Today I was listening to the old-time Hindi song "Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon". Then I came across this fact about the song in Wikipedia:

"Kishore Kumar too wanted to sing 'Mere Naina Sawan Bhadho' that was initially written for Lata Mangeshkar. R. D. Burman agreed and wanted to record Kishore Kumar first. Kishore Kumar insisted Lata Mangeshkar record first. Though unacceptable at first, R. D. Burman yielded. Lata Mangeshkar recorded the song with great difficulty as it demanded great vocal strengths with long notes (reference needed). Kishore Kumar had his version recorded. Till date his version is more famous than Lata Mangeshkar's (reference?). He listened to the song for 7 days before recording (reference?). This Song Is Based On "Raga Shivranjani" This Song is considered as the most beautiful song sung by Kishore Da. We can feel the extreme variations and voice range in this song."

Your enthusiasm is contagious . I'm inclined to post some songs I like as well.

However, I would like to gently remind this topic is about 'interesting facts' only. Not a song thread. For example, in the 'mere naina' song, how first it was written only for Lata Mangeshkar to sing it, and how Kishore Kumar requested the director that he sing it too, and how his rendition became more popular than Lata Mangeshkar's.

I do not want to be a spoilsport. But I have to say this. I lost a very close and dear friend to liqour addiction. The lines

are so familiar to me. When a brilliant, lovely life just gets voluntarily into a mess and withers away just before your eyes leaving you just helpless is a horrible experience. Song is fast paced alright. Lekhin yeh aadat aisi hai ki woh bahuth kharab hi hai. Even in a song I would not like to be reminded of that.
