When I was insulated in India, I had never heard of Dhanteras, then again we were relatively poor, and did not have many Gujarati friends.
When I came across rich Gujarati friends, I also learned about Dhanteras and choti Deewali.

India on Tuesday celebrated Dhanteras 2021 as many bought gold, silver and utensils to celebrate the ocassion. Dhanteras is celebrated on the 13th lunar day of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu calendar month of Kartik.
