I am surprised to read this for the 2nd time in forum....I have never heard of top portion of sambar being used as rasam by those who are not Tamil Brahmins.

The recipe for rasam is totally different from sambar.

Kuzhambu is quite a common word used even in Non TB homes.

BTW why isnt the Sanskrit word for Sambar used in India?

The Sanskrit word for Sambar is kvathita

Sambar is corruption. It is either paruppu kuzhambu, milagu kuzhambu or vatta kuzhambu etc.

One more is arachchuvitta kozhambu, with added coconut! Yummy!
