I have been reading the Book on India by the French Abbe Dubois
He was in India in the 18th Century and spent a lot of time in Vellore and nearby placs
Now I am extractig and interesting portion
" During my stay the consecration of the temple of the Goddess in Conjeevaram was done
The simhasanam of the hinddos from Sringeri came to preside over the ceremonies
The local Maharaja escorted him from Mysore
 
I never heard of him till you posted about him. What is the name of his book? what did he write about? I saw his book about Manners.

He wrote about his experiences here\In another book I read that he was called
Vellikara Sastrikal
