I have rea several times the book on Analysis of Rg Veda by the Indian Scholar
He says there were two types of Rishis
1 A group attached to particular (Royal) families
2 Annother group Mercenaries Who acted for those families who invited them and paid the highest
Some of the leading rishis of the Saptha Rishis are in this group
