Every once in a while I read about this in some form or the other, cyber or written medium. It never fails to disturb me, that Rajaji closed schools, in a country where there was an overwhelming illiteracy.

The people who write this, are those I like and respect....

Here is one such posting today...about Kamaraj, Rajaji, kulakalvi and how it is perceived by NB Tamils. How can someone be without empathy and desire to bring the population up in terms of literacy and standard of living? was it so elitist? each time I read about this, I really wonder about the attitudes of the ruling cliques of those times...prior to Kamaraj.

This is nothing but the fertile mind of a indoctrinated individual indulging in presenting half truths and imaginary scenes in a rural area. Conveniently the "boy" the immediate hero is completely forgotten because he was brought in to just facilitate the uncovering of the "great leader's" moment of glory just like the Buddha got it under the Bodhi tree. At least the bodhi tree is venerated unlike the boy here. Now let us see how half truths(HT) have been presented here to hoodwink the gullible readers.

HT 1. The "great leader" had an eye opening experience when he had to get down from a bus and take a walk. Reason: The midday meal programme was already in existence in The Travancore-Cochin state. The great leader(GL) only copied it. It did not require a cowboy to suddenly reveal the condition and real problem of poor boys and girls in the country.

HT 2. Rajaji's education bill was most misunderstood and maligned piece of legislation. It was never said anywhere in the proposal that the education should be reserved to only the forward castes. It was a system in which the boys and girls were asked to study their traditional skills along with their western style school education. They were asked to share their time equally between the two. It is all dravidian politics which twisted this scheme into a "kulakkalvi" and used to the hilt to sell hatred opium in the minds of people. To elaborate, if you are from a family of carpenters you will learn carpentry from your father in the forenoon session at your home and will come to school in the afternoon to study the modern education. If you were from a family of farmers you will learn farming from your father in the morning and come to school in the afternoon for modern education. Can anyone point out what was wrong with this education system? This idea came out of the basic fact that India for centuries had a village economy which never was prone to devastation caused by wars, famines and epidemics. Wars were fought and yet the village economy was continuing gloriously because it was self sustaining. It never depended on a centralised capital subscription, a vast production line which was sustained by economy of scale and large army of labourers or machines which were all capital intensive. A war may be raging and yet the village will have its own production unaffected because the resources were all local-capital, labour, land, market and everything. A feeble attempt was made by the govt. at that time to sustain this alternative model to the European model of centralised and localised production and distribution through length and breadth of the country. The education system which was derisively called "kulakkalvi" by the shortsighted dravidian casteist politicians was to suffer a still birth because of the mindless hatred and third rate politics of the kazhagam politicians at that time and even the "great leader" was no exception to that mindset at that time. Some one has to speak the truth.
