By the way has anyone ever visited thulukka nachiyar sannathi in srirangam ?

Do you know there are two utsava murties and naivedyam also consists of items dear to thulukka nachiyar.(#10)

This is the only occasion in the year when Lord Ranganatha and Goddess Ranganayaki are seen together and hence this is a very sacred occasion. Belief is that a visit to the Srirangam temple on this day for the ‘Serthi Seva’ will relieve one of all sins.

Ramanuja’s compositions

It was on Panguni Uthiram, at the Serthi Mandapam, around 900 years ago that Ramanuja composed three great works of prose called ‘Gadhya Thraya.’ Swamy RaamAnujA was overwhelmed with the darsana soubhAgyam of the dhivya dampatis of Srirangam on one Panguni Uttira sErhti sevai and He peformed His SaraNAgathy at the sacred feet of the divine couple through His three immortal gadhyams:

Cultural influences of vaishnavism is more easily visible and one can appreciate them.

Geetha govindam verses and odissy dances of guru kelucharan mahapatra and samyugtha panigrahi with these verses set to music can be enchanting.

Manipuri dances also have dance sequences with krishna as the central character .

In film Bandini of Bimal roy , we had Gulzar penning verses showing remarkable understanding of vaishnav cult.

Listen to ' Mera gora rang laile , shyam rang dedei' in praise of krishna from this film on youtube and enjoy

Do you know that Ramanuja was born in sriperumbadur.

He was also considered to be a social reformer who opened the door of vaishnavism to other castes.

On 9th april, I prefer tirupati. Ghantasalas venkateswara mahatmiyam can be equally enchanting
 
Other castes are enamoured of brahmins due to sanskrit playing a large part in their worship.

Many would like to become part of this sophisticated group if possible thru marriage.

Upwardly mobile other castes would like to buy out and marry brahmins as it would elevate their status in their circle.

Christian angling for conversion would go out of the way to woo brahmins prepared for the same.

Only the poor other castes go to them for mostly monetary reasons.

Muslims though sounding militant are having a hard time managing their young girls who want to escape from the harsh diktats of mullahs and would love to marry boys from

other religions.

I suppose some churn in social structure is inevitable with IC/IR marriages.

Srimad Ranganarayana ramanuja jeer swami of srirangam.

If you want to know more such jeers indicate.

There is someone who is holy enough to send me these on my whats up.

I have posted these here for anyone curious enough to know about it..
 
Vaishnavite brahmins believe that vishnu is their only God and They worship only Him and his avathars.

Navagrahas take a back seat in their exclusive temples.

In this respect they are like abrahamic religions for their devotion to their God alone.

They relatively isolate themselves from other brahmins and are an exclusive small community.

This morning while driving from Egmore Station to my flat in OMR I was surprised to pass through Tiger Varadachari road still the same but Krishnamachari road is Krishna Road now!
 
How to cope in a vaishnavite brahmin family is a challenge faced by both male and female ?

A vaishnavite when he is alone outside behaves differently from the way when he is part of a family.

As part of the family , he exhibits all the fervour and frenzy associated with mobs .

Men get pestered to toe the line regarding sandhi and the like and women regarding madi. early bath and reciting religeous mumbo jumbo lighting kuthu villakku ,

putting kolam after sprinkling water and in come cases worser things . If anyone happens to inadvertantly brush against the devout -normally senior citizens, one can

expect choicest gaalis.

Together as a group, they ensure no other community person cast their evil eyes on any one of them.

Anyone in the group , not conforming is made miserable by all combining together.

I remember seeing a film 'yaaradi nee mohini 'depicting exactly how families behave when an outsider enters their brahmin home in a village.

In cities it is almost the same with minor changes.

Probably people are afraid of 'Tiger'!! :fear:

B T W, Doctor Rangachari Road in Mylapore has become Doctor Ranga Road, long back! :eek:hwell:
 
Vaishnavites should protest mutilation of names of well known figures.

Most have become passive to abuse more than warranted.

In delhi tamils are a vote bank.

Our tamil school has opened another branch of the school in slum colony in our neighbourhood.

Now our kids will get exposed to culture also of NBs in slum colonies in addition to brahmin culture in south delhi.

But what they do not realise is that govt has opened Cental school in the same slum area.

Parents of slum kids prefer their children to study in central school.

Interestingly , the woman who washes my toilet {she is SC] Gets preference over my maids children {they are south indian OBC}. They are finding it difficult to get

Caste certificated from tamilnadu.

My guru Dr. S. Ramanathan used to talk very high of his 'Tiger' guru!

Mysore Vasudevacharya was a great composer and is hailed by all the Carnatic musicians and rasikAs.

Now, enjoy his famous composition sung by the great M S amma.

Why one is Chari and the other chariyar? - When both are Iyengars!

We used to call our school English teacher Ththachari as Tiger!

I tried to google to find differences between chariyar and chari.

It responded saying it includes results for chariyar and chair difference.

This was followed by Seven different types of chairs by Spruce.Lol
 
Will some expert iyengar/iyer tell me the doctrinaire difference between vishisht advaita philosophy of ramanuja, dvaita of madhvacharya and advaitha philosophy of adi

sankara?
 
There is another group from Sourashtra - Rengachari in Madurai is common - like சுங்கடி saree specialist They are not Iyengars but are in OBC group!
 
May be Chari or chariyar is not a caste or subcaste tag of Iyengars Shankaracharyiar unlike Vasudevachariar in is never an Iyengar! may be any acharian is a Chari - aasari included
