Hello,
I would like to know if it is still a practice that the boy cannot marry for one year after the death of his mother. Can you tell me also if this is widely practiced among Iyangar Brahmins. thank you.

Hello,
I would like to know if it is still a practice that the boy cannot marry for one year after the death of his mother. Can you tell me also if this is widely practiced among Iyangar Brahmins. thank you.

I find from experience that if the boy is the one who does the pitrukarmam (eldest son) marriage is done within one year so that he is married by the time of the anniversary rites (aattasraaddham, we say).

Thank you for your answer.
If he is not the boy who has done the pitrukarmam, if he is the younger son, then is it a practice to wait for one year before marriage?

Dear Madam(M/s.SavitaKumar,)
My last daughter was married to second son(elder brother already married)of a Family in MAY,1995 and he lost his father in August,1994.In fact the boy's family was eager to arrange the marriage within one year.
There was no objection from the Sastrigals of both sides.
