சென்னை லயோலா கல்லூரி மாணவர்கள் நேற்று (செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை) வகுப்புகளைப் புறக்கணித்து, கல்லூரி வாயிலில் அமர்ந்து போராட்டம் நடத்தினர். அதன் நீட்சியாக இன்றும் அவர்கள் போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டு வருகின்றனர்.

The court rejected their plea.
The couple, who chose to remain anonymous in the much-publicised case, said in media interviews that they did not have the wherewithal – emotional and financial – to take care of the child, while doctors could not indicate the infant’s expected life span.
The baby died a fortnight ago.
“There was no treatment available for the baby. Pus was flowing from the brain. The mother was home and cared for the baby for a month and a half,” said Nikhil Datar, a Mumbai-based gynaecologist, whom the couple consulted.
Datar guided the couple to file the abortion petition in the Supreme Court citing the foetus’s abnormality.

What happened to the revenue earned by the Tamil Nadu Government’s Cash-cow TASMAC....?
It is reported there is a 25% revenue loss due closure of 500 TASMAC outlets due to Supreme Court ruling.
Opposition parties may highlight this now.....followed by protests, etc
Scholarship for SC/ST students in TN cut by 33 per cent
Tamil Nadu has not received the full amount it demanded from the Centre for scholarships in the past nine years.
Even as protests over the death of a medical aspirant from a backward community in Ariyalur continue in Tamil Nadu, the state has slashed scholarship for SC/ST students by a third.
This is due to a fund crunch and is bound to affect nearly 1.5 lakh students who want to pursue engineering, medicine, law and other streams, reports ToI.
The state's total demand under this scheme for scholarships, according to reports, was Rs.1,279 crore in 2016-17 and more than half of it is yet to be disbursed. Due to this, there will be a cut in scholarship for Dalit and tribal students in private colleges under management quota. An order to this effect has been passed.
Tamil Nadu has allegedly not received the full amount it demanded from the Centre in the past nine years.
Many students reportedly drop out of college citing inability to pay fees - an expense that is to be borne by the government and whose payment has been riddled with delays.
Dalit and tribal medical students, who had been receiving up to Rs 12.5 lakh each annually under the management quota, will now get only up to Rs 4 lakh, which is the limit fixed for such students' medical education under the government quota.

While it is reported that the Tamil Nadu Government is facing financial crisis,
there appears to be no dearth for agitations and demonstration by the public
against the Governments both at the Centre and the State viz the protests of farmers demanding waiver of Bank loans, protests against Neduvasal Hydrocarbon projects, Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant projects and Methene Extraction Projects, etc etc

Why No Action Against Politicians Whose Assets Rose By 500%? Is This The Attitude Of Indian Govt?” SC To Centre
Acting on a public interest litigation (PIL), the Supreme Court on Wednesday, September 6, took the centre to task for not disclosing action taken against politicians whose assets have jumped manifold between two elections. The apex court has given the centre seven days’ time to submit the necessary information before it.
The PIL was filed filed by Lucknow-based NGO Lok Prahari, that wants amendment in election law to make it necessary for a candidate to disclose his and his family’s sources of income at the time of filing nomination form, Hindustan Times reported.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is tasked action against politicians whose assets have seen an enormous jump, in some cases by as high as 500%, after their elections. The government’s counsel failed to provide data on how many enquiries the CBDT initiated action against.
The advocate representing the centre said the government was “serious” about its intention to clean the system.
“All stakeholders need to be taken on board. Data needs to be elicited before we can suggest the changes,” he said. The advocate cited the Centre’s flagship project – Swachh Bharat (Abhiyan) – and said “It is not about cleaning of garbage only.”
The bench, however, was not convinced. It retorted: “This affidavit is not worth the piece of paper it’s written on … You are not averse to electoral reforms but have not placed any necessary details. Is this the attitude of the government of India? What have you done till now?”

CBI books Jayanthi Natarajan, carries out searches
The case pertains to clearance given for diversion of forest land at Saranda Forest in Jharkhand’s Singhbhum District to a mining company in violation of Forest (Conservation) Act in 2012.
The Central Bureau of Investigation on September 9 conducted searches at the Chennai premises of former Union Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan in connection with alleged irregularities in the approval to a proposal for leasing of 56 hectare forest land to a private firm for mining of iron and manganese ores in Jharkhand’s Singhbhum district.
The agency has registered a case against Ms. Natarajan and others under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The case is based on the findings of a preliminary enquiry into the allegations that during 2005, unknown officials of the Jharkhand government had recommended the proposal by Electrosteel Casting Limited for leasing of 192.5 hectare land at Saranda Forest in Singhbhum.
The proposal, then forwarded to the Environment Ministry, was approved in February 2012, allegedly in violation of the existing mining laws, environment laws and the directions of the Supreme Court, alleges the FIR. It also names Umang Kejriwal, the then managing director of Odisha-based Electrosteel Casting and the company itself, for involvement in the alleged conspiracy.

Will our politicians think seriously about this solution and fight for its implementation, at least now..
It is reported in this article that Education was State subject once, more particularly before emergency…
If that is true, it is our politicians who are solely responsible for today's state of affair
They failed to fight and claim..
While every State has different political parties, different languages, different culture, etc ..why not the Education policy too…. ??

நீட் பிரச்சனையில் மத்திய மாநில அரசுகள் நம் ஏழை எளிய கிராமப்புற மாணவச் சமுதாயத்திற்கு இழைத்திருக்கும் அநீதி எந்த வகையிலும் மன்னிக்கக் கூடியதன்று. கல்வியைப் பொதுப் பட்டியலிலிருந்து மாநிலப் பட்டியலுக்கு மாற்றுவது ஒன்றுதான் நிரந்தரத் தீர்வாக இருக்க முடியும்.
மண் சார்ந்த கல்விக்கு முற்றுப்புள்ளி வைத்து ஒரே நாடு, ஒரே இனம், ஒரே மொழி என்ற இந்திய ஒருமைப்பாட்டுக்குச் சற்றும் ஒத்துவராத சித்தாந்தத்தை நடைமுறைப் படுத்த முயலும் மோடி அரசின் மறைமுகச் செயல் திட்டத்தை முறியடிக்க வேண்டும் என்றால் தனித் தனியாக மேடை போட்டு முழங்குவதை நிறுத்தி விட்டு ஆளும் அதிமுக உட்பட அனைத்துக் கட்சித் தொண்டர்களும் பொது மக்களும் ஒன்று கூடி அறவழியில் போராட முற்பட வேண்டும்.
மக்கள் தங்கள் நலனைப் பாதுகாக்க பெருந்திரளாகக் கூடிக் குரல் கொடுப்பது ஜனநாயக அரசியல் தந்திருக்கும் அடிப்படை உரிமையாகும். அந்த உரிமையைப் பாதுகாப்பது நீதி மன்றத்தின் கடமையாகும். இதில் சட்டம் ஒழுங்குப் பிரச்சினைக்கு இடம் இருக்க வாய்ப்பில்லை.
இந்திரா காந்தி பிரதமராக இருந்த போது நெருக்கடி நிலையைப் பயன்படுத்திக் கல்வியை மாநிலப் பட்டியலிலிருந்து பொதுப் பட்டியலுக்கு மாற்றியதால் தான் இன்று மோடி அரசு கல்வித் துறையில் முடிந்த வரை மூக்கை நீட்ட முடிகிறது. திமுக 14 ஆண்டுகள் மத்திய அரசில் இடம் பெற்றிருந்த போதிலும், முதல் ஐக்கிய முற்போக்குக் கூட்டணி அரசு கருணாநிதியின் தயவால் மன்மோகன் சிங் தலைமையில் அமைந்த போதும் கல்வியை மாநிலப் பட்டியலுக்கு மற்ற எந்த வலிமையான முயற்சியையும் மேற்கொள்ளவில்லை. ஜெயலலிதா 15 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேல் தமிழக முதல்வராக இருந்த போதும் கல்வியை மாநிலப் பட்டியலுக்கு மாற்ற எந்தத் தீவிர நடவடிக்கையும் முன்னெடுக்கவில்லை.
இரண்டு திராவிடக் கட்சிகளும் இந்தப் பிரச்சினையில் குற்றவாளிக் கூண்டில் நிறுத்தப் பட வேண்டியவை தான் என்பது கசப்பான உண்மை

நீட் பிரச்சனையில் மத்திய மாநில அரசுகள் நம் ஏழை எளிய கிராமப்புற மாணவச் சமுதாயத்திற்கு இழைத்திருக்கும் அநீதி எந்த வகையிலும் மன்னிக்கக் கூடியதன்று. கல்வியைப் பொதுப் பட்டியலிலிருந்து மாநிலப் பட்டியலுக்கு மாற்றுவது ஒன்றுதான் நிரந்தரத் தீர்வாக இருக்க முடியும்.
மண் சார்ந்த கல்விக்கு முற்றுப்புள்ளி வைத்து ஒரே நாடு, ஒரே இனம், ஒரே மொழி என்ற இந்திய ஒருமைப்பாட்டுக்குச் சற்றும் ஒத்துவராத சித்தாந்தத்தை நடைமுறைப் படுத்த முயலும் மோடி அரசின் மறைமுகச் செயல் திட்டத்தை முறியடிக்க வேண்டும் என்றால் தனித் தனியாக மேடை போட்டு முழங்குவதை நிறுத்தி விட்டு ஆளும் அதிமுக உட்பட அனைத்துக் கட்சித் தொண்டர்களும் பொது மக்களும் ஒன்று கூடி அறவழியில் போராட முற்பட வேண்டும்.
மக்கள் தங்கள் நலனைப் பாதுகாக்க பெருந்திரளாகக் கூடிக் குரல் கொடுப்பது ஜனநாயக அரசியல் தந்திருக்கும் அடிப்படை உரிமையாகும். அந்த உரிமையைப் பாதுகாப்பது நீதி மன்றத்தின் கடமையாகும். இதில் சட்டம் ஒழுங்குப் பிரச்சினைக்கு இடம் இருக்க வாய்ப்பில்லை.
இந்திரா காந்தி பிரதமராக இருந்த போது நெருக்கடி நிலையைப் பயன்படுத்திக் கல்வியை மாநிலப் பட்டியலிலிருந்து பொதுப் பட்டியலுக்கு மாற்றியதால் தான் இன்று மோடி அரசு கல்வித் துறையில் முடிந்த வரை மூக்கை நீட்ட முடிகிறது. திமுக 14 ஆண்டுகள் மத்திய அரசில் இடம் பெற்றிருந்த போதிலும், முதல் ஐக்கிய முற்போக்குக் கூட்டணி அரசு கருணாநிதியின் தயவால் மன்மோகன் சிங் தலைமையில் அமைந்த போதும் கல்வியை மாநிலப் பட்டியலுக்கு மற்ற எந்த வலிமையான முயற்சியையும் மேற்கொள்ளவில்லை. ஜெயலலிதா 15 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேல் தமிழக முதல்வராக இருந்த போதும் கல்வியை மாநிலப் பட்டியலுக்கு மாற்ற எந்தத் தீவிர நடவடிக்கையும் முன்னெடுக்கவில்லை.

New Delhi: An MLA of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi has been stripped of his citizenship by the Union Home Ministry after it was found that he held a German passport.
Ramesh Chennamaneni, TRS MLA from Vemulawada in Karimnagar district of Telangana, had allegedly obtained Indian citizenship by submitting "fake documents" and was elected thrice to assembly, including in a bypoll.
The citizenship of Chennamaneni was cancelled after a court-directed investigation found that he was a German national, a home ministry official said.

Salute to brave women soldiers of Indian Air Force
2 brave Army widows return to join the forces
Chennai: Lieutenant Swati Mahadik and Lieutenant Nidhi Mishra bestowed a special flavour to the passing out parade of Officers Training Academy (OTA) this year, which took place 9 September.
While these two women were among the 322 cadets who passed out from the academy on that day, there is something that made these two women stand apart. These women cadets are Veer Naris (brave women, wives of armed forces personnel who died in service) and what made them different was their choice.
Their better-halves (husbands) died while in service and they could have settled in any other job comfortably, but they did not do it and decided to join the Army and serve the nation just like their husbands did.
Nidhi Mishra’s husband Naik Mukesh Kumar Dubey died due to heart trouble in 2009. She worked as an executive in a HR firm and also as a teacher in an Army school. “I read about Priya Semwal, a veer nari, who too joined the Army, and taking inspiration from her, I made up my mind to join the armed services and dedicate my self to the nation,” said Nidhi Mishra.
She later on met E V Reddy, the centre commandant of Mahar Regiment where her husband used to work and knew her, who guided her to Colonel M P Singh. “It was here I got the guidance on how to clear the written test and face the physical tasks.
Things were not easy, as I had an eight-year-old son, Suyash, who had to be taken care of. But thanks to the support from my family – my parents stood by me – I marched towards my goal,” said the lady cadet.

Oil bath tradition has scientific backing: Expert
Chennai: Deepavali is here, so are the crackers and new dresses. However, there is one more uniqueness of the festival, which is taking oil bath on the day. With changes in time, there are revisions in our tradition and custom. Over a period of time, this custom has faded due to lifestyle changes.
But behind this custom, there seems to be a scientific explanation. Principal scientist of a personal care products company, Lakshmi Thiagarajan, shares her expertise on the concept of oil bath.
In recent years, the tradition of taking oil bath is slowly going down and this can be mainly attributed to a fast moving lifestyle.
BREAK THE MYTHS
The scientist says, “There are certain myths among the younger generation regarding oil bath – that it will lead to excess oilyness of the skin and hair will have lint, etc. Some are even frightened that they may get cold or sinus problem. But the truth this, if they make this a routine, they can come out of both their physical and mental problems. Health issues caused due to pollution and stress can be dealt easily with oil bath.”
“Some of our recent researches on people’s nature of going back to our tradition have proved that people try consuming traditional foods like millets, sprouts, etc. In that case, I would suggest people should also involve in tracing back our traditional customs like oil bath which has huge scientific values,” she added.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Explaining the importance of applying oil, Lakshmi says there is a natural oil secretion everywhere in our skin and scalp called ‘sebum’.
She adds that over a period of time, due to pollution, the secretion gets eroded. In order to balance the presence of oil in our body, oil bath becomes essential. A good massage would take away the dead skin cells in the scalp and improve blood circulation with which the inner tissues are nourished and re-vitalised. This greatly improves complexion and skin tone, skin layer will be mosturised and dryness can be swept away.
Above all, this gives a stress-free, relaxed feeling by inducing good and peaceful sleep. As the proverb suggests, ‘En saan udambukku thalaye pradhanam‘ (head is primary for a body) this is the only custom that stresses the importance of head, that too the topmost part of the head. Applying oil in the hair nourishes hair growth, reduces breakage and split ends, smooths hair follicles, protects hair colour, etc. Though there are genetic reasons, they can be postponed,” Lakshmi adds.

Visakhapatnam: Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Mondaycommissioned the indigenously built anti-submarine warfare stealth corvette INSKiltan at the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam.
Kiltan is the latest indigenouswarship after Shivalik class, Kolkata class and sister ships INS Kamorta andINS Kadmatt to have joined the Indian Navy's arsenal wherein a plethora ofweapons and sensors have been integrated to provide a Common OperationalPicture (COP), an official release said.
It is India's first major warship to have a superstructure of carbon fibre composite material resulting in improved stealth features, lower top weight and maintenance costs, it said.
Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command HS Bisht and other senior officers attended the event at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam.

India got its first national-level Ayurveda institute with Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicating the All India Institute of Ayurveda to the country here today and promising an ayurveda hospital in every district.
Modelled along the lines of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the new ayurveda institute will provide patient care and promote research in integrated medicine.
Speaking on the inauguration, the PM lamented the loss of ancient Indian wisdom and said the government was making all out efforts to promote the AYUSH systems of medicine. He also appealed to ayurveda practitioners to develop pain killers with zero side effects and said ayurveda and yoga can together help sportspersons and Armed Forces personnel a lot.
“Every sportsperson hires a physiotherapist to avoid the side effects of pain killers. Ayurveda should create capacities to develop world-class ayurveda physiotherapists,” said the PM, adding that herbal plantations with medicinal value would soon emerge as a new area for employment for Indians.
Sharing Dhanvantari Jayanti wishes with people on the occasion of the National Ayurveda Day, the PM said no nation could ever progress by squandering and ignoring its heritage. “Nations that abandon their heritage lose their identity,” he noted.
He said when India was servile, its knowledge, yoga and ayurveda traditions were undermined and belittled.
“Attempts were made to reduce the faith that Indians had in traditional medicine systems. In the last three years, this situation has changed to quite an extent and people’s trust in traditional systems is being restored. This pride in heritage is reflected by the way people gather to celebrate Ayurveda Day or Yoga Day,” he said, asking the AYUSH Ministry to work for certification of practitioners at every level of ayurveda education rather than upon the completion of 5 years.

The state government is all set to ban pillion riding on two-wheelers that have an engine capacity of 100 cc or below. The ban, however, will not affect two-wheelers that are already in use, but will be applicable for any new vehicle being sold. While manufacturers will have to ensure such bikes have seating for only the rider, the buyer too will be prohibited from making provision for a pillion rider.
The transport department has decided to enforce the ban in view of the safety of pillion riders who are, too often, victims in road accidents. To this end, the state government has even filed an affidavit before the High Court, and the official circular may be out in a week’s time.
Confirming the move, Transport Minister HM Revanna told Bangalore Mirror that the government is only complying with the Motor Vehicles Act. “The High Court of Karnataka had sought an explanation from the state government while hearing an accident case in which a youngster had died. Responding to the HC’s direction, we filed an affidavit that we will comply with the Motor Vehicles Act, which does not allow pillion riding on bikes up to 100 cc.”
A senior officer from the transport department said: “Going by the provisions of Motor Vehicles’ Act, any bike or scooter with an engine capacity up to 100 cc should not have provision for a pillion rider. However, these rules were relaxed based on the recommendations of Indian Road Congress. This will not be the case, henceforth.”
A majority of two-wheelers in the market today are above 100 cc engine capacity, so the ban may not change life on the road drastically
