Hi all,
These are some of the amazing facts i thought to share..

There is only ONE word in the English language with THREE CONSECUTIVE SETS OF DOUBLE LETTERS.... Bookkeeper

In one day, a human sheds 10 billion skin flakes. This amounts to approximately two kilograms in a year.

Every square inch of the human body has about 19,000,000 skin cells.

The small intestine in the human body is about 2 inches around, and 22 feet long.

The width of your armspan stretched out is the length of your whole body.

People generally read 25% slower from a computer screen compared to paper

The highest recorded speed of a sneeze is 165 km per hour

Your eyes blinks over 10,000,000 times a year!

Women hearts beat faster than men

Scientists have discovered that the longer the ring finger is in boys the less chance they have of having a heart attack.

A giraffe can clean its ears with its 21-inch tongue!

You're born with 300 bones, but by the time you become an adult, you only have 206.

Camels have three eyelids to protect themselves from blowing sand.

More people are allergic to cow's milk than any other food.

"Rhythm" is the longest English word without a vowel.

A cockroach can live several weeks with its head cut off!

Right handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people

Fingernails grow nearly 4 times faster than toenails!

Jambu mama ....no reply to you.just keep your nail and hair as such donot cut them for 3 months , then see the difference take the measurement in Cm.take the difference of the length of nail or hair before 3 months

{length after 3 months(L)- lenght before 3 months(0)}

divide that by the amount 3 you get avg in month

eg:
{L-0}/3=growth in 1 month

{L-0}/3 / 30 or 31 gives growth in a day

take this value as R

Then take the readings for different months

Lt R-> 30 sigma R gives the avg deviation

Hahahahahaha

Dear friends it is not question of dead or alive. If we keep on piling something it will naturally grow. Just files in govt offices, love to your near and dear hatred towards anybody, Bhakthito lord. inactive cells also get piled up at toes and fingers. If you remove it it will be convenient to you and keep you higenic as unwanted particles wont stay there and make chance toget into your stomach to create further problems.

We for the time being have forgotten HIPPIES of seventies with lengthy hair lengthy nails etc. Ower own concept changes as time passes. Even in north India MEESAI illathavan than handsome. But in south, especially kerala ellavarum MEESAI MADHAVAN than.

Technically I am not able to drag the link to relevant site to this page I am sorry about my inability.

But in nut shell the following information may be useful

Basically growth is biological. One of the the difference between living & non living things is Biological Growth. Crystal growth seen when crystals are dropped in supersaturated solutions are not biological growth where no metabolism is involved only some mass or particle added to a crystal simple physical process OK

In skin the outer most layer that is what you see is nothing but a sheet of Keratin cells which have no Nucleus. Cell is dead if there is no nucleus. The Keratin on the surface of the skin is Soft Keratin that is why it is constantly flakes and replaced

But the Keratin of hair and nail are Hard Keratin and the pile on as suggested like the files in collector"s office and not shred. Similarly the Horns of animals also are of Harder variety of Keratin Since they are biologically dead there is pain or bleeding on cutting them But if you pull them from their root you will have pain bleeding etc since those parts are biologically active

More information available in many web site Try Stratum Corneum in any search engine like Google should be useful Jambu:blabla:

Nails and hair are considered dead structures.

Sir, I don't think so. Nails do not have pain receptor; so, we do not feel pain when clipping the nails. They do not have blood circulation eiither. However, nails grow from the bottom. That is, a layer grows at the bottom which is connected to tissues. That growth in turn pushes all the nail outwards. Nails do not grow at the tip, but at the bottom.

Cheers!

It is theoretically correct perhaps to say that the outermost layer of the skin is keratin. But practically, it will not be easy to isolate this layer except under a microscope. The outermost layer for all practical purposes is the epidermis which is the first to be affected even by a scratch.

The epidermis is the outer layer of skin. The thickness of the epidermis varies in different types of skin. It is the thinnest on the eyelids at .05 mm and the thickest on the palms and soles at 1.5 mm.

The epidermis contains 5 layers. From bottom to top the layers are named:

* stratum basale
* stratum spinosum
* stratum granulosum
* stratum licidum
* stratum corneum

The bottom layer, the stratum basale, has cells that are shaped like columns. In this layer the cells divide and push already formed cells into higher layers. As the cells move into the higher layers, they flatten and eventually die.

The top layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum, is made of dead, flat skin cells that shed about every 2 weeks.

Specialized Epidermal Cells
There are three types of specialized cells in the epidermis.

* The melanocyte produces pigment (melanin)
* The Langerhans' cell is the frontline defense of the immune system in the skin
* The Merkel's cell's function is not clearly known
