I look at the potential and the actual performance.
1.Why there is powercut year after year in TN?
The demand is always in excess of supply. If the state is rich enough why no forward looking plan is there to generate new capacities to cater to the galloping demand? The country laughs when I say we had a minister who was always addressed by commonman as Minvettu.....V....swamy.
The electricity Board is so impoverished that its credit rating is virtually negative. And there are politicians who flog even the dead horse by buying electricity from other states at dream prices-the cut makes it dreamy.
Why lignite and its potential is not fully utilized? Gujarat will soon take a march over TN in lignite based power production. wait and see.
2. Why every summer water becomes scarce in Chennai the show piece of TN? The numerous trucks transporting water mint money and the money goes into the pockets of politicians. These trucks are a menace on the road but Chennites make do with it and eke out a living weaving patterns through the crowded roads on their two wheelers-that is if they survive for the next day.
3. Why we have not cared to put up a hundred Desal plants on the long coast of TN? If water is a luxury to people, the State its govt. and its politicians have no right to crow about their achievements.
4. Why we have done nothing to develop other cities like Madurai, Salem, Trichy etc., to atleast half the level of Chennai? Is there not corruption at the root of this negligence? The cost of land on OMR and ECR in Chennai is in the clouds and politicians have enriched themselves. Most of the land is owned by them and their Chinna veedus.
5. The less said about the rickety transport system the better it would be.
6. Are you aware that the world bank financed underground drainage system in the city are delayed indefinitely because the pump houses have not been built even though the sewer lines have been laid out underground by digging the roads allover? Reason: there are politicians who want the last ounce of blood sucked by making money from their trucks which are used to remove solid and liquid sewerage waste from households.
Everywhere there is corruption. That makes life miserable for people.
All these have one common denominator namely corruption. Some one or other in powerful position is interested in maintaining things as they are because change will touch their pockets ultimately.
TN has the potential to become the heaven on earth. But corrupt politicians wont allow that. They want their private heavens on ECR and people do not deserve that.
7.I am not bothered about what happens in other states. There may be worse cases there. But that can not be a justification what is happening here. This is not competitive examination between participating states.
8. The poor workforce from Odisha, Bihar,MP and Andhra may be coming here in droves to work in the construction industry. That is not indicative of any great thing for the people here. We have potential which is much more than that. So our performance is just poor.
9. There are IT crowds landing on Chennai but it is just nothing when compared with what goes to Bangaluru. And why should it be so? Our potential is huge but not tapped. Except for TCS Tatas keep away carefully from this state. We were calling this state the Detroit of the East once but we did not lift our little finger when TATAs were looking for a location for their small car plant.
If there are people who have very pleasant experiences with the Government and its agencies, I would like them to come here and explain it. I would only be happy to know.
