The puja on naraka chaturdashi is very simple...We pray to God early in the morning before we have an oil bath...We do Naivedyam of sweets, savouries, new dresses, boiled oil , sigaikai podi, crackers
Lakshmi Pooja to be done during Amavasya kalam
It differs from state to state. kindly see the web site www.drikpanchang.com . they have given more details. you may do as per your state. In tamil nadu
state it is very simple. but in north india they are celebrating for 6 days. on 16th govathsa dwadasi; on 17th dhanvanthri puja and yama deepam; on
18th yama tharpanam and dipavali; and on 19th lakshmiand ganapathy pooja and kedhar gowri pooja; on 20th govardhana puja; and new year starts for gujarathis; and on 21st yama dwithiyai.

Diwali during our childhood days:
The day before Diwali:
Amma makes lots of yummies and will NOT allow us to touch them - they are for neivEdhyam on Diwali morning.
At night:
Mavu kOlams are drawn in front of swami altar, entrance of the house and corners of rooms. On a big maNai palagai,
all our new dresses are kept, after smearing a wee bit of turmeric powder in the corners. Boiled and cooled gingelly oil
is kept in a closed vessel.
We burst some crackers; light maththAppu, bushvANam, tharai chakkaram, vishnu chakkaram, sAttai etc. :boom:
Diwali morning:
We wake up early - to wear the new dress, fire crackers and eat yummies.
Amma will keep oil on our heads, singing 'Gowri kayana vaibhOgame.....' and one by one we have head bath. Then dressed
in a towel, come near the Swami altar. Appa would have finished his bath and give the new dress to each one of us. We wear
it and go to have fun with the crackers. Soon, we will be called for the neivEdhyam and kalpoora hArathi to Swami. After a
brief prayer, we eat the yummies along with an early breakfast - idlies and chutney! :hungry:
Oh ......... Golden days!

My Amma used to keep ALL yummies packed for neivEdhyam on Diwali day.
ray:We don't buy sweets or savories from the shops. I follow her, till date!
