Last rites and ceremonies during COVID-19

Sir, one of my relative died of COVID-19 positive and due to this his son could not do last rites before cremating.. Even the 13 days ceremonies he has to do with precautions with no relatives and family members from outstation. Hence request learned Brahmin priests or scholars to suggest a remedy or parihram if any due to this current COVID situation of handling the deceased person and the ceremonies to be followed. Thank you.

RIP ..Similar situations in all places and especially Brahmin community. We are binded by the spiritual aspects. I had enquired few pandits and erudite scholars in this Apara karyas. All that they say honestly we need to do rituals that has to be done. After a year we need to go Gokarna and do Moksha Narayana Bali and any other recommended Pooja's based on the Nakshatra of the deceased died on that particular date for any Doshas pariharam. For more information you can consult shringeri mutt arminstrator for more information.

It will be good if Kanchi Acharya or Sringeri Acharya suggest a simple solution at this present situation. A one day or maximum 3 days ceremony like North Indians who call it as chowtha that is the ceremony performed on fourth day with all relatives and friends. With that their ceremony is over.. We South Indian Brahmins are always faced with problems as we follow so much of traditions and customs and we believe in Athma , karma etc.

hi

i agreed with u....even my mother in law lives in delhi for than 50 years....she still follows south indian

brahmin tradions...its hard to digest to north indian system....may be possible some vadhyar

in KASHI can help you....becoz kashi/gaya priests very expert in antheysti kriyas...COVID 19 situation

new to everybody...even weddings are shorter....many temples closed...we brahmins have different

vedic practices too...like iyer/iyengar systems...many AATHU sampradayams too...its very difficult

to set one set of system....try your level best...finally help some orpanage/poor kids for their

food and education.....maanava seva is mahesan seva....

As per sasthra the cremation can be done by 35 kinds of persons in the priority order. (No need to worry). Afterwards the rituals are done by kartha (that is son) doing from ninth day (by combining all the days rituals on ninth day) and then 10,11, and 12 at somewhere in the place specified for this. Nowadays there is restriction in different places that with 15 members and some place with catering and in some only rituals. So you can do according to that. You have not mentioned which place you are going to do.

13th day may be done at home with limited number of members.

This is what happening in TN including Chennai.

If own house with space is available people started doing from first day itself with kartha only and later 10 and 13th days with limited number of members.

Thanks for many suggestions. As the full family has recovered from COVID, no one wants to take risk of conducting any rituals at home. So all rituals are planned only at mutt. Even 13th day in one mutt and bring home the punyajalam for sprinkling for shudi.
