In Democracy - People are the Rajan & Polticians are the Sevakan !!

In this age of Andh Bakths and their ridiculous shenanigans and idioticity, it is time to remind again the basic principles of democracy.

1. We the people are the Rajahs of democracy.
2. Politicians are our public Sevakas, they need to perform against the promises made before elections.
3. Rajahs never kneeled to Sevakas. So stop kneeling to these politicians .
4. We the People have the right to question them and fire them for non performance, negative performance, and junk performance.
5. Andh Bakths clearly love the govt and its leaders, but remember, the rest of us only love our families and don't care 2 hoots for any politician or party including opposition.
6. Don't get worked up reading this continuous criticism of the govt. Most of it is justified if not all. so be open to read all perspectives.
7. If you are still upset with us liberals, just open a thread and bash any and all opposition parties and leaders. I can assure you, we will read with immense amusement and even contribute to it.

LOL !!!

I sometimes think, in our first-past-the-post Democracy, the Delimitation Commission of India is the Rajan. They can effectively redraw constituencies and turn "sure win" constituencies of a party into a "doubtful ones" and vice versa.

Not necessarily. Infact it would be great if they keep doing this to disadvantage the parties.

This will force all parties to work with "all communities" and build communal harmony. So this will force both congress and BJP to move to the centre rather than be a "pro Hindu party" or " pro Muslim party" !!

Let's say a regional party is winning based on caste equations in a constituency. And we redraw or merge the constituency with another, and remove this caste advantage for the regional party, they will be forced to work with other castes and communities.

That is possible in a two or three party system like in the UK. But in India with so many coalitions, and caste based, religion based parties, it is easier for parties to form caste or religion "representative" winning coalitions, rather than doing the hard work of winning the trust of all communities.

True, but as a regional party, once they have
demonstrated their power, they are potential allies for major Central parties. For example, the regional party can make 30% caste votes, the central party can make 10% non-caste votes which together helps a winning combination, assuming that independents and very small parties garner over 20% votes. So, there is no incentive for the regional party to broaden it's reach. All its efforts will be to only remain undisputed leaders of that particular caste and curtail intra party tussles.

If you take the example of Kerala, the Muslim league has just about 7% over all votes but regularly wins UpTo 20 seats (one - seventh of the assembly strength) thanks to the alliance with Congress. Delimitation has been going on for decades, but this unique coaliton ensures a more than 40- 45% vote base, in each constituency in one particular district. Not too big, still enough to keep winning most of the time, and thus to pull more than its actual weight in terms of overall vote percentage.

In a democracy, distinction of Rajas and Sevaks can not exist since any Government under democracy is ideally supposed to be a participative by People and Representatives with equal responsibilities. But unfortunately the Human selfishness exploits and abuse the system for a personal cause. This can happen even in Raja's system. Thats why Kauravas were eliminated to protect Darma.May be such process is happening in Bharat??

Fair points. They key is that representatives have to deliver on their promises and most importantly, the people have to perform the responsibility of holding them accountable.

In the current environment, we have a large number of right wing supporters who are failing to do this. Instead of questioning the gobt, they are defending and fighting with the liberals, left, etc...an

And that is the singular failure of our democracy today!!
