The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday downplayed Minister of State for External Affairs General (Retd.) VK Singh's criticism of the media, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre is the guardian of all the wings of democracy.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said Twitter is a personal platform and the meaning of the tweets can be best deciphered by the person, who has tweeted. "We, as the government firmly, believe that we are the guardians of democracy of India and as such our famous slogan 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas' for democracy, all wings of democracy be it the legislature, the executive, the judiciary or the fourth pillar of media. All are extremely essential for a healthy democracy in this country, Patra told the media here."And so, we firmly believe and I reiterate 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas' for the common man of this country," he added.

General (Retd.) Singh had earlier on Tuesday stoked a new controversy with his criticism of the media and described it as 'presstitutes'.

The former army chief's remark was followed by his contentious statement that visiting the Pakistani High Commission was more exciting than conducting the rescue operations in Yemen.

Another minister with foot-in-the-mouth disease. Modi government has to spend more time rescuing its ministers and MP than governing. Fortunately they do not have to rescue their mouthpieces from on-line sites.

Bjp is doing the right thing in not interfering individual's tweets or observation. The media is twisting and lying, and their shenigans are exposed before the ink dries. In Singh's case, bjp response was, the tweeter a!one will say what he means. This was reported in the press as bjp orders the minister to explain his tweet. When the foreign secretary was asked whether he will comment, his answer was 'no'. Bazaru, nrewstrader, presstitute are standard terms for the media and journalists. Singh cannot be brow beaten by the media with agenda.

Amazing when social media is exposing the hypocracy and vileness of the media, some are interested in propping it up.

There was a report in Indian express that Rajasthan govt is saffronising text books, and will delete chapters on Akbar, newton and pythgoras. This was a totally false report and Indian exp is totally exposed.

Moody's upgrades India from stable to positive. And TOI reports - India no longer stable. That day is not far off when times will be hauled over the coal by its own foot in the mouth reporting. The group owes a lot to post indepedant congress for its survival and shielding.

VK Singh gave a written complaint on media, journalists and press council to the home ministry in 2013, and the upa govt did not act. In his recent press release, he has said that he is prepared to relodge the complaint.

PM Narendra Modi 'salutes' VK Singh, slams media for ignoring 'good work'

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was all praise for minister of state for external affairs Gen (retd) VK Singh, who has faced attack from a section of the media over his "presstitutes" remark, as he hit out at the media for not highlighting the "good works" of his government.

"I salute Gen (retd) VK Singh," Modi said as he hailed the "unprecedented" rescue mission led by the minister for evacuating Indians out of Yemen, for which external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, too, came in for praise from the Prime Minister.

Modi was critical of the media for ignoring Singh's work at a time when newspapers worldwide highlighted the Indian rescue mission.
