Most people recite Devi Mahaatmyam in the morning hours. So, if it is not impossible for you, try to play the audio in the morning after your bath. Otherwise you may play the audio in the evening also, but evening is Indian evening i.e., just before and after sunset hours (Sandhyaa) - not 10PM or 11PM.
