of the subject is purely a scientific one,and it has taken a new departure from the prevailing methods and systems of presentation of the subject. The present work is free from all prejudices and never subscribes to any of these blindly biased views.It has given an impartial or dispassionate view on spiritualism showing wisely and ably it's merits and demerits,it's bright and dark sides as well.

All the problems of soul,pre-existence,immortality,reincarnation and eternality have been clearly solved by the Philosopher Saint Swami Abhedananda in these lectures in a remarkably lucid and characteristic style of his own.The Book,originally printed in the year 1944 has run into eight editions printed in 2005.
