When I was insulated in India, I had never heard of Dhanteras, then again we were relatively poor, and did not have many Gujarati friends.
When I came across rich Gujarati friends, I also learned about Dhanteras and choti Deewali.

I am amazed every day to find all these different customs and practices that Indians follow.
