The most shameful aspect of the entire tragic episode is that there was not a single man worth his salt from the crowd in the platform to try and neutralize the assassin. That speaks volumes for the veeram of this Tamil mann. Tamils will have to hang their heads in shame for generations to come because this tamilnadu could not produce a single fellow with guts to try and neutralize the hacker. For the other nemerous techies who travel by the same train it required just one of them throwing their backpack at the assailant and distracting him. It is unfortunate that we are becoming a country of cowards and imbeciles. It is time women start carrying a knife in their bags. LOL.

By standers of such crime have a moral responsibility to prevent the crime either by intervening or by protesting or by some other means to eliminate bullying behaviour as we are ethically bound to preserve peace.

But we do see in real life, most bystanders without guts, prefer to escape harms. It is unfortunate and shame that we do live among few such people.

And we do have some members in this very same Forum advocating to escape from such scene of crime.

It often happens that we are witness to a crime than being a criminal or victim of it. There is an accident wherein the victim is badly hurt and in need of immediate medical assistance; mostly people surround him out of curiosity than a human obligation to call for help, police, ambulance etc. If we find a violent quarrel on the street, or a person is being beaten by a mob, the general reaction of the public is to witness it than intervene to stop it. It is true, we did not start the fight nor are we directly hurt by the accident, but by staying without any motive to help or call for help is the clear definition of apathy and indifference which is unethical and even immoral as well. In the cases of eve-teasing for instance, the perpetrator is encouraged to continue his actions chiefly because the public turns a blind eye to him and the culprit is free to escalate his winks into an assault without any obstruction whatsoever. It is true, we are moulded since childhood to avoid risky situations, which is good strategy but where is the logic to watch without any objective to lend a hand. These and many instances call into question the general behaviour of people in the wake of an unfortunate incident like an accident or a street fight etc.

You are posting anonymously in a site, at least be honest to yourself. Instead of fantasizing a Movie hero see yourself in the mirror. If you take justice in your hand, you may end up dead, or the police may arrest you, or like TBSji said your family will be hunted down. So what point did you prove by your foolhardy adventure?

Here is a case which was reported few days back wherein bystanders swing into action, chased the culprit and handed over to police.

Only in movies we have heroes thrashing goondas with empty hand but in real life you must be preapred with a weapon and also be swift to act to drive away the people who come to attack you like this business man did and he saved his own life and the killers who came to kill him got frightened and ran away after seeing him taking out his pistol .This incident happend on Mon 27 June 2016 on the outskrits of Chennai .Not everyone will be allowed to have pistols but at least at Collage and Offices the students and staff must be trained in some form of self defence or at least trained how to react in such situations so that they can save their own life or at least help Police in nabbing the culprit .

Thirumaran immediately brandished his licensed gun. Seeing the gun, the biker who was throwing the bomb abandoned his two-wheeler on the road. The drivers of the two SUVs too abandoned their vehicles. The three then got on to two other bikes and the five men sped away from the scene in two bikes,” police said.

Vigilante leaders will always claim that their violent actions are being done for the good of the “people” or the common good of the country. There are times when vigilante justice results in some short term benefits.The most dreaded feature of vigilante justice is that the process for determining guilt is not transparent and the decision as to the gravity of the crime lies in the hands of the executioner – the vigilante.
For example, how and who determines which "gunda" is worth killing and which one can just be beaten up as a warning?
And we can go on and on. Is someone who drives recklessly and causes the death of bystanders subject to vigilante justice? And what about child rape? Is this more heinous than rice smuggling?

The problem is that the highly entertaining and emotionally satisfying legend of the Just Vigilante is only a fantasy — and one with possible harmful real-life effects.
First, it perpetuates the idea among our young that having corruption in government or big business justifies breaking the law. If you cheat on your taxes, shoplift from a department store, or don’t vote, aren’t you just sticking it to Corrupt Society? Getting a little street justice, instant karma, or political payback? No, you’re just emulating their despicable behavior. If you become just like your enemy, who’s really won?
Second, the vigilante fantasy encourages thinking of violence as the default method of solving problems. That’s the opposite of what this country stands for, which is reasoned, thoughtful debate in an effort to resolve differences peacefully. It is not meant to be an excuse to grab your guns and line up on the border threatening children. Or open carrying guns into public frightening patrons.
Third, it undermines the concept of justice by celebrating emotion over logic. Our judicial ethos proclaims that the only way to ensure justice is to deliberate rationally, without passion. Our vigilante heroes are often triggered by a rage for revenge due to the murder of a loved one. That’s the worst person to be in charge of seeking justice. Police blotters are filled with real revenge shootings in which the perpetrators killed the wrong people or innocent bystanders. We’ve seen how often an entire system of well-meaning professionals gets it wrong and convicts innocent people. Certainly the odds go up when one person without all the evidence judges guilt or innocence.
Fourth, many fictional vigilante heroes rationalize their actions because the villains “got out on a technicality” or “beat it through a legal loophole.” Nothing infuriates us more and we angrily blame our judicial system for these “technicalities” and “loopholes.” And yet, often the technicality or loophole that we so hate is actually something important, like searching without a warrant, racially profiling, or not reading Miranda rights. These aren’t minor “technicalities,” they are the foundation of the Indian ideal of protecting our people against the abuses of power. They are defending our Constitution as legitimately as soldiers on a front line. Yes, there will be miscarriages of justice because of these technicalities, but that doesn’t mean we dismantle the judicial system anymore than abandoning soldiers in a just cause just because we lose some to the miscarriage of friendly fire. We can’t parade around in tri-color flag getting teary-eyed when talking about patriotism, then turn around and complain about safeguards of the Constitution, the symbol of what we are being patriotic about.
There are times when the individual should stand up to the communal notions of right and wrong, as did Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., Medgar Evers, and Anna Hazere. But they did it with words, with courage, with intellect — not with violence. My hope is that we use the abundance of vigilante literature to fuel our outrage at injustice and to inspire us to, rather than cynically pull a trigger, fix what’s broken in our system through peaceful protest and the ballot box.

The 'heros' reported in Balu sir's post did NOT catch anyone with lethal weapons in their hands.

Now a real life incident: My second cousin's husband attempted for some heroic deed in early 70s. A gang of robbers entered

the train in which he was travelling and started snatching the gold ornaments of the passengers in the next cubicle in that

compartment. Hearing the screams of ladies, he tried to stop the robbers but he was stabbed in 12 places and died instantly!

At that time, his only daughter (now a popular dancer in Chennai) was just about 10 years old. :sad:

If I don’t mention a case of averting a crime (by a bystander) to be committed by one with a lethal weapon, it does not mean that such cases don’t reported.

One can apply to the Director General of Police, under Right to Information Act with a request to furnish the cases where a bystander intervened and averted a grave crime being committed.

We come across such bravery act by bystander now and then. It is social obligation.

உடனே போலீசார் அவர்களை விரட்டி சென்றனர். இதனால், அவர்கள் இருவரும் மறைத்து வைத்திருந்த கத்தியை எடுத்து, மிரட்டியபடி ஓடினர். அப்போது, அதே பகுதியை சேர்ந்த அண்ணாமலை என்பவர், எதிரே ஆட்டோவில் குழந்தைகளை பள்ளிக்கு அழைத்து சென்றார்.இவர், ஆட்டோவை நிறுத்திவிட்டு, போலீசார் துரத்திக் கொண்டு ஓடிய 2 பேரை பிடிக்க முயன்றார். அதில் ஒருவன், அண்ணாமலையை கத்தியால் இடது கையில் குத்தி விட்டு ஓடினான். இதை பார்த்த பொதுமக்கள், அந்த 2 ஆசாமிகளையும் விரட்டி சென்று, ஒருவனை பிடித்து தர்மஅடி கொடுத்தனர். பின்னர், சேலையூர் போலீசில் ஒப்படைத்தனர். போலீசார் வழக்குப்பதிவு செய்து விசாரித்தனர்.

அதில், ராமாபுரம், பாலஅம்பிகை தெருவை சேர்ந்த ராஜா (30) என்பதும், தப்பியோடியவர் வண்ணாரப்பேட்டையை சேர்ந்த ஜெபசிங் (38) என்பதும் தெரிந்தது.இவர்கள் பல்வேறு குற்ற வழக்குகளில் தொடர்புடையவர்கள் எனவும், அவர்கள் கொண்டு வந்தது திருட்டு பைக் எனவும் தெரியவந்தது. 2 வாலிபர்களும் கத்தியுடன் பைக்கில் சுற்றியதால் செயின் பறிப்பு, வழிப்பறி செய்ய வந்தவர்கள் என தெரிந்தது.இதனிடையே தப்பியோடிய வாலிபர், மீண்டும் சம்பவ நடந்த இடத்திற்கு வந்து பைக்கை எடுக்க முயன்றார். அப்போது, பொதுமக்கள் அவனை சுற்றி வளைத்து பிடித்து தர்மஅடி கொடுத்துபோலீசில் ஒப்படைத்தனர். பிடிபட்ட இருவரிடமும் போலீசார் தீவிரமாக விசாரித்து வருகின்றனர்.இதனிடையே காயம டைந்த ஆட்டோ டிரை வரை மீட்டு அங்கிருந்தவர் கள் மருத்துவமனையில் சேர்த்தனர். அங்கு அவருக்கு சிகிச்சை அளிக்கப் படுகிறது. பட்டப்பகலில் ஆட்டோ டிரைவரை வழிப்பறி ஆசாமிகள் கத்தியால் குத்திவிட்டு தப்பியோடிய சம்பவம் அப்பகுதியில் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியது.

மேட்டுப்பாளையம், ஊமப்பாளையத்தை சேர்ந்த மாரண்ணன் மனைவி சுப்புலட்சுமி, 65. இவர் நேற்று காலை 10:30 மணிக்கு, டி.ஜி.புதுாரில் உள்ள உறவினர் வீட்டுக்கு டீச்சர்ஸ் காலனியிலிருந்து நடந்து சென்று கொண்டிருந்தார். ரயில்வே பாலத்திற்கு கீழே செல்லும் போது, அதே வழியில் மோட்டார் பைக்கில் வந்த இருவர் மூதாட்டியிடம் வழி கேட்பது போல் அருகில் சென்று, அவருடைய கழுத்தில் இருந்த ஏழு சவரன் தாலி செயினை பறித்துக் கொண்டு பைக்கில் வேகமாக சென்றனர். உடனே சுப்புலட்சுமி, மொபைல் போனில், டி.ஜி.புதுாரில் உள்ள உறவினரிடம் செயின் பறிப்பு குறித்து தெரிவித்தார். அருகிலுள்ள ஜே.ஜே.,நகர் மக்கள் இருசக்கர வாகனங்களில் அதே வழியில் துரத்திச் சென்றனர்.

சிறிது தொலைவில் பெட்ரோல் இல்லாமல் மோட்டார் பைக்குடன் நின்று கொண்டிருந்த வாலிபர்கள் இருவரையும் மக்கள் பிடித்து, சரமாரியாக தர்ம அடி கொடுத்தனர். பின், அவர்களை காரமடை போலீஸ் ஸ்டேஷனில் ஒப்படைத்தனர். விசாரணையில், அவர்கள் மேட்டுப்பாளையம், பிருந்தாவன் நகரைச் சேர்ந்த பிரவீண், ௨௩. மேட்டுப்பாளையம், ராஜீவ் நகரைச் சேர்ந்த தினேஷ் குமார், ௨௩. என தெரிய வந்தது.

பூந்தமல்லி :பெண்களிடம் செயின் பறிக்கும் பைக் சகோதரர்களை பொதுமக்கள் துரத்தி பிடித்தனர். பூந்தமல்லி பகுதியில் நேற்று நடந்த சம்பவம், பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. பூந்தமல்லி, வளசரவாக்கம், போரூர், மாங்காடு, சென்னீர் குப்பம் உள்ளிட்ட பகுதியில் தனியாக நடந்து செல்லும் பெண்களிடம் செயின் பறிப்பு, வழிப்பறி கொள்ளை உள்ளிட்ட சம்பவம் நடந்து வந்தது. இரண்டு வருடங்களாக இது போன்ற சம்பவம் தொடர்கிறது. தனிப்படை போலீசார் வழிப்பறி ஆசாமிகளை தேடி வந்தனர். இந்த நிலையில், பூந்தமல்லி அடுத்த காட்டுப்பாக்கம், செந்தூர்புரம் அழகேசன் நகர் பகுதியை சேர்ந்தவர் பலராமன். இவரது மனைவி மகேஸ்வரி (28). நேற்று மாலை, மகேஸ்வரி மகளை நடன பள்ளியில் விட்டு விட்டு வீட்டிற்கு தனியாக நடந்து வந்தார். அப்போது பைக்கில் வந்த 2 வாலிபர்கள் அவர் அணிந்திருந்த 6 பவுன் நகையை பறித்தனர். மகேஸ்வரி கூச்சலிட்டார்.

சத்தம் கேட்டு அந்த வழியாக சென்றவர்கள் மற்றொரு பைக்கில் வழிப்பறி கொள்ளையர்களை துரத்தினர். சிறிது தூரத்தில் இருவரையும் மடக்கி பிடித்தனர். அதற்குள் அந்த பகுதி மக்கள் திரண்டனர். இதனால் அங்கு பரபரப்பு ஏற்பட்டது. சம்பவ இடத்திற்கு வந்த ரோந்து போலீசார் பொதுமக்களிடம் இருந்து வாலிபர்களை மீட்டு பூந்தமல்லி போலீஸ் நிலையத்தில் ஒப்படைத்தனர். போலீசார் விசாரித்ததில், பெண்ணிடம் செயின் பறித்தவர்கள் கொளத்தூரை சேர்ந்த ரமேஷ் கண்ணா (32), ரவி (28) என்பது தெரியவந்தது. இருவரும் சகோதரர்கள். கடந்த 2 வருடமாக பைக்கில் சென்று பெண்களிடம் செயின் பறிப்பு சம்பவங்களில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளனர். அவர்களிடம் போலீசார் தொடர்ந்து விசாரிக்கிறார்கள்.

பெரம்பலூர் மாவட்டம் தம்பை கிராமத்தை சேர்ந்தவர் ஜெயலட்சுமி. இவர் நேற்று வாலிகண்டபுரத்தில் உள்ள ஒரு வங்கியில், தன் கணக்கில் இருந்து ரூ.76, 000 பணம் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு வெளியே வந்தார்.

அப்போது யாரும் எதிர்பார்க்காத நேரத்தில், 2 நபர்கள் ஜெயலட்சுமி வைத்திருந்த பணத்தை சட்டென பறித்துக் கொண்டு ஓடினர்.

இந்த சம்பவத்தில் அதிர்ச்சியடைந்த ஜெயலட்சுமி, "காப்பாற்றுங்கள்... காப்பாற்றுங்கள்!" என பெரும் குரலில் கத்த, அங்கிருந்த பொதுமக்களில் சிலர் தப்பி ஓடிய 2 கொள்ளையர்களையும் துரத்தி பிடித்தனர்.

[h=1]7 கி.மீ. தூரம் துரத்தி துரத்தி கொள்ளையனைஅடித்துக் கொன்ற பொதுமக்கள்[/h]சேலம்:சேலம் மாவட்டம் வாழப்பாடி அருகே லாரியிலிருந்து பொருட்களை திருட முயன்ற கொள்ளையனை கிராம மக்கள் ஒன்று சேர்ந்து கற்களால் அடித்துக் கொலை செய்தனர். இன்னொருவனை துரத்திப் பிடித்தனர்.

வாழப்பாடி அருகே உள்ள திம்மநாயக்கன்பட்டி கிராமத்தில் உள்ள அரசு மேல் நிலைப்பள்ளி அருகே நிறுத்தி வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த ஒரு லாரியில் இருந்த பொருட்களை திருடும் முயற்சியில் 9 பேர் கொண்ட கும்பல் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தது.

இந்தக் கும்பலை அந்தக் கிராம மக்கள் பார்த்து விட்டனர். இதையடுத்து கொள்ளைக் கும்பலை கிராம மக்கள் வளைத்தனர். ஆனால் அவர்களிடமிருந்து கொள்ளையர்கள் தப்பி ஓடினர். ஆனாலும் விடாத கிராம மக்கள் கொள்ளைக் கும்பலைத் துரத்தினர்.

கிட்டத்தட்ட 7 கி.மீ தொலைவுக்கு கொள்ளையர்களை பொதுமக்கள் துரத்தினர். இதில் 2 பேர் சிக்கினர். மற்றவர்கள் தப்பிவிட்டனர்.
பிடிபட்ட இரு திருடர்களும், கத்தியால் கிராம மக்களை தாக்க முயன்றனர். இதனால் கிராம மக்கள் ெகாதிப்படைந்தனர். அத்தனை பேரும் சேர்ந்து கொள்ளையர்கள் மீது சரமாரியாக கற்களை வீசித் தாக்கினர்.

இதில் ஒருவர் மண்டை உடைந்து மயக்கமடைந்து கீழே விழுந்தார். இன்னொருவரை மடக்கிப் பிடித்த கிராம மக்கள் போலீஸுக்குத் தகவல் கொடுத்தனர். போலீஸார் வந்து பார்த்தபோது மயக்கமடைந்து கிடந்த கொள்ளையன் இறந்து விட்டான்.

இறந்த நபரின் பெயர் கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி. கூட்டாத்துப்பட்டி கிராமத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர். பிடிபட்ட கொள்ளையன் பெயர் செந்தில்குமார். இவர் உடையாப்பட்டி கிராமத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர். அவரை போலீஸார் கைது செய்தனர்.

கிராம மக்களிடம் சிக்கி கொள்ளையன் கொலை செய்யப்பட்ட சம்பவம் அப்பகுதியில் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது.

நகை திருடியவரை மரத்தில் கட்டி வைத்து தர்ம அடி

சிதம்பரம், டிச.13- நகை பாலீஸ் போடுவதாக கூறி பெண்ணிடம் நகை திருடிய கொல்கத்தா இளைஞரை மரத்தில் கட்டி வைத்து பொது மக்கள் தர்ம அடி கொடுத்ததால் பரபரப்பு ஏற்பட்டது. கடலூர் மாவட்டம் சிதம்பரம் அருகே உள்ள வல்லம்படுகை மெயின்ரோட்டை சேர்ந்தவர் லதா (வயது 33). இவரிடம் நேற்று மதியம் 2 இளைஞர்கள் நகை பாலீஸ் போட்டு தருவதாக கூறி பேச்சு கொடுத்தனர். இதை உண்மை என்று நம்பிய லதா தான் வீட்டில் வைத்திருந்த 13 கிராம் எடையுள்ள நகையை அவர்களிடம் கொடுத் தார்.

அவர்கள் நகையை பாலீஸ் போடுவதாக கூறி கெமிக்கல் போட்டு வாளியில் கொதிக்க வைத்தனர். இதையடுத்து 2 பேரில் ஒருவர் வேறு ஒரு வீட்டுக்கு சென்றார். இதற்கிடையில் லதா விடம் நகையை வாங்கிய இளைஞர் சற்று நேரத் தில் பாலீஸ் போட்ட தாக கூறி திருப்பி கொடுத்தார். நகையை வாங்கிய லதா எடை குறைவாக இருப்பதை உணர்ந்தார். அதற்குள் சுதாரித்துக்கொண்ட அந்த இளைஞர் தப்பி ஓட முயற்சி செய்தார்.

உடன் அவரை பொதுமக்கள் துரத்தி பிடித்தனர். லதாவின் நகையை எடை போட்டு பார்த்தனர். அதில் 13 கிராமுக்கு பதிலாக 9 கிராம் தான் இருந்தது. 4 கிராம் நகையை திருடி யது தெரிய வந்தது.

இதனால் ஆத்திர மடைந்த பொதுமக்கள் அந்த இளைஞரை தென்னை மரத்தில் கட்டி வைத்து தர்ம அடி கொடுத்தனர். இதை பார்த்த மற்றொரு இளைஞர் தப்பி ஓடி தலைமறைவாகி விட்டார். இது பற்றி அந்த இளைஞரிடம் காவல் துறையினர் நடத்திய விசாரணை யில், அந்த இளைஞர் கொல்கத் தாவை சேர்ந்த வர் என்றும், அவரது பெயர் சுரேஷ்குமார் என்றும் கூறினார். இருப் பினும் அந்த பெயர் உண்மை தானா? என் பது குறித்து காவல் துறையினர் தீவிர விசா ரணை நடத்தி வரு கின்றனர்.

You are right Sir,

The public who have gathered at the platform could have easily overpowered him and thus exhibited the society's collective responsibility

It is very unfortunate that this has not happened.

But few in this Forum started advocating their own principles of escaping from such scene of crime apprehending trouble.

There is no dearth for good Samaritans and real life heroes in the society.

NCW takes suo motu cognisance of Chennai techie murder case

The National Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognisance of Infosys techie murder case and written to Tamil Nadu director general of police and general manager of Southern Railway seeking an action taken report.

Based on the report, the NCW will take further course of action and, if required, shall constitute an inquiry committee to submit recommendations to the Centre.

Swathi, 24, was found murdered at Nungambakkam railway station in Chennai, triggering an outrage in civil society and among political parties.

a particular person. Almost all the movies have such scenes and these motivate the culprits to commit such heinous crimes

and go scot-free! But the movie makers say that they show ONLY what is happening in our society!

BTW, as Prasad Sir says, no one can stop such crimes because they will also become victims. :sad:

I was shocked to watch the scene in which the F.I.L of a young hero and the first cousin of the

same hero were betting as to who will get him killed first. It was as if they were planning to eat ice

cream in a parlor! Both arrange 'koolip padai' to kill the hero but we do not yet know which one's

koolip padai' got the golden opportunity to hack the hero in a dozen places ! :wacko:
