Hello everyone,
My family’s kula deivam (family deity) is the goddess at the Siruvachur Madurakaliamman Temple in Tamil Nadu. I moved to Germany a few years ago and haven’t been back home for the pooja ceremonies with family. We are planning to visit the temple in December with my spouse and our youngest child, and we’d like to perform two important rituals:
In particular:
We would very much appreciate guidance, especially from someone who has done these rituals at Siruvachur temple.
Thank you in advance for your help and blessings.
- Maavilakku Pooja (offering of the rice-jaggery lamp)
- Head-shaving (tonsure) for our youngest child as a vow / offering to the goddess.
In particular:
- What offerings are required (e.g., maavilakku materials, fruits, coconuts, special cloths)? and where to buy them?
- What time of day / what days is the temple open for these rituals (I understand this temple opens certain days only).
- For the head-shaving: where is it done, is there a barber facility in the temple premises or nearby, what are the customs (bath afterwards, disposal of hair etc.)?
- Any dress code or special etiquette we should observe (for us as a family, especially coming from abroad)?
- Approximate donation / fee (even a ball-park) and whether we need to bring local currency (rupees) or can pay by card/online.
We would very much appreciate guidance, especially from someone who has done these rituals at Siruvachur temple.
Thank you in advance for your help and blessings.
