Hi Balakrishnan,
This may be a delayed info, but still might be of helpful to others..
Soothikaasoucham or birth theetu is of 2 types.
1) asprishyatva lakshanam - i.e., (objection for touching, talking etc..)
2) dharmanadhikaara lakshana - i.e., objection to dharmic karmas, like brahma yagyam, deva pooja.
Here in this theetu (birth in this case), the mother of the child is called soothikai. only she is obligated to observe both the type of theetu for 10 days.
For others, i.e., all the gnyaatis (sapindars or daayadis/paternal side) all are subjected to only second type of theetu after taking the initial bath after the birth of the child.
To elaborate, everybody from the paternal side including father, there is no sparsha or touching teethu for 10 days,
but no rituals or deva pooja, except snanam and sandhyavandanam daily.
Check without aathu vadhyar also.
Sarvam Krishnarpanam.
Venkat.
