Quotable Quotes Part II

Moderation is the mantra for good living.
Anything in excess is undoubtedly harmful -
whether it is sleep, food, drink, money
or any type of indulgence and enjoyment.
Who would dare to doubt Krishna's words???

Quotation

Every quotation contributes something to the
stability of enlargement of the language.
Samuel Johnson

Some, for renown, on scraps of learning dote,
And think they grow immortal as they quote.
Edward Young
.

(Well! you have just proved your own quote--if proof were needed!)

Race
God hath made of one blood all nations of men.
Acts 17:26

No one has been barred on account of his race from fighting
or dying for America--there are no 'white' or colored' sign
on the foxholes or graveyards of battle.
John. F. Kennedy.

Race

Morality knows nothing of the geographical
boundaries or distinctions of race.
Herbert Spencer

Freedom is an indivisible word.
If we want to enjoy it, and fight for it,
we must be prepared to extend it to everyone
whether they are rich or poor, whether they agree
with us or not, no matter what their race or the color of their skin.

Death and fear of death make men noble and generous!!!
What a wonderful concept to donate what will be taken away from you anyway
to reserve a spot in the heaven by becoming instantly good like the 777 products!

Americans did it in 2010 and are again doing it now.
I am sure I will see many of them in the street junctions
during my next visit to USA, holding a placard saying,
"I am homeless! Please help me!"

Dear VR maam, i have read, and have seen in many hollywood movies on this placard holding thing in US. Since you have seen that would like to know what purpose does it serve? By holding a help me placard does the person gets lot of money ? ( can we call this a polished way of begging?) have seen cartton as well a beggar sort of person sitting beside a placard " world comes to an end- pls help"... Is that the person does not want to spend his energy in asking people for money or is that he is ashamed to ask but feels comfortable in holding a placard asking for help? Can you throw some light on this?

cheers.

When the world ends, does the beggar have any hope to enjoy his 'pichchai' money??

Let me share one of my experiences. Once my son left a cola bottle ON a trash can, after drinking about half of it.

I asked him why he did not finish it and throw it in the trash can. He requested me to wait and watch! To my utter

surprise a shabbily dressed man came and took the bottle to drink! Who said the U S of A does not have beggars?

dear Mr. Manohar Kumar,

There is unemployment and poverty even in USA.

T
he social Security may give the people food and a place to sleep
(I hope it does)

B
ut there will be other needs for which people need money.

There is no shame in asking for help from people who are willing to help.

They won't chase, hunt, touch and bother the passers by.

My sons never pass by such a person without donating at least 1 or 2 USD.

O
nce two persons were siting together. Probably the passers by had given them one dollar to be shared .

When they flashed the victory sign that they need at least 2 dollars, one for each, my younger son who did not smaller changes gave 5 bucks.

Their eye popped out of their sockets and they blessed the whole family and the generations to come.

P
eople are so similar everywhere despite the difference in their culture and skin color.

Now a days my younger son carries a few 1 dollar bills just for donating.

Those who do not hold placards sing / play any musical instrument and leave a real top hat for collecting the green money.

Usually the top hat appears filled to the top.

Or they may perform some street shows, juggling acts... anything to entertain us before asking for our money.

Some super specialists learn all the national anthems.
When they see that we are from India immediately
"jana gana mana" is sung / played to its full glory.
Who won't feel proud to hears one's national anthem
in a foreign soil and feel happy to donate some money?

A Los Angelas Times columnist Steve Lopez has written a book "The Soloist" based on the real life story of a violin and a cello virtuoso, Nathaniel Ayers (Julliard School dropout) who becomes a homeless man (due to mental illness) .

"There is a time and place for everything!"
(The advice I gave to my younger son's classmate whom I heard bragging about his financial
security to a co-passenger. He had become practically bald in his top of his dome and had no time to think about marriage.)
By the time he finds time to think about marriage, he would have crossed the marriageable age and no girl would want to marry a man with shining (sparkling?) dome anyway.

Reading

If we encountered a man of rare intellect,
we should ask him what books he read.
Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Reading is to the mind
what exercise is to the body.
Sir Richard Steele

Reading

Reading is sometimes an ingenious device for avoiding thought.
Sir. Arthur Helps

(I disagree since I think that the more things we read about

the more things we tend to think and ponder about!)

Life being very short, and the quiet hours of it few,
we ought to waste none of them in reading useless books.
John Ruskin

(No need to worry about the non existing problem!
Many people do not waste it even in reading good books!)
