Karnataka police officer who alleged VIP treatment for Sasikala in jail transferred
In a report submitted to the Home Department and Director General of Police for Prison Department H N Sathyanarayana Rao, Roopa had alleged that the Prison Department officials were providing VIP treatment to V K Sasikala for a bribe of Rs 2 crore.

Days after Karnataka police officer D Roopa in a report alleged that AIADMK (Amma) general secretary V K Sasikala was enjoying VIP treatment at Parappana Agrahara central prison, Roopa has been transferred to the traffic department, news agency ANI reported on Monday. Sasikala, a close aide of late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, is serving time after conviction in a disproportionate assets case.
In the report, submitted to the Home Department and Director General of Police (DGP) for Prison Department H N Sathyanarayana Rao, Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) Roopa claimed that Sasikala was being provided with an exclusive kitchen to cook her meals and relaxed visiting hours in exchange for a Rs 2-crore bribe to jail officials.
“There was a rumour that you are aware of it and were paid Rs 2 crore for this facility. All these allegations are unfortunate and hence you have to address the issue immediately and take action…” DIG Roopa requested Rao in her report.
DGP Rao, however, refuted the allegations saying he had never accepted anything from any prisoner. “We have not provided any special treatment to Sasikala. She is like any other woman prisoner and lodged in the first floor of the womens’ barrack. The allegations are baseless and there is no evidence for them,” Rao said. Sasikala paid Rs 2 crore bribe for VIP treatment in jail: DIG report. Click here to read.
The report also claimed that the medical staff in the prison department supplied drugs to prisoners along with listing other irregularities in the prison. Roopa said stamp paper scam accused Abdul Kareem was also being provided special facilities.
“Earlier, he was on wheelchair and court allowed people for his assistance. But now, when he is fine, why is this continuing? In fact, three or four undertrials are there to serve him, who even gave him hands and feet massage,” the statement read.
Reacting to Roopa’s transfer, Opposition leader and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy said: “Surprised. I think this govt (Karnataka govt) wants to protect illegal activities. Sasikala is lodged in the jail in connection with a disproportionate assets case
Four other officers have been transferred along with Roopa, including the state police intelligence chief M N Reddy. According to sources, Siddaramaiah had expressed anger on Sunday over the failure of the intelligence system in the prison affair and the communal tension in the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada.

Ganesh65 Ji,

Thanks for sharing this news ...

While you shared the news, I would like to share the comments here which are self-explanatory:

1. One Parthos has commented: This transfer was expected. Now Sasikala is the virtual jail superintendent and all kannadigas also along with Tamils will take orders from her. Long live our democracy and the corrupt bureacracy politician Nexus.

2. Devados Eswar has commented: THIS IS TOTALLY UNFAIR AND SHOWS THE AUTOCRATIC AT UE OF THE DEPT , WHICH CAN NOT BE QUESTIONED ! HAS TO BE CHALLENGED JUDICIALLY AS THE OFFICER HAS ONLY DONE HER DUTY IN THE RIGHT MEANING OF THE WORD !

3. One Mayasandra Varadharajan has commented: CM Sidd ah is the most CORRUPT CM in our Country and he is also very arrogant. In next election Congress will be reduced to less than 25 seats, thanks to Sidd ah.

4. One Venkatraman has commented: Have we no recourse against this blatant misuse of power?

5. One SEKHAR has commented: CAN'T THE SUPREME COURT TAKE THIS ISSUE SUO MOTO AND SET THE SITUATION RIGHT

6. One True Indian has commented: When top political brass to bottom is corrupt and divides nation, what will happen to citizens

7. One Manish Kumar has commented: This is a very unfortunate scenario in which she is transferred from the DIG prison because she has unearthed the mingling of officials with the convicts. In such scenario, how can one expects that such convicts be punished. Her transfer is completely illogical and morally wrong.

8. One Tax Payer has commented: In Karnataka - the FENCE is eating away the crop. .. What the former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy said is correct. Government of Karnataka is protecting illegal activities and punishing the honest officials. This is a clear evidence.

9. One Raviskhankar has commented: This is India! Genuine whistle blowers are always harassed, hounded and if possible killed. Slimy Siddaramaiah must have got a hefty portion of 2 crores! India is unlikely to ever reach the standards of a developed country. It will forever remain the world's slum ruled by corrupt politicians and bureaucrats! It will be the same even after 500 years!

As Karnakata govt shunts DIG Roopa out, muted reactions from TN politicians

Even the DMK, which has claimed strong ties with the Congress, is now mum on alleged perks given to Sasikala
The Karnataka Government has flippantly claimed that the transfer of IPS Officer Roopa Moudgil who was DIG (Prisons) to the Road Safety and Traffic Department is just routine. But the move which comes days after she alleged that AIADMK General Secretary Sasikala is getting undue favours in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, has left parties in Tamil Nadu in a lurch.

The transfer comes just two days after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah issued notices to both DIG Roopa Moudgil, and the officer that she has been involved in a very public spat with – DG (Prisons) Satyanarayana Rao. Last week, DIG Roopa Moudgil had submitted a report to the DGP which claimed that Sasikala had bribed prison officials with Rs 2 crore and was getting special treatment in return. The Chief Minister had slammed both the DG and the DIG for the leaking of Roopa’s report to the media.

Leading the muted 'controversy' charge is the O Panneerselvam faction of the AIADMK, which is certain political power and exchange of money has fuelled this decision. "The Congress Government has ordered a probe but instead of suspending the DG(Prisons) who allegedly took the bribe, they have suspended the whistleblower," says AIADMK MP V. Maitreyan. "There is clearly a political motive behind the transfer. What this requires now is an investigation which is impartial and cannot be influenced by the state government," he adds.

The Tamil Nadu Congress however, dismissed the charge and proceeded to defend Chief Minister Siddaramiah. "We appreciate Roopa for fighting corruption. This by no means a punishment posting," says Congress spokesperson S. Jothimani. "She has been shifted to ensure a free and fair probe into the matter," she claims.

Sasikala case: PAC wants stern action

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the state legislature on Friday directed the Home Department to immediately suspend all those responsible for providing special treatment to AIADMK leader Sasikala at Bengaluru central prison.

The PAC, which is reviewing prison reforms, also directed Principal Secretary (Home) P K Garg to submit within 15 days a detailed report on irregularities in prisons in the state, including Bengaluru Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara.

Senior officials of the Prisons Department also appeared before the panel which held its meeting at the Vidhana Soudha. Senior BJP leader R Ashoka is the chairman of the committee.

Sources said the PAC members sought to know under what rules the prison authorities allotted five rooms to Sasikala. ADGP (Prisons) N S Megharikh and DIG (Prisons) H S Revanna, who had appeared before the committee, are learnt to have said that they were new to the posts and assured that they will submit a report in this regard shortly.

IPS officer D Roopa recently submitted a report to the government on irregularities and corruption in Bengaluru Central Prison. She had accused the prison authorities of taking Rs 2 crore bribe from Sasikala for providing special treatment, triggering a major controversy. The government, however, transferred her from the post of DIG (Prisons).
