I would like to know on this subject
How a lagna pathrigai is written
At the time things must be offered to the bride and bride's parents etc.

லக்னப் பத்திரிகையின் மாதிரி ஒன்றைக் கீழே தந்துள்ளேன். இது இரு குடும்பத்தினருக்கும் பொதுவான ஒன்று. இரண்டு பிரதிகள் எடுத்து இரு குடும்பத்தினரும் கையெழுத்திட்டுப் பரிமாறிக்கொள்ளுவது வழக்கம்.

லக்னப்பத்திரிக்கை வைபவம் ஒரு சமூக விழா. வைதீகச் சடங்குகளோ ஹோமம் வளர்த்து மந்திரங்கள் சொல்லுவதோ இல்லை என்று நினைக்கிறேன். மேலும் இது பற்றிய விபரங்களை விஷயம் தெரிந்த பெரியவர்கள் சொன்னால் எல்லோருக்கும் உதவியாக இருக்கும்.

பரிபூரண அனுக்ரஹத்துடனும், பெரியோர்களின் ஆசியாலும், இரு குடும்பங்களின் பரிபூரண சம்மதத்துடனும், நிச்சயிக்கப்பெற்று, விவாஹ சுப முஹூர்த்தத்தை இரு தரப்பினருக்கும் சௌகரியமான நன்னாளில் ........ மாநகரில் நடத்துவதாக முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டு, இன்று இந்த சுபமுஹூர்த்தத்தில் இங்கு கூடியிருக்கும் பெரியோர்கள், உறவினர்கள், நண்பர்கள், அன்பர்கள் முன்னிலையில் இந்தத் தாம்பூலம் நிச்சய தாம்பூலமாக இருதரப்பினருக்கிடையே பரிவர்த்தனை செய்து கொள்ளுகிறோம்.

In the traditional "smaartha" niscayadaartam as was observed till some years ago, among Kerala Iyers, there was no practice of such "written and signed" agreement. The vaadhyaar or purohit from the groom's side performs a ganesha pooja as an invocatory rite and then the two sides exchange dresses, ornaments, fruits, flowers, taamboolam (very important). The groom and the bride wear the gifted dresses and usually a golden ring is gifted by the groom's parents to the bride which she wears on the maNDapam itself. Then the vaadhyaar orally announces, more or less on the same lines as i the written contract and his announcement is followed by mangalavaadyam (naadaswaram & tavil, keTTimELam) or simple ringing of a bell.

Of late this function has also taken over certain elements of flaunting of wealth by both sides and tends to ape the north Indian style of sagaayee, even among tabras.

I would like to add a small point to what our learned friend Sangom has written. Apart from the Ganapati pooja, there is also a navagraha preethi which generally is a dhanam (lagna apekshaya) taken by the vadhyar. After that the lagnapatrika is read out and both the parties exchange Pakku Vettalai.
