I feel we tend to read the minds of the youth or the genxt as though we are know-it-alls. Outwardly, most of them are "aspirational", want to live as if they are in the US or UK, but I can't say what is inside their minds. The very limited interaction which I have had with some of the young people of all castes, tells me that ideas like caste, their comparative social status etc., are grasped by these youngsters very clearly.

Secondly even if BJP combine wins Bihar with a decisive majority, it will not at all mean end of Mandal politics; we may be only seeing what we want to see, if we think Mandal/OBC/BC politics will come to an end. By the same token TN politics will also not get rid of the Dravidian tinge, imo. Only the future can tell what will be.
Thank you ,a very perceptive post.

It is a million rupee riddle what young people want.With demographic change having a large number of young people voting in bihar, they hold the key.

Whether mandal politics comes to an end or not , it will be the end of nitish,lalu era and a new generation of leaders will emerge in bihar . What happens to dravidian

rule in a southern state is not known . It will definitely get challenged due to Modi effect.The old rhetoric of Hindi thrusting on south and anti brahmin rhetoric might

return to haunt

Inspired by Hardik, upper caste Andhra groups campaign against reservation –

They say a reservation system should be based on income and not on caste or religion
As Gujarat's Patidar community’s quota-campaign led by Hardik Patel continues to lose steam, another upper-caste movement has popped up in Andhra Pradesh, seeking to counter the reservation policy.

On September 9, a round table with representatives of seven upper castes was organized in Vijayawada, to discuss the adverse impact of reservations on the upper castes, especially in the field of education and employment.

The result? A joint action committee titled 'Agra Kula Ikya Vedika' with representatives of the seven upper castes, Brahmins, Khatriyas, Vysya, Kammas, Reddys, Velamas and Kapus have decided to fight against the present reservation system in the country.

"We're not demanding that the reservation system be abolished. We're just saying it should not depend on caste and religion," Agra Kula Ikya Vedika convenor and All India Brahmin Federation chief advisor Kota Sankara Sarma tells The News Minute.

[h=1]Kerala's Namboothiri Brahmins demand minority status[/h]An outfit of Kerala's Namboothiri Brahmins has demanded minority status for them, arguing that the community, which faced a socio-economic fall out after implementation of land reforms act, is miniscule in the state.President of the Yogakshema Sabha, Akkeeraman Kaladasan Bhattathirippad, also said minority status should be calculated state-wise and not on the basis of national level assessment.Calling for changes in reservation norms, he said it should be calculated on the basis of economic capacity of a person and the government's assistance in various forms, including reservation, are required for better living of many members of Kerala's Brahmin community."There should be changes in the norms for giving reservation in view of the just-released data of the Caste and Religion Census. The calculation of minority status should be state-wise. Brahmins should be given minority status," Bhattathirippad told reporters here.
He said Yogakshema Sabha will discuss all these issues at its three-day state conference scheduled from Saturday here.
"We will submit a memorandum to Central government raising various issues including minority status and reservation policy," Bhattathirippad said.
